Thanks for the post friend! Fun and helpful :) I also happen to have a video up for my fellow newbies to online poker out there that basically goes over and shows you how to develop and EXTREMELY BASIC but mathematically sound strategy. This way you can hopefully keep your initial deposit longer than a month :) And consequently develop a better game by playing more! Anyway thanks again for the post! Here's wishing you the best of luck!

every tip was good besides the hand that he was ready to shov it in with... i mean come on, 8-7?! with that small stack obviously someone that has you beat will call, so your either flipping or are an underdog between 20-38%
My God! Stop posting videos. You know shit about poker. If the blinds are substantial there is more to it. People will defend their stacks with 7 4 os against AA if they are short stacked; they still have a 38% chance heads up. Anyone reading this wanting to steal DON"T BE PREDICTABLE. Steal from the high jack or earlier. EVERYONE KNOWS THE BUTTON WILL TRY TO STEAL!
P.S. If you insist on watching this nit's video. Let me know where you play poker :)
Why would anyone take advices from a fat guy that looks like a fag that probably never was in the WSOP that talks about being a world champion poker... Shit strategy too wtf. Anybody that follows this shit, I promise, will get owned hard.
not a great strategy really... basically people should just go all in with 78 so is it?
no.1 tip for short stack strategy that most people know, UTG raises are most effective and if pulled off effectively will cover you for the next time you're on BB. Any ace you should push and any pocket pair. Short stack is usually considered less than 10bb,. Depends how big the blinds are,if you're 2nd chips leader but have only 20bb, then shoving shouldnt be an option, only online that happens in turbo tho
In all the online "for fun" poker I have played, even with rewards on the line. Default bets, all in/double the blind looks suspicious and often gains alot of callers. A precisely calculated bet, ie 4 times the blind or double the pot, scares people into folding.
i'm a fan of betting half stack instead of all. it's implied that you're committed and will be all in after the flop no matter what drops. going all in looks weak and makes people wanna call.
this is a bit stupid, according to your game the small stack is in the small blind, you didnt mention how many players were on the table, lets assume 6 that means if you were to fold 87s youve got atleast 4 hands to pick somthing better up, just becuase your small stack doesnt mean you need to rush.
What a lame, low-budget, poorly produced load of shit this was. Contains no interesting or unique strategy. just the same old basic ABC poker information that exists in a million other formats (all of them incidentally better). The presenter is also an incoherent wreck who pauses far too much and doesn't even talk about the mathematics behind the decisions. Fucking idiot, frankly.
i did this strategy, i was in the DEALER position, i had 3k chips (it was in the second table on a tournament and i had the minimal stack lol) then i got a good hand: pocket nines, the blinds were 400/800 and everybody called 800, and i went all in with 3k chips and no one called =) we were 9 players and i got 6400 chips. nice strategy! =) i got lucky no one had good hand =)
you can still steal the blinds without going all in. if you raise it would be just about the same as going all in but without a risk of losing all your chips. please dont listen to this guy
yes but if you don't go all in with such a small stack you show weakness and are almost assured a call, which you ideally want everyone to think you have AA and fold. The all in will get you better results in this context in the long run I do believe.
You mean you want people to fold when you have Aces? That's absolutely pathetic.
You show strength by folding instead of going all in with a short stack, because your table image becomes tight, especially since you're under pressure to make a move. Idiot.
Wow you sure are good at jumping to stupid conclusions. Who said anything about wanting people to fold when I actually have Aces. We are talking about being blinded out and having to either double up by getting a playable hand, or taking the dead money in the pot (Antes) and the blinds to give you time to play tight. Did you even watch the video or are you too much of an idiot to actually read these comments in context? Typical UK no manners BS - UK WAS known for being polite - what happened?
Dayum, you're right, I didn't read your comment properly, for which I apologise! And yes, that was a stupid conclusion.
Just please don't call me an idiot and discuss my alleged 'no manners' after all the time I spend on here defending my intelligence and my countries' mannners (compared with the USA's manners). WP UL.
I want them to think just that. Only putting half the stack in looks weak - so they think I'm probably strong and really want to be called! It all just depends on who you are at the table with and what your reputation is.
not if your short stacked you can't. If you have to raise half your stack to make it a resonable size raise then you may as well go all in. You can't put half your stack in then fold to a reraise and you dont want to see a flop because you won't no what to do if u miss. so if your just going to call a reraise you may as well push because your more likely to take the pot down preflop.
