yes it was communist but not bound to fail... if only yugoslavia split to a more open society (after titos death) where you could be proud of your heritage (croat, serb, slovene etc) and also split the republics in yugoslavia based on regions NOT nations. ex. croatia would be: Dalmacija, Slavonija, Istra etc. AND have a new capital (build a new one) and not have it centred around belgrade... you would have a great unified country... U filmu svira ’Lili Marlen’ u snimku ulaska nacista u Beograd 1941, a ovde je ponovo puštena jer je, prema ideji koju sugeriše film, smrću T. no one WILL EVER MAKE TO GATHER SO MANY POLITITIANS ON ONE PLACE TO COME TO THE FUNERAL OF ONE LEADER WHO WAS RESPECTED IN ENTIRE WORLD. TITO WAS POPULAR WORLD WIDE AND PEOPLE LOVED HIM!!!!!
@japkomienta, the song 'Lili Marleen' was a symbol of German occupation of Serbia and the destruction of Yugoslavia in 1941. The song is played in the film during Tito's funeral as an ill symbol of future destruction of Yugoslavia and wars that came afterwards.
the music is so ugly, cant they have chosen a better funeral song than this crap? I must tell, Kim Il sung has beaten this nationalist in funeral song!
It's not the funeral song, it's a clip from the film Underground. Read the description and previous comments, you are like 5th or 6th to make such mistake.
Tito wasn't a nationalist, he was a communist dictator.
Sorry, but he ruled in my country, so I know what I am talking about. Tito was the leader of Yugoslav Communist Party, and a communist since his youth and the leader of communist revolution against the nationalists. Communists are the greatest dictators since the ancient times, and there is no such thing as "national communist"... at least there wasn't in Yugoslavia.
well haa, so we are brothers arent we then. i am a serbian, and i think you should search more about (NaSo), nationalist communist cuz it kind of exist in western countries today, it is a kind of a new ideology that i learned a few months ago. and no tito was a nationalist cuz he opposed to join in cold war and seccede SFRY to USSR. he tried to create his own titoism and people treat him as a naso, this is not my idea of calling him like that but theirs. but sad why u call him dictat
also national communism doesnt exist in west at all but rather east, see Uzbekistan, turkmenistan, and kyrgistan along with the eurasian and pan russian movements which Putin to an extent is very much apart of.
jaa if he was one bit nationalist only the croats would have lovd him and everyone would have wanted him dead! everyone lovd him everywhere in the world even and he was most famous for this more than any other world leader ever! he was the most belovd leader this world has ever seen! tito was nothing close to being a nazi or nationalist. also westerners are not at all like nazis, if anything tho fascist would be the correct term! national communism did not exist till after the fall of CCCP!
Tito, when people spoke about him a few years ago I thought they were talking about a parrot. Why a parrot? anyhoot, I was 10 when he died. Some hate him, some love him. But he can't do eitheri, hes dead.
Please, no need for personal insults. Tito was a public person and a statesman, controversial also, and everyone is entitled to have an opinion about him, both fans and haters.

'The guy' who put Lily Marlene in the background is Emir Kusturica, this entire scene is from his film. :-/ And the symbolism is that Tito's death announced Yugoslavia's death too.
Lily Marlene is the song Nazis played in occupied Belgrade during WWII. Originally a love song popular with the Allies as well, but in Yugoslavia - a symbol of Nazi Germany.
Indeed...he really was loved by his people. There's another video in which they show a football stadium in which a match was about to take place, then they announce Tito's death...the whole stadium is silent except for the occasional cry of anguish..it's incredible...never seen anything like that before.
What is Obama now .. it was Marshal TITO ON .... took care for the people .. and today they are only selling state assets .. so that our successors do not have nothing!
Zdravo druze Tito, ponos tebi sam osta od pocetka rodena. Ja sam naucijo od tog covika dosta. Zalost sto je propala Jugoslavija opet radi facisma i gamadi. R.I.P Druze Tito
A hard comment.Triest is beautiful, also because mutlicultural.Dalmatia/Istria lost its Italian culutral component ... too bad...it would make them even more beatiful than they already are
The division of 1st Yugoslavia in WWII is presented with the Marlene sounds in the movie, and the Marlene song on Tito's funeral was but an overture of another war that was about to come and finally destroy Yugoslavia.
Tito is a best friend of Indonesian people. I can notice some world leaders in the video. 1:25 (Italian President Sandro Pertini), 1:28 (Rumanian Ceausescu), 1:29 (Jordanian King Hussein I), 1:31 (Syrian President Assad), 1:39 (UN Sec Gen Waldheim), 1:48 (US Vice President Mondale), 1:51 (Russien leader Brezhnev), 1:57 (Palestinian Chairman Arafat), 2:00 (West Germany's Helmut Schmidt) and 2:11 (British PM Thatcher).
Yes, that is Ceaucescu. As far as I can recognize them, these are the statesmen that can be seen: 1.26 Sandro Pertini, 1.28 Nicolae Ceaucescu, 1.29 King Hussein (Jordan), 1.30 ? (any help would be appreciated), 1.33 King Olav V (Norway), 1.38 Kurt Waldheim, 1.46 Walter Mondale (vice-president of the USA), 1.50 Brezhnev, 1.57 Arafat, 2.00 Helmut Schmidt, 2.11 Thatcher, 2.15 Hua Guofeng.
Most of Serbs (as well as Croats, Slovenes, Macedonians etc.) in the country literally adored and worshiped him; pro-royalist Serbs (Chetniks) who mostly all ended up in emigration after the War hated him.
Today, people are taught that he was a communist dictator who crippled Serbian state and nation. Still, older people who lived during his rule speak fondly of him, because he is associated with times of peace and prosperity in a big, strong and respected country.
yes it was communist but not bound to fail... if only yugoslavia split to a more open society (after titos death) where you could be proud of your heritage (croat, serb, slovene etc) and also split the republics in yugoslavia based on regions NOT nations. ex. croatia would be: Dalmacija, Slavonija, Istra etc. AND have a new capital (build a new one) and not have it centred around belgrade... you would have a great unified country... This wasn't a nazi song.
It's a German poem from the 1890's, used by the nazi´s of course.
But also recorded in english by Marlene Dietrich.
It's a song for the soldiers, no matter the band.

