Yep, being in the service isn't the same as it used to be. There are gang bangers in the Marines! So do you have any other suggestions for bringing about change in our government that ignores the Constitution? Seriously, the tea parties and similar things are to that end...
You have to admit, there is some irony lost on the people who physically dumped good tea...
For people who wanted to protest the wasteful use of resources, they sure wasted a whole lot of good tea this day....
It also was a symbolic gesture that represented their admiration of the revolutionaries. It would have made more sense to replicate the founders' actions, by identifying the problem, and devising a symbolic act pertinent to the current crisis.
It made sense for the boston tea party, b/c tea represented undue tax. All this symbolizes is, people wanting to identify with that principled revolutionary spirit... but lacking the insight and creative ability to come up with some symbolic act or platform that actually spoke to the problem or the times. I guess people wanted to express a sentiment, but it all came across more as people wanting to be something, not do something.
Great video! My family was there (and are in the vid) -- the estimates were over 5000 people. I was guessing between 5000-7000 too; it was huge! Makes it one of the biggest tea parties in the nation & (I believe) the biggest in SD

I heard the organizers say there are over 2500 people. They expected about 900.
