Love ME series working on my character that I'm gonna import into ME3 on march 6 2012 :D and btw f*** you illusive man I'm gonna rape you with dual wield omniblades!!-:) and have Ash catfighting Miranda at the same time!!! -:D
but i dont see why we cant just enjoy the fact that this will still have at least some rpg elements even if theyre gonna be fewer than how it started out in ME1. i think its still more inspiring and captivating than pure shooters.
so i suppose its gonna continue down the path from an rpg with shooter elements to a sort of hybrid experiment to a predominantly shooter with rpg influence.
but im sure its still gonna be alot of fun to play.
@erbgorre Yep, and they are adding more RPG elements in ME3 then were in ME2. Weapon Mods make a comeback and the skill trees being longer and each power branching off into different versions more then once (adding more customization and choice of your abilities). All-in-all there will be more RPG stuff then in ME2, while keeping the streamlined combat (and likely improving on it) from ME2.
@thewerdnna Infact, I think this system of having more RPG eliments in the area of customization is better then the armor/weapon system in ME1. In ME1 all your weapons acted the same as all the others from that type, you just got ones that were better then those before. I ME2 you had each weapon act differently then the others, but only had 2-4 per weapon type to choose from. The bright side is you keep all your weapons from ME2 in ME3, and will likely have new ones as well, giving more choice.
i would like to give everyone who said "calm down its just a trailer" a thumbs up here. not willing to go through all the comments tho so just feel thumbed up ;)
im quite sure tho that all the ppl who want this to swing back on the rpg side some more again will be disappointed. the path these games have taken is clear and the majority of the broad audience wants action packed games so thats obviously where everything is heading.
For now there are cheap games, because casual games market is pretty big (and who don't like cash? :)). But there are some groups with very big ideas. Even if for such a small team, big project propably take years to became playable. Simpe example. On Amiga was strategy game called UFO:Enemy Unknown (or X-COM). Some big developer make a remake, with was almost sacrilege for orthodox fans. But now on Quake II engine group of amateurs make really good remake (very similar to original one) for free
@HaloRoxMySox47 i almost started laughing when i saw there was actually an option to leave those annoying jerks to die. they NEVER let you do that in videogames, thats when i knew Bioware was different
Mass Effect 3 is badass to the chain guys, look we got reapers, cerberus, creatures that created by reapers, and the ruthless cerberus agent Kai Leng to off against in this Epic Game to has risen to gaming World!!
@MKchampion17 Not really. Morrowind was nice, not perfect, but nice. Oblivion was simply sad (and after that Fallout 3 was just massacre in negative meaning), only modding community make it a bit interesting. RPG genre games are seriously too simply now, and in ME series (gloriously named as action-RPG) it is pretty easy to see.
@MKchampion17 Last good RPG i played: Arx Fatalis, Wizardy 8, game-legends like Torment or Baldurs Gate. From newer games - Dragone Age was really positive and promisable for future (DA2 was a disaster in comparison with first one...), Witcher (but this is my country game, and I read books, so this is something more than just a game for me), Risen was nice (real heir of Gothic 2) and I'm looking forward for Risen 2. I like ME serie - for epic storyline - but it is just a shooter for me.
@MKchampion17 Yep, just PC connected to TV if gaming. I heard that there is one really good action-RPG on consoles (I really don't remember name right now), but mostly i don't know console list of games.
And most of game You didn't heard propably because these are pretty old :)
@TheTechBrain Well to me the best RPG is Mass Effect...I've never really played many others besides Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I just love the gameplay and the story of Mass Effect.
@MKchampion17 And for me ME has nice storyline, but it fails in complexity of gameplay (same mistake Bioware made in DA2) - almost no skills (there was promisable system in ME, but it doesn't exist in ME2), no equipment, no really class diversity, small amount of location. ME serie make some great things for games, but Bioware is going to very bad road for me. And that's it. I'll play ME3, ofc, and I wish You great adventure too.
@MKchampion17 'ofc' - 'of course'. And about complexity - I totally need it. If I want great storyline I can see movie or better read book, from game I need something more. If ME advertised as a shooter with epic storyline and dialog choosing, or just a shooter with small RPG elements then I keep silence. But when cRPG gaming is downgrading to Action-RPG like ME then... well, I cannot agree with that :)
@MKchampion17 My expectations are not really so big. Eight years ago with silly slow machines (in compare to today PCs or consoles) game developers could create game for 200-300 hour of gameplay, with multiple races of main character, mulitple classes, with dozens of NPC, dialogs, equipment or skills (I remember that half of the 200 page manual to Baldur's Gate 2 was with skills and spells descriptions). In comparison f.e. ME looks like all power go to the graphic and advertisment.
@TheTechBrain All of your comments are not getting to my inbox. I didnt see this one. If there was a game that had that much stuff in it and looked great I would buy it, I just don't think that it will happen anytime soon. I don't have a problem with games not being that "complex" since I don't really ever play RPGs.
@MKchampion17 I'm sure that we won't get such a complex game with modern graphic. Not from game professional at least. Corporations choose different path, and their games are still good - like ordinary Hollywoods movies, but there is a lot of players that seeking for something more complex, like me.
