  • this girl is hot!!!

  • book is always different compare the movie, but still i love it book and movie

  • if youre after quality casted and directed films: watch the swedish one

If you have trouble reading or just lazy and have some un-explainable (probs ethnocentrism) preference for american thriller directors then the american version is for you :)

  • What kind of hurts these reviews is that Grace will only interview around four people. Three of them can give it a solid 8 or 9, but if one person is disappointed and gives it a 5 or below it offsets the whole thing. TGWTDT is easily a 9 in my book, plus the cinemascore grade was A, so the feedback from this video is misleading

  • @dollarsaurus01 they have to show all sides of the spectrum :/ I also thought this was an outstanding movie. top notch performances by Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara.

  • the guy with the black hat thinks his opinion matters more than what it actually does

  • that dude with the black hat and the jacket is a total douche bag!

  • this movie was amazing!

  • Grace you say dumb things the Swedish movies would not be a have been huge success in American no matter what.

  • The foreign movies didn't do bad in america because people don't like reading subtitles, but because they didn't get wide releases, nor was there any real marketing outside of big cities like New York and Los Angeles. But they also weren't very good adaptations of the book and the casting was horrible.

  • This movie was fantastic.

  • watch online at leakedmovies . biz

  • voice goings through me

  • Dude, I'm 13 and I went to see this movie on a DATE xD it was really good though

  • @tsphilly98 That theater should be shut down for letting underage kids watch R rated movies.

  • @TobeyStarburst Oh c'mon, that's a bit harsh, we had both read the book twice and saw the Swedish one anyway, we knew what we were in for.

  • @tsphilly98 Doesn't matter them letting you watch this movie was illegal.

  • @TobeyStarburst Um, well, I'm not sure where you're from but here kids under 17 are allowed to see R rated movies with adult supervision, our parents sat a few rows in front of us.

  • I think it is because American Movie theaters don't give foreign films a chance. When the original foreign film came out there were not that many showings of it. I can't see the Artist because none of the theaters in my area have it. I have to wait for the cheap theater to get it or until it comes out on dvd.

  • Great movie. Some changes from the original foreign film but it is still awesome.

  • The guy who said he read the book is a dick. The movie is very easy to follow

  • 2:29 I wanted to PUNCH that dude. I have no clue how you could walk out of the movie thinking that it was 'horribly disappointing'. I can't wait to go watch it again.

  • @TheShikaidou I agree, I just saw this yesterday and I thought it was phenomenal.

  • The Swedish Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is one of my favorite films. I watched it English dubbed and subbed.

I have yet to see the American version but I plan to within the upcoming month! ^^

  • 8/10

Solid film with some uncomfortable moments. Slow to start but I got more interested once it shifted gears midway through the film.

Been Fincher heavy this week with Social Network on dvd earlier. Give that an 8/10 too. Fight Club still my fav 10/10.

  • I loved this movie! I went to see it 'cold', so to speak, and I was amazed at how brilliant it was! It's dark, shocking, fantastically acted and beautifully presented, and i highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about films.

  • i put subtitles on normal movies

  • @patrifiedy2k Once you start watching a subtitled movie your brain takes over anyway. There have been times where I've forgotten I saw a movie in another language. It doesn't take any effort, the brain adapts to new stimuli that's all.

  • Suddenly people are being judged for not wanting to read movies. Its called a recreational experience. If people want to sit back and have the movie thrust into their eyes and ears because it requires less effort than reading, they definitely should. Its called relaxation and enjoyment. It also takes more effort and brainpower to do sudoku while watching a movie, but it sure removes you from the world the movies has set up for you.

  • The American version was genuinely better. Seriously, I'd advise anyone to watch both back-to-back.

  • @Jonmad17 I just did that, and I liked the American version better.

  • I preferred the Swedish one, but only just. It was a great movie nonetheless.

Shame that people are against subtitles and don't see the original before seeing this one.

