I went to this drive in theater in 2006 great experience, its a shame how these kind of people destroy wonderful memories, i mess this even today, im now 29 in 2012 i went to this when i was 23, RIP mission 4. :'(
It's easier to destroy than to create, and that's all these hoodlums know how to do because of how easy it is. Give them a pile of blocks and tell them to stack them to form a cube, and they're lost!!!
@stdlgs14 I understand wat ur trying to say but I do think the destruction of developers is the worse for they would destroy historical archicteral structures, and render them entirely extinct. Spray paint is not as violent as a politco bull dozer or land grabs by city etc...... I do think though its wrong to harm these structures be it by tagers or developers or etcs.....
I was mad, when my dad told me they had a drive-in still left in SA but closed down few yrs back due to vandalism. I really wanted to go to one, being that I wasn't around when they were actively around.
good old memories there, stupid gangs and hoodlums had to go and mess it up for the good people. One thing is for sure, TAgging isnt Art! Clean up San antonio
That is sad to see the place broken and vandalized so many memories there now no one can enjoy it no more because of some stupid kids who went in there and broke the projectors and spray painted their stupid little gangs name.
wow. the last time i went here i was like 9 years old. hocus pocus was playing. i would sit on the roof of the car. the sound of the movie you were watching was herd through the car radio. such a shame they shut down.
the city of san antonio bought the mission and will restore the main screen to its orginal condition and a new libary will be built where the concesion stand is and the will transform the parking lot in front of the main screen to a grass and show movies on the screen from the new libary and citizens will be able to bring chair out to watch old movies
thats fuck up i like the outside movies it had some good times when i was a kids going there chillin with family and there nothing creepy about its just Theater locos
A relative shared with me that on an off season for Mission 4 Out Door Drive In Theater (idiotic, careless, failures of the system) wreaked havoc through out this theater to the extent that damages exceeded cost thus these doors never opened after. Now it will become a parking lot for recent development. I hope those folks come back and wreck havoc on that parking lot now.
I maybe wrong but I believe it shut down in the later part of 2008. I lived next to the mission theater until I was 5 years old... but I lived on that side of San Antonio for years. it's crazy to see how torn up the theater now is. That's part of the reason it was shut down the up keep was getting to expensive. The screens were tagged weekly and from what I understand it was expensive to re-cover/ paint.
Nuclear Asylum is not the name of the Theater itself, Mission 4 Out Door Drive In Theater is the name. I share the reference to the Nuclear Asylum as my home town San Antonio, is considering becoming one. These images are of depleted ones similar to other towns touched by nuclear outreach, Chernobyl and towns through out russia sharing similar images as the ones depicted in my city and in these segments of realities
well my nephew, his and i went there last night and went to the building that they showed the movies from. it was about ten o'clock when we went. its all boarded up now but we were able to up to the roof from the side stairs. when we got to the top there was a vent opening on the roof and a terrible smell came from inside the building. it smelt of piss and rotting dead. probably a dead animal or something. has anyone goe there lately? it was 10/18/09 when we went.
wow, I remember the last movie I saw at the Mission 4 Drive -in was Nacho Libre. I also remember going there as a teenager and the moive that sticks out the most was "Carrie" back in 1976. I remember my dad loading us up in the station wagon then he would stop by the Comet gas station on millitary drive and sumerset road, then pick up a box of fried chicken at Captain Jims then we would head out to the Mission 4. Man, I miss those day's.
I remember visiting here then while I lived here, with family. It had brought back so many memories of our favorite spot we use to park, our favorite screen we used to watch not matter what film was showing on it and the concessions. I always looked forward to the hot buttery popcorn, the ice cold dr pepper's, and the sour punch straws, and now all that history is gone. Mission 4 Out Door Drive In Theater Abandoned Closed San Antonio , Tx Ghosts Haunted Aslyum Tracks was a great film. Thank You!
This is an amazing film of the now extinct Mission 4 Outdoor Drive In , I remember I went there a few times to watch a movie, and I always loved that place, I always yearned to attend again, but the city of san antonio under phil hardberger knocked that down. Now who knows what they will put there. I hope not walmart mc d or target. Boys girls club is a good idea. let that remain a positive and memorable place for citizens of San Antonio. Good Work! Hope to see more from you!
Maybe we can rally support for proper use of the land. Libraries okay, Boys and Girls club? Not Ymca. What other uses can this land be used for? I hope there is public discussion on this very important issue that will effect a landmark in San Antonio. At this early stage we might still have a say so
That is correct. I actual went to a press conference there the day of demolition and they talked about the plans for the site, knocking everything except the historical main screen which is an historic landmark, designated for protection under historic laws. The plans I heard was a public library, that would still show occasional films on that historic screen. They also plan on developing land for mixed commercial. I hope Mcd's, Bk's Walmarts, Targets dont touch this sacred land near missions.
i used to love going there but some FUC*ING PEOPLE DESTROYED THE PLACE!!! but just the other day they said that they are going to fix the main screen and play movies on it,but the other stuff is torn down
Having documented many drive in theaters on my public access series "Outdoor Moovies", it's nice just to kick back and enjoy other human beings experiences. I absolutely love walking around old abandoned drive in theaters...oddly, just as much as going to an open one. Very cool video. Thanks for posting!
Regardless it doesnt stand any more. Did the city really keep that ol' facade of the theater the one that did say Mission 4 Theater , the one that any one would see when approaching the ticket booth. I did hear the city was going to keep that.
I live like a block away from it and i only saw one movie there out of my thirteen years living there. its not haunted. the place is called mission 4 outdoor theater
Haunted or not, san antonio has several places claimed to be haunted, hotels, tracks, aslyums, hospitals. I did feel this place stands amongst those, it being a historic part of this city and it being near several other supposed haunted locations.
Haunted or not its your preference.I ve seen several films here and i only knew of it as The Mission Drive In Theater, as do many other people.
What's the name of the place? Where is this by the way? Thanks for posting, I really enjoyed this video, but its also sad to see these places going to ruin. I have two videos about drive-ins, please check it out.

Very cool footage. I'm always amazed at the different kinds of snack bars there were, and are. I don't quite understand the Buy song option.
