this game was sadistically hard I spent a whole year playing this when i was a kid and NEVER figured out how to get past that !@#!@$!@$! tower who knew all u had to do was grab on to the pole so the clouds wouldn't blow u away I sure didn't

I think the Nes version is a lot fast paced than the Genesis version, that is for me that the Nes one is way more difficult

@DaCMasta Try it on the NES version. THAT was a pain! I NEVER got past that stage. Ever. Had to use a Game genie to get to the end stage

@GundamBlueDestiny The response time isn't there with the nes d-pad. I've only done that with the nes advantage controller, the one with the thumb disk. I can press the d-pad in time but do the speed on the fastest tightest turns I always have registration problems.

Wow, what kind of Ending was that? At least on the NES version you get them going back up into the ship, but on this one, the game has no Ending.

stage 8 seems out of place...there is nothing special about that stage besides the boss fight at the end....

... and the challenge has definitely taken a nose-dive. It's unlikely for anyone to max out the score by the 3rd level on the NES version, since juggling the crows is harder and other crows don't wait on you to finish. The race portions are all faster and don't have bypassable projectiles, and all the bosses are tougher as well. Certain jumps appear to have been made slightly easier as well.

All in all, the GEN version appears to be a watered-down version of a great game.

I'm actually surprised at how faithful the GEN version is to the NES version. The NES version is definitely superior, though.

The GEN version came out 2 years later, and only managed to SLIGHTLY improve the graphics. The animations however are nowhere near as good as on the NES, nor are the sound effects or music. Despite what some other people are saying, based on these videos, the hit detection actually seems WORSE in this version as well (like with the shark).

final battle looks easy.. and lame ending. but at LEAST it was a better final battle than the SNES version...

still, the arcade BT is the best of the series... it has a better ending, but it's still anticlimactic...

i've completed this, just once, tried about more than 10 times i mean the final level as you have to play all over again to get to the final stage, only finished it once tho, but that was a big sigh of relief :)

I think you are only one of very few people who complete this "EXTREMELY!!!" HARD game. I couldn't beat third stage!

But I bet you would never complete NES version! But still you are the only person that I know that completed this HARDEST GAME OF ALL FREAKING TIME!

Hit detection is spot on in the Genesis, in the nes if you're movements aren't perfect you die.

yeah....never played the genesis version but i agree with you. i also cant explain but the nes version is one of the hardest games of my life still to this day i cant beat this game without cheating

I'm afraid I must agree with the GT countdown, BattleToads on NES is to me the hardest game in existence. Inhumanly impossible and truly frustratingly unfair. Ruined my childhood even though I love the game to death. Wow the Genesis version is so much damn easier. Music in both games is sick, as well as the graphics.

nes used an 8-bit sound chip from 83, Genesis was full 16 bit with much fuller sound allowing more channels.

u now actualy that game is`nt that hard , well i saw a gt countdown video which shows the most hardes games of all time , and battletoads was no1 , no1 !?!?!?!?!? c`mon i played much harder games on nes when i was a kid , like tmnt manhatan project , batman , ghost & ghouls , i finished batletoads for no than 2 3 weeks ;]] it`s very definetly hard , but it just matters how long you play it ;)at the end i even beat it without losing lives :P
