you'll find v4s are going out of fashion as video moves over to higher resolutions on DVI. go to vjforums and search for vga mixer. all the same, for video you can't beat a V4
hi, great video, + your modul8 tutorials are really helpful too!
got questions about the V4 before i go off + buy one... i have 2 mac laptops one running modul8 and one an openFrameworks project, 2 external video cameras for live input (1 ea lappie) - would adding the V4 to this system allow me to fade between two projectors on a live show - switching seamlessly from the openFramework interactive 'set' on one projector, to the modul8 'set' for the second half of the show in 2nd projector?
Some one's GOTTA help me out. Can the Edirol V-4 Video Mixer Interface (i just love saying the whole thing) is there a USB or FireWire OUTPUT on it? Meaning can I plug IT into a COMPUTER like for live Internet broadcasts and things like that? I need an answer pretty quickly, thanks so much!
A fine introduction to many a VJ's favorite toy! I use mine a lot, it's very well built and reliable. As you say here, it's often the center of my VJ set up, mixing multiple sources (some time back and forth quickly, with no lag!) I love the "luma fader" EFX.
intro:
You can do a show with just this and a camera (or even no camera by video feedback alone ;-) but usually you want at least one laptop or DVD player in there
Now there is the mighty V8 which I certainly wish I could afford. ;-)
digital effects are way over done. using a channel of mixer feedback can make nice wipes. really the best thing this unit does is mix, I'd stay away from the cheesy effects and wipes. feedback mirrored is kind of cool.
I agree that about using the V-4 to bring components together. I have used it for years and owned mine for a little more then 1 year. I mention this only because I actually learned some new things for your video. When I finally got one of my own I set-up some basic effects presets. I have to go back check what else I missed. THX
Thanks for the review! I would appreciate any additional information about setups and output options using computer vj programs in conjunction with the v-4. What tricks are YOU doing?

can you view all inputs in just one preview monitor? is that possible?
kierontan 3 years ago
yes, but only one at a time.
deepvisual 3 years ago
There's no function to view all inputs together?
kierontan 3 years ago
no, but to be honest, you wont find a mixer that does that.
for that you will need 4 monitors or a CCTV multiplexer
deepvisual 3 years ago
Can you connect multiple monitors to this switcher?
kierontan 3 years ago
How would you connect one monitor to each channels with only 1 out preview?

to be honest, the VJ programs I use are so powerful that the mixer tends to get used just for bringing all the different components together.
if you rely too much on gimmicks the shows all start to look the same
