I'm simply dumbfounded by all the people here bitching and moaning about Moyers. The job of an interviewer is to bring out from the subject an understanding of THEIR knowledge and beliefs...not to outsmart them or just agree with everything they say....or march all over them like O'Reily. Moyers did an excellent job and one of the reasons why this is such a great example of Dennett's speaking is due to his interviewing techniques.

Jesus guys! You don't have to hate everyone that says "God".

Bill Moyers sounds smart, but he just mastered the art of communication better than Sarah Palin. Still though, he has her same kind of brain. I live in Mormon country, and it infects the folks around here the same way. They play make believe about a few key things, hiding their delusions under a visage of sensibility, but in reality, their world view is essentially naive, foolish, and built on some fatally erroneous assumptions.

i have seen dan dennett in a lecture. and i have been very moved by his very grounded text of reason and no shit ism. its a grounded philosophy of reality and i hope as a young man i wish to ascertain this methodology in full.

Man, the thing to learn from this interview is how to deal with guys like Moyers. At least in the 'how to have a civil discourse'

A bit much on the concessions, but if it's the truth it's the truth.

Other than that, I still shiver at the thought of people who chose to live their lives in that religious blanket. It truly can pervert the critical thinking faculties.

Bill Moyers isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Everytime he interviews someone he always, always misunderstands what the person is saying even though as a viewer, i completely understand what is being said. He always looks and acts so bewildered! i'm amazed he still is asked to do interviews.
