  • dont lean back when playing piano

  • I like this very much. This piece came out my favortie two movies.

  • Very odd seating position at the keyboard, focused facial expressions.....but first and foremost, beautiful interpretation and fantastic dynamics.I am impressed, well done.

  • WOW! Absolutely exquisite - expecially admire the lush pianissimo passages. His

    touch is fluid and lush.

  • I like this a lot. The tempo is just right for my taste.

  • Sitting like Gould...who cares...touch is fantastic!

  • very peculiar

  • dis is da weirdest rap i evar herd, butt i liek it :S

  • Very well done Mr Fray.

  • Une grande finesse de jeux, beaucoup de sensibilité, une excellente interprétation.

  • David:) Me like...

  • perfection?

  • @kinkajoes absolutely!

  • Wonderfully played! I don't know about you guys, but I think it's unprofessional to have a chair like that. But likewise, Great Pianist.

  • i've never seen a pianist sitting like that :D and the way he plays is very special but in the end counts the sound. wonderful music. plays really good

  • Very nice. Makes you want to dance! lol

  • BRENDEL SCHIFF LONQUICH ARE SOOOOOO MUCH BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is soooo beautiful.......thank you for playing !

  • So tender, and so crisp. I cannot believe he is playing it softer than it is usually played by amateurs. I am so pleased...

  • i don't think people realize how hard it is to play this with such a light touch. i wish i could do that...

  • Get over the self important critiques of his posture and rubato... This is a fantastic performance, I've listened to it hundreds of times and it's always fresh. This man is a great pianist.

  • @edhastie I totally agree with you :D

  • I have yet to see a discussion or review of David Fray that doesn't include comments about his behavior or appearance. That's significant -- it means he's sabotaging his own playing by being distracting. It's not the audience's fault. In concert or video, I prefer Perahia, Tharaud, or Blechacz for pure and focused -- and stunning -- performances.

  • this is a very interesting interpretation... its not like all the other ones, this one is a lot more subtle i think.

anyway... i made a recording on my own, and i would really like to get some feedback on it... i think its somwhere in the middle between the "usual" interpretations and this one. dear critics, please, visit my channel or just insert this into the url to get to the video: watch?v=CFMOqYqYtj4

thanks a lot! i really appreciate it

  • Such control!

  • Never mind that he is sitting at the piano like on a couch as long as he plays as beautiful as he does.

  • 1. He probably needs to support his back sometimes. It looks OK, though unusual.

    2. Why always compare Fray to Gould? They couldn´t be farther apart.

  • @metteholm75 Answer to No. 2 is No. 1. His behavior is identical to Gould's in many ways.

  • so weird how he sits in his chair...

  • Beautiful. Though he is no Gould.

  • Dynamics makes the music beautiful ... this guy knows (feels) a lot about it..:)

    Simply wonderful!

  • i love how hes just kinda leaning back in his chair.

  • Love this guy, just great.

  • Sensible, simple et beau! Bravo!!

    Luz

  • Incredible touch and expression.

  • A postura dele é horrivel!!!!! (Horrible posture)

  • @pepamendes1000

So? Gould played with an even more horrbile posture and Horowitz played with completely flat hands. There are geniuses to which the "normal" rules don't apply.

  • Subtly though he inflects his playing - there are altogether too many affectations for my taste. The good news, though, is that I attribute it to youth, which will, hopefully (with wise guidance) be outgrown. A talented guy, no doubt!

  • @lourak I agree totally. He plays gently, but still with more rubato and subito than I like. To me, Schubert is most beautiful when there is virtually no additional adornment.

  • I totally agree. He plays gently, but with more rubato and subito than I like. I think Schubert is most beautiful when there is almost no additional adornment.

  • nice

  • Love the way he's sitting down

  • look at his posture! maybe i should try practising with that posture.. his posture looks like horowitz's.

  • @pianista151 Made me think of Glenn Gould rather than Horowitz!

  • amazing simplicity!!

  • Ce n'est pas un mince exploit que de rendre sa simplicité (difficile !) à cette oeuvre entendue dix mille fois par ailleurs.

    Bravo.

  • One word

    fantastic...

  • Light and colors are more tin and "lighter" , then "Sound"..In this century of 21music making job needs a new way of doing ,a new description to Work on..So this brilliant person is saying SO I t h i n k..

  • I love how he plays it!!

  • It´s very nice.

  • This uncommon undulating serenity gives Schubert a new interpretative fresh air! Amazing! So simple and yet so difficult to find: Quoting yourself :"This is like being chez soi"

Finalement on trouve le nouveau musicien du Siècle! Tu es cet espèce rare de musique en toi-même!

  • i love you mAN c'est fantastique!

  • Fantastique pianiste ....

J'adore cette ritournelle. Toute simple, et qui transporte tant de choses.

  • it lasts only 2:12 and I was in heaven and back....

  • I really like his playing. So musical and sensitive.

  • I'd like to marry him so he could play this for me EVERY day.. :D

  • @BAKEDPIANIST YEAH!!! that would rock! but i have to admit... these new generation pianist are better than ever....

  • the steinway sounds amazing, especially with the light touch.. perfect mic'ing and natural reverb wherever that room is.. bravo

  • Simply ravishing, poetic, intimate! I am inspired - exquisite pianissimos create unparalleled tenderness.

  • Awesome, I found the sheet music for this!! :)

  • This makes me happy

  • @SertavisSaviPianist haha funny to see you to here ! :)

david fray is a really GOOD pianist ! ... I saw he whas comming to holland ..wish I could see myself :(

  • @Darkboy2525 yes, He is a good pianist; well why don't you go see him?

  • Beautiful recording. The Impromptus are also completely beautiful.

  • splendid!!!

David Fray is the one of the best french pianist!!

  • what a clown

  • Schöne Musik,schönes Spiel,schöner Pianist...

  • Sensitively played and with great subtlety, yet somehow his playing strikes me as being overly affected. I think it is due to his persistent "straggling" of the beat - but I'm not quite sure...

  • Fantastic!

  • I like the piano sound!!!!!!! What brand is that?

  • I LOVE THIS GUY, AMAZING PIANIST!

  • Really beautiful music!!!Love it : ))

  • "He gave a whole new meaning to the name & to the music...he gave a whole new meaning to my life...if that is not enough then what is? ...If only just the fact that he IS makes me feel so high!"

(Inspired by David Fray, 22.01.2010, Elena Fomina, the girl in the white hat!)

  • look at Horowit's moment much better..........

  • To match the high quality of David Fray's performance, an excellent piano. appropriate room with just the right amount of resonance, and careful recording process are needed. From this excerpt, it appears that all were met quite well.

  • A charming rendition that makes the piece seem more melancholy and pensive, rather than a children's march, which is how many others make it seem!

  • Very true.

  • @SsteinwayS Yours is one of the best analysis I've yet to read on YouTube. I couldn't have said it better. Hats off to you, my friend.

  • Aw thanks :) I'm currently playing some of Schubert's Impromptus and Moments musicaux, and I'm always amazed by Fray's sensitive and musical renditions...phenomenal!

  • That's amazing . someone gives this simple such a sweet voice. He does have unique sensibility!

  • . . .very beautiful . . .
