The commercial got the facts wrong.

The Metroid in Metroid was killed.

Samus goes to the home planet of SR388 where the Metroids originate from (put there by the Chozo's to) to wipe them out under orders from the Galactic Federation.

Then she kills them all except for the Larva which is in Super Metroid.
