i want to start a project building a V8 from scratch, I really dont have any mechanic experience or any thing. Is it possible for the average guy to try to do this in their garage, and if so does anybody know any good guides, and where to start on a project like this for a beginner?
@DevinWhiteman You want to build a V8 from scratch, meaning that you want to create your own engine starting with nothing but a block of metal and aluminum? Then, I don't think it is possible. If you already have a V8 and you want to improve or overhaul the engine, then yes, it is possible. You probably still need someone with a mechanical background for support.
all this negative talk, and the next thing you know they open a company 10-15 years from now with the best engine design ever. I'm engine stupid myself but give them props for trying
lol how dumb.... I built a twin turbo 350 out of a junk yard lol the turbos were off a ford desil lol and that blue smoke is gas lol means its buring to much and choke ing out... well good luck
Sorry boys ive built plenty of turbo motors the first thing is that motor sounds like its loading up on fuel. If that is so turbo will spool and also open exh or not it should not sound like its running 5lbs boots well who the guy that made this vid lets ask him
There were a lot of problems, because this engine was build from parts from different engines / cars. The biggest problems were lubrication, matching the turbo to the engine and fuel control. The turbo not matched for this engine. This engine is demolished, so no adjustments can be made anymore.
I fact, yes, I installed it in a car, but it didn't work that well. This project of mine was funny, but not working properly. It may have worked, but I needed to spend way more time and money, which I didn't had at the time. So I stopped developing and started building jet-engines, which is going very good. (look at my other vids)
This is really cool !! Sounds cool too ! Good job. I was thinking about putting a small KKK turbo from an AUDI onto a Kohler tractor engine - just to see if I could make it run and sound impressive too. I am not sure if I want to use a draw thru or blow thru system, but I am looking for a dirt-bike type carb.
Well, no, that wasn't the problem, because although it sounded that way, the blow of valve didn't do anything. It was a stupid project trying to make things work, but it just didn't (to many parts from different engines). So I stopped the project and started building gasturbines, which is working great.
yea what happen? the fuel keeps shutting off or is your ting stalling from underpower? the crankshaft too heavy for it? or the flywheel? or possibly gravityy have somethign to do with it? haaha
The timing of the engine was controlled by the ignition computer, so there is nothing to do about it. I did check it actually and is was ok (about 10 degrees before upper dead point). The injection computer was injecting to much fuel.
But I already started a new project: Home build gasturbine (Jet engine, small version)

copleygsxr 3 years ago
my car with a straight pipe exhaust sounds like that at 23 pounds of vacume(-23 psi). Thats just what turbo sound like un-muffled

dude listen it is making boost at idle.....

yeah, once they get it dialed in , IMHO this engine will be EVIL

what engine is that? looks like its 2 cylinders
4x4Explorer 3 years ago
It was a mitsubishi 1.3l with 4 cylinders. (look at the amount of spark plug cables)
berndsen1984 3 years ago
dang.. that things tiny.. have you installed it into anything yet?

not enough fuel i would say? hmm homebuilt jet engines seems like a good idea
4x4Explorer 3 years ago
yes this sounds like its running dry. you need to get bigger injectors. try 350CC injectors and this thing will run like a champ guarantee'd

Well I was just noticing that. Compressor surge could be associated with the problem tho. eh