So I believe in Indie games, small - almost home garage - teams of passionates.
I can understand that modern gameplaying need better graphic than eight years ago, but still, on today game's are working more menpower, better computers, experienced teams, and still games are shorter (I end ME2 first playing on normal in less than 20h), and more simplified. Game development is drastically unbalanced in that matter.
@TheTechBrain I asked what would a complex game be to you, not why games aren't long enough for you. What would a game need to be "complex"? Please explain in detail. I just want to know.
@MKchampion17 Let me quote myself: "200-300 hour of gameplay, with multiple races of main character, mulitple classes, with dozens of NPC, dialogs, equipment or skills". To this i can add: tactic fights with long term planning and squads with at least 4 members (today non-h'n's game standard, but I always hope that in future games let me have f.e. 10 squad members + main character). Sorry for general, but posts here are too short and our subject is for some good articles not just a discussion :)
I wish that they would give us the choice to stick with the thermal clips or go back to the weapons that just over heated and needed to cool down, which by the way had unlimited ammo.
Game idea, crossbreed Dissidia Duodecim and mass effect... Result: copyright lawsuits out the ass for a game that would rape. imagine Dissidia Duodecim controls with the masseffect universe.
I hope you can spec in something like omni blade + pistol fighting...Imperial Commissars, eat your hearts out. Or for that matter, if you could dual-wield omni-blades (0:51 he uses one left-handed, at 1:00, he's using it right-handed)
Unfortunately, some douchebag decided to screw us by using the thermal clip system in ME3. Ignoring everyone who quite rightly said that the ME1 weapons system made more sense...
@GR3B3N I've seen several websites saying it's confirmed that we get stupid thermal clips. Supposedly to avoid a bug with the engine that makes weapons overheat eternally... I have NEVER encountered such a bug so I have no idea what they're talking about. At the very least they should let us carry a decent amount of them. 11 shots with the Widow sniper rifle is just ridiculous.
With no Miranda and with no Elusive man, I may not give ME3 a chance.
[from the Chant of Bucks]
ME 1 had the best story but ME2 the best characters. Let's hope Bioware'll bring together both features in synchrony.
And I hope they'll make it shitty-pc friendly because my 360 RROD and I can't afford a PS3 [don't live in the States nor Europe]... but they won't. as chip manufacturers usually catapult their silicon with this mainstream prime tittles.
@BearFang666 Miranda died in my playthrough... ALTHOUGH, I did get a strange message saying that she's just refusing to send out a distress signal or something. IDK... Fuck her though, she's a whinny bitch anyway
hopefully theres an actual story, not just recruit 8 people with daddy issues and go on a mission unwillingly for a terrorist group that tried to kill you in ME1. Oh, and ACTUAL RPG ELEMENTS.
@PsychoSpiral but they were rushed on it, and art that is rushed is art that isn't living up to it's full potential. So no, do not blame Bioware for the foolishness of their publisher EA.
@jacobkosh i never said action free... the first mass effect had more customisation than the second one, and the combat was completely different, this seems similar to the mass effect 2 combat, which is more of a action shooter
feel like they're moving away from what I liked about the first 2 games. This might as well be Gears 4. And that british voiceover reminds me of Jason Statham, voices like that have no place in this franchise.
@Omaru1982 "voices like that have no place in this franchise.".. why? makes no sense. Of all the things to pick on.. you chose the voice of one guy? wow.. just wow. because in mass effect, there are no british soldiers fighting for EARTH, right? Let's hope we don't see any asians then. Would hate to break your immersion.
@Dan73J The worst thing is that no matter how bad the game is, fanboy will always defend it. And then, why should Bioware waste time and money to make good games when they can make bad ones and still get the same reception for all their games. We'll see if Bioware still like it's true fans, or want to sell their games to 4 years olds.
For all the people complaining about all the action in the trailer, what the hell do you want? A three minute video of someone playing tetris in the inventory? I think this trailer does what a trailer is supposed to do, at least for a first trailer.
@zakdagger An emotional expression on someone's face, subtlety, character, and drama beyond the barrel of a gun. I expected something a little more than "Boom. Boom. Bang. Bang." But, then again, that's what weighs down EA's pockets.
@schmoops3000 Nerds like you who can't do anything but whine about everything under the sun ought to get the shit violently and horrifically kicked out of you on national television. Then you'd finally have something real to sob about.
@ettuVeritas That's just updated omni-tool with new function - knife. Omni-sword is a name of an attack from cartoon Digimon, so don't call it like this. You're mixing good with bad.
@AuroraDynamics Dude shut up and stop comparing Halo and Gears to Mass Effect. That is what good game companies do. They watch and learn from other company's products and take what is good from them to improve upon their own projects. Its not sinking its rising to high heights. They improve upon their own mistakes and learn from others.
@Genshikenkun Good companies are coming up with original ideas instead of copying from another one. Right now ME3 seems to be a cheap copy cat under the title ME. Mass Effect 1 had a unique atmosphere. Now I saw everything (Gears of War, Halo the most) with the exception of the Mass Effect atmosphere. I know that some console kiddies love copy paste elements, but I hate them. And if you don't like the opinion of others, don't go between people.
Bioware says to reality: "We'll take it from here".

