When I saw the Pie play this live in december 1970 Frampton played the organ and Steve played guitar.
What a band they were. I saw them dozens of times with Peter Frampton and Clem Clempson and they were always great. Steve Marriott was one of the greatest singers I've ever seen. Such a pity he took an early bath.
Incredible find. Steve's voice carried everthing. Solo.. shoot... he'd be doing it now if he could.... saw him 3 X, but have marveled at the Fillmore LIVE voice, and this is raw and anything else available, until today. thanks for a favorite friend
That must be Marriott on guitar (def not Peter) so Frampton would be on keys.I like both solos the live and original.A solo doesn't have to be fast or flashy if it captures the essence of the song.I wouldn't change a note. Thanks for the rare live version and photos.

I'm pretty sure that Frampton is playing the organ. The guitar is Marriot's style. Choppy, hard hitting, power chords. Frampton's style is more melodic. I absolutely love the first 5 Pie albums. After Peter left, they just weren't the same. RIP Steve & Greg.

I have this 'bootleg'. Excellent recording, really gives some insight into the early A&M era for Humble Pie. Can't say I've seen these pics before though...great job!
On the first two LP's all the band members were playing different instruments, Steve and Pete both played the organ on different songs.
Peter was credited with the organ on "Desperation" while Steve was credited with it on "Stick shift", "As safe as", "A niftty little", "what you will", "Butermilk boy", no organ was credited on the second LP.
I have the original UK LP's
IMO Peter was playing the organ I say that because the guitar just doesnt sound like Peter it sounds like Steve.
Well,..um!..you are right because John Peel said at BBC that night .."sunday night show live" Peter at the organ and Steve at the guitar...anyway!!...Peter was so good (for me!!) only when was with Humble Pie!!..great post
OMFG!! HOW did all these amazing pics slip through my carefully-honed Frampton radar?! There's LOADS here I haven't seen before, THANK YOU SO MUCH for uploading this! *THUD*
yep merouda, I meant Life and Times of Steve Marriott (how many Majik Mijets went to Humble Pie??? ) although it would be great if there was another documentary about him. :)
Marriott was not the best guitarist in the bands early days but boy did he get better fast. watch some of the live stuff from later on in his career. He was good.
Hi. Thanks for uploading this gem. Not long after the album "Humble Pie" was released John Peel ran a series of the world's worst guitar solos on his radio show and right at the top was the solo from Live with Me. He attributed it to Marriott. I've been a fan of all things Marriott for over 40 years but sadly I have to agree with Peelie. By the way what's the source of this clip. I'm desperate to get hold of it now!
Andy what Peelie missed out on waht a great song this was....I saw 'em do this live at the Fillmore East opening up for Derek and the Dominos and it was a total eargasm and the audience gve them a standing ovation and it wasn't the closer....Which was very rare for that to happen there.
It sounds to me like it's Peter Frampton on guitar, Steve Marriott on keyboards. I saw Humble Pie a lot in their early days, Steve used to play keyboards on stage in early Humble Pie.
thanks for your comment. What you said has a lot of sense and yes I'm aware that Steve used to play keys on stage but on this bootleg after one more song the presenter presents ;-) the band and he says Steve on vocals and guitar, Peter on vocals, guitar and organ... hmmm. If I haven't heard this I would have said that it's Steve on organ too :-)
good slow down song. It's to carch your breath before Steve sucked it outta thewhole arena

I wonder what Steve and Percy (Plant) think of one another - also, the solo is fine - simple and to the point.
