So, for that particular photo, that image of you belongs to the photographer, not you. The photographer owns the copyright authority for that image. That's how they make their living. A few years ago K-Mart was successfully sued by photographers for allowing customers to print copyrighted property. Retailers will not do duplicates without a release.
I do not download any music from the internet, I only copy it by recording the music in mp3 until the music ends, Then I edit the song taking off those long pause and shortening the music. I think that banning videos and muting audio on YouTube videos based on the content's copyright isn't fair. This is YouTube, and users can't make money off of these copyrighted videos. However, it IS a problem when people make profit off of something that isn't there's. Any other safe, acceptable, and free instance shouldn't be punishable. Thumbs up if you agree.

@MrAlbo420 I get a lot more royalties from web play than I EVER got from radio. ASCRAP and BMI are entirely in bed with the majors. They control who gets any meaningful airplay and thus who gets performance rights royalties. On top of that, the performance rights orgs shake down small venues and hurt small time artists by limiting the places they can play. ASCRAP and BMI are NOT unions.

When they the PROs (performance rights orgs) started, they claimed that having the radio stations log every play would be too cumbersome (even though virtually all commercial radio stations do it) so they came up with an extrapolation plan. Out of 12,000 stations, every two weeks they select 50 major market stations and log every play. continued...

continued... ASCRAP actually tapes the shows, BMI trusts the stations. Out of those 50 major market stations, they decide how to divide up the entire blanket licensing pot. So if you're played three times a day on the Sunday morning folk ghetto on every station in the country, the 7 cents play that you get as the writer, goes to Lady Gaga. Another 7 cents goes to the "publisher" of the song, generally a major label subsidiary. Copyright is hurting more than helping these days.

In regards to the fire analogy, personally I think substances like fire and the likes should all be free for the sake of sustaining a life. Fire is fire, no matter how you ignite it. But on the other hand if I invent tools to cause that fire to function in a certain way e.g. a oven, or stove. the oven, and stove that causes the functionality of the fire is my property, but the fire its self is not, because it's natural.