Same with 'Let The Right One In'.

  • im always confused for a second when i don't see the green screen spill on her hair in the audience talk segment

  • Comment removed

  • Bless that old man.

  • But this movies getting a lot of hype so it must be really good, might go check it out with my boyfriend =)

  • The swedish film flopped because people are use to seeing and hearing English movies here in America, Its the same way in other countries probably. Plus watching and reading subtitles can be a little hard for some people, if you dont read the subs then you dont know whats going, if you can see the screen you still dont know whats going on. I do prefer English but IF its a show or Anime i REALLY want to see i will sit there watch and read subs.

  • Swedish version was better, atleast than the few clips I've seen

  • what is that dude talking about "out of order"? There was nothing out of order in the entire film, I've read the book 3 times. Honestly, I thought there was something about this one that made it better than the Swedish one. Both were great, and call me blasphemous but I thought Rooney Mara did a better job than Rapace.

  • I don't really get why the english title for both the american version and the original swedish version is called "The girl with the dragon tatoo".

Why couldn't they just have called it "Men who hates women" or something that's close to it??

  • @missboldsen Just think about it, without any knowledge what so ever about the story, does the title "Men who hates women" really come across that well?

  • @akatsuki065 Maybe it's just me, but i don't see the problem with that title.

Most other languages the book (and the movie) has been translated to has a title that resemble the original.

  • Did the cast & crew sign for the entire trilogy? Or are they going to wait to see how this plays out in the US before commiting to another 2 films?

  • The Swedish version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (or: Men Who Hate Women) is the best thriller I've seen since The Silence of the Lambs. It is so good, that a remake seems like a complete insult

  • Saw this a few nights ago. i'd give it an 8/10. i had to take 2 point off because i really wish they had not shown the rape scene. I think the film would have been better off if they had cut away instead of showing it too the viewer, which is something i always think is pretty tasteless.

  • did you even bother to watch the movie? More bullshit reporting, didn't you learn anything from the trilogy?

  • I wish I knew how graphic this movie was going to be going into it. I knew it was dark but... damn.

  • That was a good intro Grace. I was nodding my head the entire time.

  • JEES GUYS quit saying the original is better. This is simply just another adaptation of the book. It is creative interpretation. They filmed this in english for the same reason the books were adapted to english.

  • THe original is better.

  • 1. I love subtitled movies.

    2. I saw the Swedish movies last year.

    3. I saw the American movie today.

    4. American version > Swedish version.

  • Fuck subtitled movies.

  • The swedish films are excellent and so is this one but seriously america, does it really matter what language they are speaking or if it doesn't have any famous american actors for you to see it?

  • I used to avoid movies with subtitles, I DIDN'T take an arrow to the knee but I starting watching my anime in Japanese w/ English subtitles. I like it like that because you can follow what they're saying better.

If I had avoided foreign films like most people, I would've missed out on Ip Man.

  • Excuse me why I log onto netflix

  • I prefer the Swedish version. Those movies match exactly with the image I had in mind when I read the books.

  • These people besides the couple are stupid. This movie was masterful.

  • So, by the sound of it, if you go in without having seen the other film or maybe even without reading the book, you'll probably like this version. That's about what I expected.

  • I never want to see this copy. Simply because the original movie was so good. I don't want it to ruin my impression.

  • this channel needs a new presenter

  • I hope this American version is as good as the original foriegn film.

  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo...the feel bad movie of the Christmas season

  • i have to say this was one of the better interviews you have done, since people actually explained what worked in this film and what didn't

  • That one guy who didn't like it doesn't make me any less excited to see this. In Fincher I trust...

  • im americant hurr durr, i ony watch americunt movies hurr duurrrr

  • @new9876 Don't be a hater.

  • @new9876 watch grace's other video listing the top ten movies of 2011. while it's true that americans only watch american films, it appears the rest of the world has followed suit

  • @new9876 me too!

