I was born in an Islamic country but Lord is still have marcy to me and I have the chance to know the lamb of God die for me and give me a new life to overcome my sin,he has taken all my burden and I have strenght to live
I have sung Messiah in choirs many times and am an atheist! I appreciate it for the mastery of the writing, and is something I never tire of. This applies to many other liturgical works which have an enduring quality regardless of ones beliefs or otherwise.
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30 KJV
Every time I hear this wonderful piece of music, it makes the world seem a grandly joyous place, it eternally renews afresh my faith in humanity, and fills me with wonder at the glory of the white race.
@ChristFavorsME I know we all have a right to our opinions, but please delete this or make an apology! I don't see how, if you are a Christian can say such things....Christ dies for ALL!! He loves ALL......he doesn't favor only you, not only the white race.....but everyone including you! this song should remind you of his power not the power of humanity, for we have no power without him! PLEASE APOLOGIZE TO THOSE WHOM YOU HAVE MOST LIKELY OFFENDED GREATLY!
@mjeppel Isn't it sad that a piece of music, so lovely and beautiful, is a backdrop for such vitriolic expression, from somebody who claims to be a Christian? It boggles the mind how a person can purport to love God, yet spew this kind of invective. A true Christian believes that Christ died for ALL, just as you say. He loves ALL. And ALL have free will to come to Him. God bless you for your response and insight. I can't imagine going through life with such anger and hate as he/she.
This was one of the hardest movements of Messiah to sing, with all of the quick movements. Quite honestly as hard as it is, it was probably the most fun.
Jesus said: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Gospel of Matthew chapter 11 verses 28 to 30.
@wabbbb Don't quote a Vatican translation my dearest friend. Please. Many a saint died for the ultimate King James translation of 1611 in the midst of Roman Catholic hypocrisy, and you ought to respect that and use ONLY the King James Version.
@thelamb777 well, only using the KJV would pose considerable difficulties for my many non-English speaking friends who also need to hear of God's love. There are many hundreds of Bible translations, and we can thank God that is the case. Otherwise we would all have to learn Greek and Hebrew to know about God....
@wabbbb Absolutely...That's why we have missionaries who translate UTILIZING the King James BIBLE into a plethora of different languages...But the only acceptable ENGLISH translation my friend is the King James historically...All others are fabricated by the Roman Catholic church, a murderous savage institution...Noooo see, God's word is PRESERVED PERFECTLY in the King James! We don't need to go to the originals because the Lord knew the English people needed a FLAWLESS Bible...
@thelamb777 Your post is unhinged enough to make me wonder if you're trolling. Anyway, I've never understood how a 17th century English translation is the be-all end-all of Greek and Hebrew 1st century (and earlier) collections of texts. England really has nothing to do with any events in the bible. Some people rave about the KJV but can never quite articulate what EXACTLY justifies it as the ONLY correct one. Funny how the only perfect Bible just happens to be in the language you speak.
I am a Catholic. As a friend of mine said as we were driving home after a performance of Messiah, "This is what we believe. It's humbling to hear how beautiful it really is."
Your title of the Chorus is wrong. The right title is - His Yoke Is Easy And His Burthen Is Light. Not what you have written Burthen as Burden is Light!
When you hear this performed live, it becomes a part of your soul. I am an atheist, and this may be one of the most incredible performances I've ever seen live. I have to say that the performance I saw in Chicago like 8 years ago was way better than this recording. It may just be that it was live though.
Well, it`s your opinion. I have my own opinion too. I have heard many versions and interpretations of that song, and I think I enjoy to hear this one. The tempo is the same as sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Chorus.
i mean it's fine....but i'd pick it up just a hair. not as fast as for unto us or and he shall purify....but just a little faster....i think the bass line in the orchestra should be bouncing....it seems legato....but that's just me.
haha hey you are so right and thanks! i mean...my friends tell me i'm the reincarnate version of handel if there is one...so i always "i know how it goes cuz i wrote it!!!" but i was reading what i wrote and i didnt like the way i came off. but thank you. ~Handelfan
I'm a big Handel fan too, I'm going to see the Messiah in a weeks time. I also love his Coronation Anthems. Handel is my most favoured of all the composers.
I just did a community performance of Messiah earlier this afternoon....it was delightful...we did several of the secelected choruses...and we had several wonderful soloist...i sang "the trumpet shall sound".
Thank you Jesus, thank you Lord, with you around, the yoke and burden are light and easy. PRAISE GOD

Why doesn't this have more views? More people would rather listen to crap like Katy Perry than this? :(

Why are people bashing this for the Christian theme? Just appreciate what a choral/orchestral masterpiece it is. Handel was absolutely astounding.

I sang this in choir last year! <3 The leap from a low note to a high Bb was challenging, though, but we managed to master it!

So in that case:
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30 KJV
Is what you REALLY meant.