Nazi song in background. This guy who posted this video apparently wanted to provoke someone.
You don't even know who Tito was.
Shame on you.
MrUgljesha 2 years ago
'The guy' who put Lily Marlene in the background is Emir Kusturica, this entire scene is from his film. :-/ And the symbolism is that Tito's death announced Yugoslavia's death too.
Lily Marlene is the song Nazis played in occupied Belgrade during WWII. Originally a love song popular with the Allies as well, but in Yugoslavia - a symbol of Nazi Germany.

Indeed,i agree with u!

This is not really a Nazi Song, I tell you.
Even the british Soldiers from the 8 Army in Afrika got the radio from Beograd on for listening this Song,
Mir i Slobada !

gde stavi ovo fasisticko sranje u pozadinu, leba ti?
JNAsoldier 2 years ago

Indeed...he really was loved by his people. There's another video in which they show a football stadium in which a match was about to take place, then they announce Tito's death...the whole stadium is silent except for the occasional cry of anguish..it's incredible...never seen anything like that before.

Yugoslavia should reconsider becoming one nation. Member of Europe. US should not be allowed to play power games on our continent.

Or if you'd allow every nation to be independent, not everyone wants to live in Yugoslavia, it was quite awful actually.

voi siete sempre benvenuti come turisti.
thank you tito for cleaning the beatiful side of the adriatic from the colonizers and fascists.
the only thing to resent is leaving trieste. but we are quite happy with having dalmatia, istria and rijeka.
Mizzantrop 2 years ago
A hard comment.Triest is beautiful, also because mutlicultural.Dalmatia/Istria lost its Italian culutral component ... too bad...it would make them even more beatiful than they already are
RYPY78 2 years ago
pmarko1 2 years ago

Why Marlene's song?
saigonpunkid 3 years ago
A Yugo-nostalgic symbolism in Kusta's movie.
The division of 1st Yugoslavia in WWII is presented with the Marlene sounds in the movie, and the Marlene song on Tito's funeral was but an overture of another war that was about to come and finally destroy Yugoslavia.
arven979 3 years ago
thank you, that's really interesting.

Can anyone help collecting information about who's appearing in this video? Is that Ceaucescu at 1.28?
evilbu 3 years ago

Thank you!
Does anyone happen to what Serbs thought of Tito at that time (and now?) In Kusturica's film, the Serb partizans seem to like Tito very much.
evilbu 3 years ago
Most of Serbs (as well as Croats, Slovenes, Macedonians etc.) in the country literally adored and worshiped him; pro-royalist Serbs (Chetniks) who mostly all ended up in emigration after the War hated him.
Today, people are taught that he was a communist dictator who crippled Serbian state and nation. Still, older people who lived during his rule speak fondly of him, because he is associated with times of peace and prosperity in a big, strong and respected country.

Mao Ze Dong was there but it is not in the video. It was the largest funeral in history by visiting delegations
rootcaldera 3 years ago
Mao Zedong wasn't there. He died in 1976. The leader of China in 1980 was Hua Guofeng, and he attended the funeral.
By visiting delegations, it was the 2nd largest funeral in history. The largest was the funeral of Pope John Paul II in 2005.
