  • has anyone noticed the vocal similarty with the beach boys?

  • Great song, great presentation! Carol Shelyne (Shindig dandcer/smart looking girl witth the big black glasses) is still in the biz as a casting director/actor/author.

  • Yeah, and if the Demokratz had been in control of congress, they'd have had helmets on those poor schmucks, even on stage; and OSHA would be crawlin' up someone's ass. lol

  • .....uh, that looks bad......back then people didn't have such automatic filthy minds.....but now we do.....looks really bad..lol

  • hahaha =)

  • Great tune. Good old days

  • I used to stand up on my Triumph 650cc Tiger (the one carb version, the Bonneville had two for that extra 10 mph at the top end) with my hands off the handle bars just like the girls are doing--the gyroscopic inertia held the bike upright, but if it went below a certain speed--then it would crash so don't try it unless you know how! For pros only!

  • Mea culpa, Fox--Carol Shelyne is the blonde with the glasses who looks like a sexy grad student.

  • This is what American bands were offering to contribute to the sound of top forty compare to British bands. Back then we were hearing from the Brits like The Hollys, The Zombies, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Searchers, Eric Burdon and the Animals, The Kinks, Herman Hermits, The Yardbirds, Dave Clark Five...and more...A much better sound. .

  • @cruisebumify I concur. This, however was a great tune.

  • only thing wrong with this picture is the guy needs to be sitting behind the chick he would get more pleasure that way.

  • The one with the glasses... does anyone know her name...? I remember this stuff... Shindig.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey, wasn't this the backing group in Beach Blanket Bingo?

  • Who is the blonde with the glasses? I wish she could have been my girlfriend!

  • I think that the misconception is that they were talking about the CA100 cub (the bike in the video). I swear that I've read that the inspiration for the song was a CL72 (250cc Scrambler) which would have just been imported around the time of this song. ("Climbs hills like a Matchless" seems an odd statement to make about the Cub). Not sure.

  • Good fun song and nice choreography from the girls; and good balance !

  • The 4th girl in the back wasn't as good at bouncing

  • Brian Wilson and Mike Love wrote the song and Brian cut a note for note version for The Hondels.

  • Hondells were awesome!!! the Beach Boys did it good too. this was a fun song, everybody new it. and those little red Honda 50 were fun to ride in Lahaina. hoh bra goofun!

  • You'd have to be Mother Teresa to not think what those girls are doing looks dirty.

  • so funny looking back at what was considered cool then

  • @anjilyn2 Believe me - it was not cool. It was lame.

  • At the time you could legally ride these small bikes at 14 years of age where I lived. No helmets, of course! I had two friends who had little Hondas, wanted one too, but my parents said NO WAY!

  • Yes there manager was members carl and brian wilsons father. They fired him and he tried getting back at them. It didnt work. Beah boys still went strong

  • I heard back in the day, the Beach Boys manager was let go. He then put together the Hondels as payback. That is why they sound similar to the the Beach Boys. Any info on this?

  • There wasn't "really" a group called THE HONDELLS - they were studio musicians who were just hired to record this song (a young Glen Campbell I believe was one of them) and then later the Record producers just attached a name to them - when the record became a success they literally hired 4 pleasant looking guys for stints like this. Several groups back then were "manufactured" in this manner. Record companies made dough, studio players got paid on the spot.

  • I recall this song when ever I ride my 1964 Honda CB160, what a great time to be young!

  • these bikes are the ones that deserve a song

  • Embarrassing!

  • good to see that the chick on the left has got her goggles on

  • @critchley3819 yea safety first! lol

  • @MrMike3865 yes but I dont like being told how to keep save our Governments are getting to far into how we should live.

  • When I first heard this Version, I thought It was the Beach Boys.

  • i love honda cub

  • @angelluis9585

    Me too.

  • skeet surfin!

  • Carole Shelyne = Smart looking chicks are cool & sexy!

  • Any of those machines would, in mint condition, today, command at least $5,000 dollars!.

  • The Hondells great group. I learned a lot of their chords on guitar from their beach movies with Annette Funicello.

  • the other blonde may be Teri Garr. She was a dancer on the show.

  • @speedskiff2 I believe you are correct. She shows up in several other Shindig clips - a couple of them with a short speaking part.

  • Worst fucking video ever.

  • These guys are so square!

  • @THX1205 It's hip to be square.

  • None of you guys ride......any gal that jumped ,bumped like that better be have a -BIG O - or she's getting off!!! Come on gals learn to BUDDY-RIDE!!!

  • And we never wore helmets!