  • @new9876 Lol :==)

  • @new9876 douchebag

  • Stieg Larsson looks like Stephen King. Hard to believe that only a year ago Rooney Mara was in Nightmare On Elm Street!

  • It makes me sad when I'm talking to someone about movies and I hear them say; "No, I don't watch movies with subtitles." They truly don't know what they're missing sometimes. I've seen a lot of movies that I loved, that were subtitled. All I can say is, give them a chance. :)

  • I don't feel Mara is right as Lisbeth :S

  • Grace, can you please explain this to me? Why can't americans just watch the movies we make? We don't remake american movies, that would just be stupid. A film is a piece of art right? And I understand that Hollywood wants to remake a piece of art for fun if it's very old, but why do they have to remake new movies? It's like they are saying "okey, americans are stupid, they don't wanna watch that foreign shit, let's remake it". I mean, wtf?

  • @BobbyShyne

In Holland we're used to subtitleling everything, which i feel works far better than what French, Spanish, German, and others do. But we're, therefore, used to it. It ain't a big deal but we KNOW that from experience.

This other countries have too many people, so they become cocky and chauvinists.

These people can stay in their own country and never cross the boarder. We don't have that luxury and adapt to international standards. It is what it is.

  • @TheSEEDanno70 We Dutch people if we learn to read we can watch everything subbed thats why we are awesome :3

  • The original swedish trilogy is one of the best movie sequences worth watching.

  • best review of the year... sooo good... great people

  • The swedish one is much much better!!

  • Just watch the original already =_=

  • Could be worse. Could have gotten a PG13 treatment.

  • Inte för att de svenska filmerna är speciellt bra... men hejsan.

  • the only reason im watching this movie is Fincher! the whole remaking foreign movies thing is FUCKING DISGUSTING AND DISRESPECTFUL! especially when the original(s) are great movies

  • @mastodon1314 It's Finchers version of the book. Not a remake of the film. Get over it.

  • @hevykevy316 yeah right i'm sure he wasn't aware of the original trilogy!

  • @mastodon1314 I don't doubt that he was, but the book was such a success there was going to be an English language version anyway. The original film changed the book, so was that disrespectful? It's not like Gus Van Sant's "Psycho" or anything.

  • @hevykevy316 I don't see the point of an english version of the trilogy when there is a GREAT one already. Its always the same fucking bullshit. When there is a great non-hollywood movie there is always some asshole ready to do the american version! LEARN HOW TO READ SUBTITLES THE REST OF THE WORLD IS ABLE TO!

  • @mastodon1314 Are you telling me to learn to read Subtitles? I've seen the Swedish movies, but I don't have a problem with them making a new version of it. What if every book could only be adapted once? We wouldn't have Bogart's "Maltese Falcon", Coen's "True Grit", "Dracula" from 1992. Even "Let Me In" was pretty good. Again, it would have been made into a movie regardless of the Swedish versions or not.

  • @hevykevy316 1 - most american HATE subtitles

2 - there is no point in remaking a movie that came out in 2009. Especially since the original is a great movie. this is a money grab by hollywood

3 - Let Me In is shit compared to the original Swedish version

  • @mastodon1314 1) That's a sweeping generalisation about American's. Maybe if the cinema chains had more faith in foreign movies, people would accept subtitles more.

    2) The movie is rated-r and has scenes of intense sexual violence. There's only a certain amount of money it will make. David Fincher isn't George Lucas. He makes movies, not franchises.

    3) "Let Me In" was an interesting take on the source material. Personally, I found the original to be quite ponderous.

  • @hevykevy316 when i say american i mean MOST americans! Unfortunately a good movie doesn't mean a box office success and cinema chains are not looking for good movies they are looking for box office success. So until there is a foreign smash hit MOST americans are not gonna bother watching a foreign film (obviously england is different). David Fincher is a a sign of a hit regardless of the rating of the movie!

