the difference is that back in the day there would only be a handful of remakes of movies 30-50 years old. todays remakes suck because its mostly remakes of 5-15 year old movies which didn't need to be remade in the first place.

The Phantom Menace was when this started for me...everything is being remade or a new film comes out 20 years after the series finished, like Indy and the Crystal Skull. Or the proposed new Mad Max film...this shit sucks.

On another note, Highlander is an awesome film man, can't believe you'd evaded it all these years...so good, even if its cheesy as hell in places. The Queen soundtrack kicks ass and Clancy Brown is brilliant as the Kurgen. Classic film.

I agree. I can understand that films inspire films. But constant remakes is devaluing movies. Is it important to see a directors interpretation of a previous film....? No. Is it good to explore new ideas - yes! We live in a world with famine, war, terrorism, economic meltdown, diseases, political arguments and the constant threat of meteor strikes... couple that with the characters we all know in our every day lives, but Hollywood hasn't got the writers to create original screenplays. Crazy.

You see you do have to keep in mind aswell that you cant make to good of a movie or there will be about 10 sequals , I don't mind a good sequal dont get me wrong but when you need have a sequal crammed with special effects that contradict the original films story line . You end up with a pile of crap! I dont know what the world is coming to but i think this generation needs to supply a new Wes Craven or John Carpenter because something original has to be churned out