  • Fantastica! great song

  • The video is a great compliment to a cool cruising song & yes, that's popular "Carole Shelyne," who is now a successful casting director, coach, writer & actress & goes under the name of "Carolyne Barry." Check out her acting lessons sessions on You-Tube, if your looking to venture into the profession.

  • @stp88661 Thanks for the info about Carolyne Barry, what a gal!

  • @Jemmcanna Thanks!

You wanna see a wonderfully re-edited video of a scene from the Patty Duke show, featuring the music of the Eggheads, & that energetic hip-swinging chick, "Carole Shelyne"? Simply enter: The Eggheads; Fooling Around. Enjoy!

  • I agree with McBad48: awful video but great song. First gear it's alright... and so on. Fantastic!

  • worst video ever for the best song ever

  • I like this version better

  • im just thinking honda must have asked the honda to make tis song

  • Nice clip and the girls even were singing backup...wish music was like this now...

  • First time I hear this song, but now I understand where Zucker-Abrahms-Zucker got their inspiration for Top Secret's theme song Skit Surfin'! ;) It's almost identical...

  • Sorry, I meant SKEET Surfin'...

  • When the girls say "It's alright" it looks as though they are assuring the boys that... that they can handle it. It isn't too much for them...

  • And people call Justin Bieber gay.

  • @MrBenotdismayed ... yep...

  • the guy in the back most b the last Hondell

  • Climb up on it and bounce, Carol Sheyne!

  • @hookalakah Who is Carol Sheyne?

  • James May likes this song :D

  • Sounds so much like the Beach Boys.

  • I wonder if they became the Shondles? and teamed up with Tommy James

  • There is NOTHING like the 60's music. Now the 70's had better music. But the 60's were so innocent. Ha right! they were all doing acid and sharing their girlfriends. Man i wish i wasnt under 10 during the 60's.

  • @LesSmith45 Mid '60s music WAS great, but the rest is a stereotype.....very few of us did acid and even fewer of us shared our girlfriends.

  • @CJurasin I dont buy the not very many doing acid and maybe the sharing of girlfriends were just in and around San Francisco. Then why do they call it the psycodelic 60's and the free love movement. That is like saying not very many people smoked pot in the 70's. Thats a bunch of crap. I grew up in that era and almost everyone smoked pot and did some kind of drugs. That is not a sterotype just a fact.

  • @LesSmith45 You don't have to "buy" anything.......I was THERE, while you were just a KID. And just because you or your crowd did drugs in the '70s does NOT mean everyone else did.... The newspapers and TV focused on few teenagers that did drugs, which of course "glorified" it to the rest......you younger kids thought it was "cool" and took it from there.

  • Chuck Girard is the lead singer...but when they came to our college in Longview, WA he was not on tour with them...must have been your father, Mr. Burns! Chuck became a wonderful leader in the Jesus Movement and a Christian singer...if I remember right. I talked to him on his message board a couple of times after he did a tour of churches including ours several years ago.

  • the man singin lead, Richard Burns, passed away yesterday.......he was my uncle and a great man! I will surely miss him, but his music will be here forever!

  • @hawk1866 - With Deepest Sympathy, RIP Richard Burns...Yes, his music will live on forever in the internet. Loved the Hondells sound.......

  • @hawk1866 - I didn't realize he had passed on. My condolences.

  • It would've worked if they were in front of a screen filmed moving on the highway, like the movies, with large huge fans blowing air for the effect like they're really riding on the highway. By the way, The Blonde girl with the glasses, What's her name again?. She's one of the dancers form the show.

  • AWW THEY ARE DESTROYNG THE LIL HONDAS LMAO

  • @GoldenShyt - Don't know about that. Those bikes were tough!

  • lmao i love honda

  • I for one dig the Beatles, Stones & Kinks! The era of this kind of music has a very special place in America's heart & music culture. It's influences can still be recognized even in some of todays music. Now it has found a new life in a new medium, "You Tube," the internet! The music of the mid-sixties was & is still fun to listen to. The girl in the horned rimmed glasses had moxy & she knew how to rock! Shit she was a Shindig dancer for christ sake! She just stood out! She was special!

  • Thank God for The Beatles/Stones/KInks who ran this kind'a crap right out of the American culture

  • Carol with the glasses was everybody's favorite.

  • 本田!ホンダ!HONDA!

  • this is too cute!!!!! love it..

  • Looks like they're having sex. She should be driving...

  • When I was a young lad, around six of seven, my brother and I and some neighbor kids formed a garage band and mouthed this song to the "delight" of our audience. Classic!

  • Being a true beach baby...Ive always loved this song and LOVE this cute video!