yeah for anyone watching this i'd also say players need an "all in or fold preflop" mentality when they get to at least 10- BB's - some players go all in or fold under 20 but basically you can't get so low that you have to double up multiple times to get back in the game
oh, so simply becuase you had chips, you would raise every time?
heh, please dont be mistaken. I didnt say that I would wait for the hand. I simply meant that according to what the video said, it would be much easier to trap. As in, if you had Aces, you could just limp and wait for him to do the raising if he was in position.
Raising so much that you create an impression in your opponent that you raise with nothing is never a bad place to be. Just as long as you know when they no longer respect you.
In general though I push til they push back. It depends partly on the opponent, structure, stacks etc, but mathematically aggression is better in NL holdem cos it's so hard really to hit a hand.
If you're up against noob calling stations then maybe not though.
yip, definitly true. NL rewards aggression. Especially with less people at your table. But it does need to have some timing element, which the guy in the video completely missed!
The key to aggressive play is making you opponent fold the better hand, and call you when he has the worse hand. Obvious - yes. But much easier said then done.
But I do also agree when you say, giving your opponent the impression that you raise with nothing can have benefits. Very Gun Hanson'y play.
I was reading some comments on how to play flopped trips in early position, and Doyle Brunson said that you should be leading out, because your general style of play should be aggression. This hinged on one of the biggest rules of NL holdem, to make it very hard for your opponent to put you on a hand. If you are mainly betting your hands according to their strength, and checking allt he time when you miss, so easy for an opponent to adapt...
commishguy; this is all BASIC strategies that almost everybody above-average pokerplayer uses. TAG/slightly-Rock game early in following up with a slowly slide to the more Fishy LAG game.
Who is this guy and why should we listen to him? I've never seen him before. Just curious. Not saying he doesn't know anything. I'm just saying, before you take advice from a guy, who obviously thinks he knows something, they should give some background on what he's ever won that we should be listening to him.
you can do this only if you have mediocare cards.if you 3 , 2 off suit you fold because the guy with the more chips will possibly call thinking that you are bluffing.
yes, but there is another aspect of this: lets say you all in with 2 mediocre cards, lets say 8-7. if you get a call, his cards will 99% be bigger than 8 and 7. so the only way bigger cards can help you is if he got a smaller pair, that doesnt happen too often and he might fold it too, so if you go all-in without a big hand, you'd better hope to get some pairs out there.
Once you get down to less than ten big blinds you have an unplayable stack and have to make decisions that are somewhat out of the ordinary. The good thing is that you will be tend to be called by someone who has a mediocre holding themselves because a) they really want to get you out and b) because they assume that your decision could be based on a weak holding.
This is a very good tip, but doesn't this also depend on position? I mean if I'm under the gun, n have 9 times the big blind n have suited connectors, don't you think I should hold off til I'm big blind, or dealer?
it shouldnt really matter, your shoving it all in to steal blinds n antes. you already have good position to see what everyone else is doing anyway. this is all pre flop btw
for anyone who actually doesn't know this and plays poker take up golf as you will never ever be a good enough player i have played in many tournament granted only online completely different from face to face but still same principals apply and i have won many tournaments but if you are a newbie to poker then listen to the advice as there will be many times when you are low chip stack and blinds and antes come in handy

commishguy; this is all BASIC strategies that almost everybody above-average pokerplayer uses.

Good idea! Never realized that ante`s effects alot on players tactics! And for few questions in here, this depends alot of position!
Makeez1 3 years ago
This is a very good tip, but doesn't this also depend on position? I mean if I'm under the gun, n have 9 times the big blind n have suited connectors, don't you think I should hold off til I'm big blind, or dealer?
zalmi1 3 years ago
it shouldnt really matter, your shoving it all in to steal blinds n antes. you already have good position to see what everyone else is doing anyway. this is all pre flop btw

thats what i call aggressive playing, its a bad habbit, and easy to read, but yet very good strategy at times
GoodTimesWade 3 years ago
not bad...u gotta have at least a decent hand
BobbyN23 3 years ago
if you dont have the hand then the all-in move would probably be a no no in tourney style. position raises are a great play though

for anyone who actually doesn't know this and plays poker take up golf as you will never ever be a good enough player i have played in many tournament granted only online completely different from face to face but still same principals apply and i have won many tournaments but if you are a newbie to poker then listen to the advice as there will be many times when you are low chip stack and blinds and antes come in handy