seems like a lot more of an action game than the RPG Mass effect one started with... but oh well still looks fantastic :P
Dragonfall750 9 months ago
@Dragonfall750 Yes, Mass Effect was completely sedate and action-free. /eyeroll
jacobkosh 8 months ago
@jacobkosh i never said action free... the first mass effect had more customisation than the second one, and the combat was completely different, this seems similar to the mass effect 2 combat, which is more of a action shooter

feel like they're moving away from what I liked about the first 2 games. This might as well be Gears 4. And that british voiceover reminds me of Jason Statham, voices like that have no place in this franchise.
Omaru1982 9 months ago

@CarbonToaster In one of the E3 playthroughs, the Normandy's arrival has a nearly identical track to the SR2's reveal in ME2 so... yes.

For all the people complaining about all the action in the trailer, what the hell do you want? A three minute video of someone playing tetris in the inventory? I think this trailer does what a trailer is supposed to do, at least for a first trailer.

@kulturrussin An indication that EA hasn't sucked the bloody life out of everything I loved about Mass Effect
schmoops3000 9 months ago
@schmoops3000 Such as?
zakdagger 8 months ago
@zakdagger An emotional expression on someone's face, subtlety, character, and drama beyond the barrel of a gun. I expected something a little more than "Boom. Boom. Bang. Bang." But, then again, that's what weighs down EA's pockets.
schmoops3000 8 months ago
@schmoops3000 Nerds like you who can't do anything but whine about everything under the sun ought to get the shit violently and horrifically kicked out of you on national television. Then you'd finally have something real to sob about.

@ettuVeritas That's just updated omni-tool with new function - knife. Omni-sword is a name of an attack from cartoon Digimon, so don't call it like this. You're mixing good with bad.

Brilliant. They've made a nice Gears of Halo from Mass Effect. I thought Bioware won't sink lower after Dragon Age. Well. I've mistaken before.
AuroraDynamics 9 months ago
@AuroraDynamics I meant Dragon Age 2.
AuroraDynamics 9 months ago
@AuroraDynamics Dude shut up and stop comparing Halo and Gears to Mass Effect. That is what good game companies do. They watch and learn from other company's products and take what is good from them to improve upon their own projects. Its not sinking its rising to high heights. They improve upon their own mistakes and learn from others.
Genshikenkun 9 months ago 2
@Genshikenkun Good companies are coming up with original ideas instead of copying from another one. Right now ME3 seems to be a cheap copy cat under the title ME. Mass Effect 1 had a unique atmosphere. Now I saw everything (Gears of War, Halo the most) with the exception of the Mass Effect atmosphere. I know that some console kiddies love copy paste elements, but I hate them. And if you don't like the opinion of others, don't go between people.