  • I had one of those white Honda 50s in the summer of '65.

  • hahahaha 5

  • I've always loved this song by the Hondells even though the Beach Boys had their own version. Can anybody at You-Tube come up with another tune (Vid) by the Hondells called "the Gasser?" It's from the AIP beach movie; Ski Party...That "Special looking Shindig girl with the horned rimmed glasses is now going by the name Carolyne Barry & she runs a successful Commercial/Theatre Arts Agency in LA.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG! "1st gear, it's alrght! 2nd gear,a lean right! 3rd gear, hang on tight!"

  • Carole Shelyne (shindig dancer) is the one on the left with the horn-rimed glasses. She didn't need them.

  • why does the song sound so much like the Beach Boys???

  • @johnnyponny4

Because Brian Wilson wrote it. He gave it to the Hondells first. When it became a hit, the Beach Boys recorded their own version.

  • @hzzlrp10 yeah I know. Rhetorical question.

  • @johnnyponny4

Glad to hear it. I guess my sarcasm detector wasn't working too well that day :)

    Awesome toon either way.

  • OMG my first b/f had a little Honda 50 like this. After 42 years we are seeing each other again at a class reunion. FREAK OUT!!

  • Just amazing, love it!!!! Dats real musiicc

  • Oh my GOOOOODDDD

todays videos are just shit compared to that !!!!

  • By the way what's the blonde girl with the glasses name? anybody

  • This is it!, this recording can not be duplicated by The Beachboys, perhaps there are those that have an ear for The Beachboys and would inturn disagree with me. Anway this is the version I grew up with and love. This video is new to me, never saw it on the boobtube, when it was a hit, the reason probably being that it was only aired on american tv and I'm here In Canada waiting for cablevision so I can get all those great programs I only hear about. like Bandstand.

  • Is it true that Brian sang the lead on this one with an alieneted voice? I can't believe it.

  • Brian wanted this song to be a single for the Beach Boys, but someone told him that this would be no hit. Brian became doubtful and backed down. So Gary Usher took the song and brought it into the top ten. I think it was one of Brian's worst mistakes. Another big mistake was the non-appearance on Monterey.

  • @kingofpecos was that someone murry the ahole?

  • @brabon1

Possible. Didn't Murry everything to undermine Brian's self-confidence? I can hear him: "Son, this is too weak, you have to revise it. You know it could be better. This is no single for the Beach Boys. This is not our standard. Think it over. You know I am right, son! You know that!" And Brian: "You are right. You're always right, Dad. I'll cancel it, but leave me alone, okay? Leave me alone! Man, sometimes I get really tired of your voice!" Murry: "Don't talk to me like that, son!"

  • @flybreath That was Mike Love when the Beach Boys did "Little Honda" on an episode of the Andy Williams Show in 1965. Due to licensing agreements and sponsorship constraints, Mike was forced to change the words "Little Honda" to "Little Cycle" and make lyric adjustments accordingly.

  • Sper geiler Song!

    Giagl

  • u know this vid made some real beat off blisters in 1965. :-P

  • This might look a bit dorky now, but it was pretty cool in my day!!

  • it's still cool!

  • @flybreath I believe it was Ed Sullivan

  • ha ha this is so random but hilarious!

  • Hang ot tight !!

  • A lot of dry humping going on there....think of the blueballs after that!

  • The Honda SuperCub is still in production, almost unchanged since 1958.. There are light bikes in many categories on the Japanese website, "Sport", "Leisure", etc.. But this one is a "Business" item...

  • Love this song...Now I want a Little Honda... does a hot guy come with it? :)

  • I Love this song when im driving my 1969 honda cb50 with my girl on the back!

  • there humping the hondas

  • How cool is this???? Thanks for posting it!

  • And thus began the story of Hondas domination of the WORLD of engine powered transportation..

    Cool video, flydguzmon.

  • i love the chick in the black glasses

  • Better turn on the light

So we can ride my Honda tonight

    Those were the days.

  • very cool song! thank you for a great video!

  • Love this song. This is of course one of Gary Ushers many studio creations. The Hondells were given a copy of The Beach Boys version of the song and told to learn it. They learned it, recorded it and had a top 10 hit with it. Very cool indeed.

  • I thought I was getting a little motorbike when I bought my Yamaha, but I didn't realize that a 400 doesn't quite qualify.

  • great song! honda 50cc?wow. ! I wanted one so badly.