  • @mastodon1314 I dunno man, only one Fincher movie has grossed over 100million domestically and that was "Benjamin Button" which I think might be his weakest film.

By the way, LOVE Mastodon. Saw them live as a three piece in Dec 08. Bill was out sick at the time. Great gig.

  • @hevykevy316 Mastodon is my fav band (obviously) I hope i can see them in Jan with Red Fang

  • 4:13 He can't be serious. I'm pretty sure a full on rape scene is just a little "risqué"

  • I love how you pronounce all the Swedish names ;P

  • I find it annoying that remaking the films just so it has the english language in it is so stupid. I dont understand whats so bad about subtitles, you still know everything that goes on and it doesnt make the movie any worse, look at pans labyrinth

  • Well, both the David Fincher and Swedish versions had pros and cons if you've read the books. Fincher's film had a lot more of the events from the novel, and was extremely stylized ( which is why I loved that movie), but what makes Fincher's film feel overshadowed by the Swedish film is the characters. I thought the acting was great in Fincher's film, don't get me wrong, but the characters felt more real or more charming. They're both great movies, but the Swedish Films are amazing.

  • I really like all the people that were interviewed, they all seem to know what they were saying

even if they weren't agreeing with each other, I'll give this movie a chance!

  • That's it. I'm watching the swedish version.

  • I didn't realize that girl who played the main character looked so good. She looks far too horrid in the movie, I couldn't look at her face long enough to watch the movie. I have no interest in seeing two people lead a movie when I don't even care for either them.

  • The film lacked a central focus because there were many different events occurring, however, the leading female character did an excellent job acting and deserves the nomination.

  • No reason to remake good foreign films, learn how to read well.

  • Can't wait to see this. Saw the Swedish films, they were good, but I think these will be better

  • Swedish version is much better! It is better acting, eaasier to get into the movie, and it already has relized the 3 movies so you don't have to wait, so WTF are you guys waitig for, give swedish version a try!

  • you have to see this movie if you haven't all ready. its is honestly amazing. it was a little slow to start but once it gets going, hold on and enjoy one of the best movies of the year.

  • I have seen the three foreign version and are really good I don't think these will be better.

I like to watch all kind of movies I very used to watch movies with subtitles but personally I think pretty much a good percentage of the Americans don't like to read subtitles.

  • Dear Grace, Did you see the film? If so, what were your thoughts?

  • well of course the foreigner dosent like the english version smh

  • @jairbear619 Yeah, it's definitely worth seeing if you've read the book or if you like watching stylish suspense-filled mysteries with superb acting. I might actually go see it again if I get the chance. It was really good.

  • The Swedish version is great. Plus if you only watch movies in English then man your missing out.

  • I just saw this movie today. It was so fucking brutal and intense. Definitely a must-see this winter break.

  • @CecenaGuy Was the movie scary? Just saying?

  • @jairbear619 I wouldn't call it scary. It was more on the lines of shocking and intense. The rape scenes are really graphic and there's a lot of violence and nudity. Don't go see it if you're easily squeamish. It's definitely not for the faint of heart.

  • @CecenaGuy Beside all of that, was this movie worth watching because I was planning on watching it tomorrow?

  • As an australian, remaking those films seems redundant. the original movies were great, the only reason i can think of is for american audiences.... very sad, but kinda true.

  • Great T-Shirt Grace!

  • Most American's are lazy and can't be bothered to read subtitles. Their loss.

  • the first couple are grade A americana hipsters, trying to sound smart by reading the thesaurus. how does she read the books and not know it's Swedish?? ugh..stfu woman

  • Grace I love the Shirt! Hothothot :p

  • Grace, as a Pittsburgher + as someone who worked on TDKR, I LOOOVE your shirt! Where did you find it?

  • i got the feeling im not gonna get this movie, maybe i should read the book or something before i watch it.

