Eden park is the only place where the maori verse is actually sung quite loudly by the crowd. Yet another reason why Auckland is more civilised than the rest of the country .... :-)
The first verse is: God of Nations at Thy feet, In the bonds of love we meet, Hear our voices, we entreat, God defend our free land. Guard Pacific's triple star From the shafts of strife and war, Make her praises heard afar, God defend New Zealand. Some of the verses can also be sung in Maori language. If you go to the NZ ministry for culture & heritage website, you can see the full lyrics and download some audio.

Do people NOT know the Maori part or they don't sing it to hear and enjoy!?
Cause seriuosly, the Maori part is MUCH better, though the whole anthem gives the shivers.

I'd say it's just hard to remember. That's not an excuse though. I'm an Australian-Asian and I'm making the effort to try and memorise it.

The Moari Version Is
E ihowa atua,(ihoa)
O nga iwi mayou ra,
Ata whokorongona,
Me aroha noa,
Kia hua ko te pai,
Kia tau to atawhai,
Manaakitia mai,
Aotearoa.