  • ok the blonde in glasses

    was the hottest chick

every guy in la wanted her

  • @dogdave1 WHAT??? HOTTEST CHICK?? MAYBE YOU NEED GLASSES, PAL, SHE LOOKS LIKE GROUCHO FUCKING MARX

  • @dogdave1 I know, she looks like Krista Cupp on the NRA News minute

  • @dogdave1 That 'Hot Blonde With The Glasses' is CAROLE SHELYNE. She released a single on Liberty in 1965 which has been uploaded here at YouTube, entitled, 'Boys Do Make Passes At Girls Who Wear Glasses'.

  • those are real super cubs that they used on that show

  • Even the Hondas of today are built like Harleys.

  • this is just them lip syncing to the beach boys song. If it isnt please tell me casue this sounds too much like the beach boys.

  • it's not the Beach Boys.... it's a Brian Wilson original, but they got their version out first

  • BB version is on here too.Listen, they are different.

  • My little Honda 250 passed it's MOT today and I was singing this all the way home lol !

Can't believe this video's on here, Music TV's just not the same is it...

Love the bit where the blonde on the left loses her balance and almost falls off at

    1m 47 secs lol

    Absolutely Superb !

    Dr. Dave Watts

  • Makes you want to go buy an old Super Cub and cruise A1A

  • I think that is Teri Garr on the bike all the way to the right.

  • You are correct.

  • You're right. The blonde on the right is Terri Garr. And the brunette in the middle is Toni Basil, who sang the song "Mickey".

  • I did not know that about Toni. Have to check that out again. She also played one of the hookers in "Easy Rider".

  • nice song, better than The Beach Boys..........

The song was a big hit in Holland

    Grtz

  • the bouncing motion would have made more sense had the lads been BEHIND the lasses. eh kids?

  • Come on man have some class. This video came from a respectful period of clean pure fun.

  • @pancjay LOL That image you describe is now in my head

  • @pancjay strap ons

  • Ah, yes. Listening to this song makes me wanna buy my own Honda car :D

  • Buy a bike!

  • I love that song, I had my dad's Honda 50 for my first motorbike ride. What a classic just like this amazing track. Thanx for posting this.

  • Did you know that the Honda 50 could pull great wheelies by pushing the shifter down to 1st, but not letting it up, then rev the hell out of it and letting up on the shifter.

  • You could also crank her back with your arms while pinning it. Works on most scooters, and WOW's people to see somehting so slow with the front wheel up!!

  • honfa cub... most sold bike around the world. i'll get one eventually.

  • **honda

  • Now that SYM has introduced their version of the Honda Cub here in the 'States, called the Symba, I've developed an appreciation for this song. OK so it doesn't carry the Honda name, but for all intents and purposes it's virtually the same bike. For those who want to relive the joy of owning one, be sure to check out the SYM USA website for the nearest dealer. They come with a 4-speed semi-automatic transmission, a 101.4 cc engine, gets well over 100 mpg and are priced at just under $2,600.

  • Tops the Beach Boys version

  • Nice.

  • girl on the right is Teri Garr

  • I remember my older sister getting this record for Christmas in 1965, along with a record player.

I remember her dancing to it. What a great memory that was.

    We're in our 50's now...imagine that!

  • What's that they're sayin' at 1:04? Somethin' about "It takes the hills like a

MATTRESS? ('cause my Honda's built really lite). I've never seen a mattress cimb hills so I will need some clarification for this one.

  • "It climbs hills like a Matchless." Matchless was a British motorcycle marquee.

  • Matchless...it's a British motorcycle...

  • But "mattress" would be a WAY better lyric...

  • My Uncle has 5 of those up at his lake cottage..and they still run too!!! lol

  • Love this song, what great memories, thnk you for posting it

  • One of the guys was originally with The Castells who made Sacred & So This Is Love among other great tunes.

  • The Honda 50. It's what every 14 year old kid in 1965 wanted. Barely over $200 in price and it got about 200 miles a gallon of gas. True! The popular model was red with a white guard,

  • What nostalgia. Thanks so much for the post.

  • Them scooters ain't goin' nowhere fast, and them girls better hang on tight, but this one heckuva classic song! Awesome!

  • This is really a crazy video....takes me back to the old days. Thanks for posting

  • This track was written by Brian Wilson and cousin Mike Love (both of the Beachboys), and it was written as a "puff-up" for a bike they admired

  • Can someone please tell me whether this song was actually a jingle for the Honda Motorcycle? would love to hear what the truth is, thank you in advance.

  • Anyone know who the girl in the glasses is?

  • Carole Shelyne

    and she had perfect eyesight

  • @torrancecadesigner I believe you can find Carole Shelyne in an episode of Star Trek.
