Unfortunately, gender inequality has become partially imbeded in chinese culture due to confucianism. Every school of thought has a dark side, but one of the central pillars of this school is respect, given whether it is deserved or not. This sort of respect is also expected to pass from governed to rulers. I think this is rather a dark and barbaric idea.
I think part of Confucianism included the idea of the Mandate of Heaven and Earth, that a ruler earns respect through just rule. If this what they got from Confucianism, they got it backwards. The respect is to be given, but natural human tendencies will contravene this if things become unbearable. Perhaps Mencius helped to solidify this, I'm not sure, but I assume whenever people talk about Confucius they include Mencius, since he was instrumental in the later interpretations of Confucius.

Let us get some perspective on this problem.
Land is fought over throughout history & finally one dominant group colonises a country or a region: look at North & South America, Australasia, etc. In these cases the Whites did actually have a systematic policy of massacring the natives. In Sinkiang & Tibet, China has brought medical advances, technologies & created work for all. The Chinese deserve praise for what they are doing! There has been so much ethnic and cultural interchange within Tibet that even now, the Dalai Lama claims he and his people really do not wish to be independent, they merely want their freedom of religion and more autonomy. Unfortunately, gender inequality has become partially imbeded in chinese culture due to confucianism. Every school of thought has a dark side, but one of the central pillars of this school is respect, given whether it is deserved or not. This sort of respect is also expected to pass from governed to rulers. I think this is rather a dark and barbaric idea.

I think part of Confucianism included the idea of the Mandate of Heaven and Earth, that a ruler earns respect through just rule. If this what they got from Confucianism, they got it backwards. The respect is to be given, but natural human tendencies will contravene this if things become unbearable. Perhaps Mencius helped to solidify this, I'm not sure, but I assume whenever people talk about Confucius they include Mencius, since he was instrumental in the later interpretations of Confucius.

It's not that easy man. China's pretty influential themselves on those matters. In fact, tellingly enough the U.S. basically had to bribe China to get them to play along in supporting the Iraq sanctions in 1991, and China stops the U.S. and other countries from putting heavy sanctions on the Sudan. Much of the time the whole sanction thing is a modern-day big power game to serve each other's interests at the expense of smaller countries.

I'm not saying it's ok because it's on smaller scale, but the current chinese government does execute far fewer of it's own people than stalin did. When you compare how many millions hitler and stalin killed in a year, to the thousands that are killed by the chinese government, the chinese government are the lesser of two evils. I only said that because hitler's cause was racial purification and stalin's was almost entirely about brainwashing and authoritarianism.

oh you mean the terror suspects, many of which were still waiting to receive a trial to prove they were involved in terrorism and were beaten and abused in their cells. Even mass murderers get better treatment than that, how is that fair?
And if there was any solid evidence they were terrorists, don't you think they would've been sent to death row instead?

I believ if the majority in China start asking for their rights simultaneously, the communist government will have to somehow loosen their grip and listen to the people's voice. But as you can see now, most people are busy working, taking care of themselves, improve their lives and their children.so my guess is when people become well off enough then they will start thinking about politics. and if China retaliates, alot of nice and peace-loving american will also die for no reasons. We need to look at different alternatives. Like at the moment, China is still poor, the people are still not aware of their rights, people are not educated, hence they can be easily abused by the high authority. But as China develops, people have jobs, earn money, get educated, become more aware, they can start demanding for their rights slowly (happen from inside out).

You don't get what I'm saying, the fact is that there are many temples and churches in china, they don't suppress, people can believe if what they want, no one judges, in fact growing up, I've been to many temples and churches even though communists were all around, and I didn;t say my idea of democracy is religion, I'm simply sayin that democratic activists in china have a diffrent idea of democracy than us here in Canada, they believe in not taking meds and revolving back to the ancient times

I am a Chinese living in the Philippines, from the way you talk I can see that you really hate communism and I understand it and I do too, but nuking China will not just simply rescue the Chinese people from communism but that can potentially start a WW3 and kill a lot of innocent people and waste world's resources. I hope you have a second thought about this. There are many other ways to help Chinese people out of communism, war is unnecessary.

Obviously, the Brits aren't doing anything for Burma. As a Burmese American college kid who grew up in Burma, I think other countries are not doing anything about the dictatorship in Burma because they want to set Burma's junta as an example of the fight between the good vs the evil in the world. What really frustrate me about the politics is that the other countries have all the resources to help but they aren't doing any because there's no self-serving purpose out of Burma.

You have a point. Why isn't the world doing anything on the situation in Zimbabwe or Burma? Because Burma and Zimbabwe are poor in natural resources and it would take millions to rebuild the economy. If an oil rich country (you know which) was in political turmoil, I wouldn't be surprised if a few G8 countries immediately took action.