  • @lunatiksAlterEgo yes read it, i read it this year all 3 and even watched the movie (which were amzing) after each book. IT IS AMAZING BOOKS. i believe people are negative because they want the original to be the main one. I WILL be watching this. I recommend to read them.

  • I've seen the original and it's amazing, but I'd see this version because it's a Fincher film.

  • One part of me HATES it when Hollywood adapts perfectly great only a few year old films (like let the right one in) and I LOVE the original Milenium trilogy, the other part of me is a big David Fincher fan.

    WHAT TO DO!

  • I Loveee your t shirt Grace :D

  • "It's a David Fincher movie..." LOL

  • 1:14 "Why see some foreign movie when, if you're patient, you can see it in English..." I'm sorry, I don't mean to poo-poo on anyone here, but everything about that sentence seems awful.

  • @gabedom420 Because rather you or I like it, the majority of people in the US do feel that way. They'll watch movies dubbed rather then read subtitles while listening to the native language, even if the dubbing butchers the story/dialogue.

  • @gabedom420

That's not what she thinks, that's what most Americans think.

  • @gabedom420 And that was exactly the point of it, a shame tbh

  • @gabedom420 Well I would prefer to see it in English if I know its going to be released here in the states. No reason to see a subtitled foreign film otherwise.

  • is the rape scene more brutal than the one in Irreversible? to date that's the most brutal rape scene i've ever seen... i still have trouble sitting through it

  • @tw1ztid1 I seriously doubt it, because that scene was about 8 minutes long without cutting once. It forced u to just stare. I saw the original girl w/dragon tattoo, and the rape scene wasn't nearly as brutal as Irreversible, but it was still pretty bad...

  • I'm surprised that it's even getting positive reviews. I didn't see it yet, and maybe not until it comes out on DVD. I'm more of a fan of the Swedish film.

  • Since its a David Fincher film, i'll get around to seeing this at some point.

  • wow your movie theater is filled with intellectual people, the audience of my town movie theaters would say "THAT SH*T SUCKED" or "WOOOH Megan Fox!'

  • @pnfaraon New York could have anyone

  • @pnfaraon Even the dock working "sterotype" is considerably smart. I don't think I'm going to see it.

  • @pnfaraon lol she probably gets those idiots too, they just don't end up in the finished episode.

  • @pnfaraon

    LOL! Exactly!

  • I loved the Swedish one, I don't know why they made another one. Ahh well.

  • @MoumokuTaiyou IMO, it's a much better film than the Swedish one.

  • Couldn't they have changed his name? As a swede it just sounds off hearing him say Blomkvist.

  • Good reviewers!

  • The swedish movies are great! But i'm going to give the american version a chance too :)

  • I've been waiting all day for an upload! Thank you Grace!

  • Why does everyone hate that America remakes everything? Why would you watch it if you think it's just going to ruin it for you? Also I think it's cool to see movies be told in different ways. Hey, if it makes the movie makers happy...

  • @micalishis i also like when a movie gets a remake by other people . its always nice to see how other people think the movie should look .

  • @Povilas45 It's especially interesting with a book movie because books are up for the reader to interpret the way things look and stuff like that.

  • Grace. Did you know this film has an "A" CinemaScore?

  • is that DEV as the girl with the dragon tattoo?

  • I loved the Swedish version of this movie.

  • I wasn’t a big fan of the Swedish films. I thought Dragon Tattoo is a competent and at times exciting thriller but not memorable. Played with Fire is interesting until it just fizzles at the end. And Hornet’s Nest was just one big anticlimactic court-room drama. Spill released their review of the Fincher version and it sounds like an improvement over the Swedish films.

  • men who hate women, that was the title in norwegian too... I remember watchign them with my friends

  • 7.5? Such a fail. This movie was excellent from beginning to end. I don't care about how different it is from the book or the original Swedish film (both of which were really good), it lived up to what I was expecting it to be and would put in my favorite David Fincher films. 10/10.

  • loved this movie
