  • i like this video but i can't understand the wuy of this stupid song....please!!!!

  • Way to blow it, Greg!!!

  • grande. grazie for uploading!

  • bussetto,

so you criticize me for saying that saronni's sprint was amazing. then you write about him, "a legendary sprint", "outstanding and skilled sprinter", "saronni's unbeatable sprint".

do you know that you kinda contradicted yourself. do you understand that "legendary sprint" and "amazing sprint" kinda mean the same thing??????

are we talking semantic or cycling here?

  • @Busseto

Arrivederci.

  • Wow Busseto!! Didn't realise someone would get so upset by someone else's opinion. You say I know nothing about cycling..Well I was at the race at Goodwood, have 2 hours on tape and as I said Saronni didn't work..he didn't need to as the Italian team is traditionally so strong.

Would I expect him to be on the front before the end..NO! The team strength was to keep the race together till the end so Saronni could jump away. Just as he did. So I think I know a little bit about cycling.

  • Busseto,

i never heard kelly complain. i always saw him as a hard worker, old-style racer. i was a big fan of his. (he lived in belgium where i'm from). saronni's sprint was amazing but it is true that he was helped by lemond. lemond should never have led the pack like that when boyer (his teammate) was ahead. that was a bad move.

  • busetto

believe what you want. kelly lived just a few km from my house and i know more about cycling than most people who post on these boards.

yes saronni would have most likely won without lemond leading the pack. BUT it was a bad move from lemond. you don't chase a teammate like that.

and yes, saronni's sprint was amazing.

another amazing sprint, flat this time, was the year before when maertens beat saronni and hinault in prague.

  • @arnoldinerith ehm ...to tell the truth I don't think anyone who has some kinda good knowledge over cycling ( and the average Italian guy definitely has it ) may be upset by someone else's opinion when the opinion itself is said upon good ground , which honestly doesn't seem about you reading such a ridiculous and bizarre statement as " would I expect him to be on the front before the end " !! Such a stupid statement may only be spelled by someone who's completely clueless of cycling

  • because it's just the opposite if we wanna talk of cycling in a decent way : Saronni , like any sprinter else in da world, was supposed to stay well covered & inactive into the race group running a properly managed race in the correct way, the way any rider & team race since cyclism was created more than 110 years ago ...!

Sorry but I've got to tell that anybody saying such a silly statement like yours one , shows not to know much of this sport ....!! Are you sure you're not a umb troll ?

  • @Trulyloyale I don't think you understand English very well (but much better than i would understand Italian!) What I am saying is that Saronni did not need to be on the front because the Italian team did the chasing for him so he was strong for the sprint. If you watch the video from the start of the race you will see that Saronni is never on the front until the very end when he goes past Boyer. Anyway, you seem to be saying just the same thing as I have done so no need to be rude is there?

  • @arnoldinerith ah ok , got it , it's quite clear that I misunderstood your upper comment since I read it too quckly

and not wi necessary attention. I just made an uncorrect comment which looks also senseless rite now .....!!!!

    I apologize for that .

  • @Trulyloyale Thanks for the reply. I think it is great that a race that is nearly 30 years old can still get this much interest. Saronni's finish just takes my breath away!!

  • Boyer jumped away early cos he knew he couldn't win the sprint. Lemond chased him down - it's clear for anyone to see if you watch the whole race.

Saronni didn't work (he sat in the bunch all day - that's the strength of a big team.

I don't remember Kelly moaning - not sure where you got those ideas from. What exactly did he say?

But what a finish - Saronni went past like he was shot out of a cannon!

  • The shooting of Goodwood!!!

  • I'm a huge Lemond fan but I still think he screwed up in this one. I think Saronni would have won anyway (that sprint was amazing and perfectly timed) Lemond should have stayed in his wheel and tried to win in the sprint. A bit of inexperience back in '82 on his part, still a very exciting finish.

  • What else di sarroni do...nothing much

  • questa è LA FUCILATA DI GOODWOOD

  • Boyer always bitched about this, claiming he would have won "had it not been for LeMond 'chasing' him down....."

    Ya, right.

It was so Saronni's day. Lemond had nothing to do with it. The Italians were beyond perfectly prepared, worked like dogs to put the designated winner within range and Saronni more than lit the fuse. Look at him make Boyer look as though he is standing still. Great win and congrats to LeMond.

Whiner Kelly - as usual - bitched, claimed that Saronni didn't work.

  • That may be so, but you don't chase down a teammate, ever. It looks jitty.

  • May I ask why people always seem really hostile to Boyer when they discuss this incident? I agree that he probably wouldn't have won this race anyway, but the kind of language people use in saying so suggests a kind of antipathy to Boyer that goes beyond this particular case. You might think that Boyer would command a certain respect as the first American ever to ride the Tour, but you'd be wrong. What am I missing here? Is it the "Jacques" thing?

  • Why? Simple. Boyer endlessly complained, claimed, "LeMond chased him down and lead out Saronni..." Again, no way. Even Boyer's wife went after LeMond, physically hit him after the race. I was there...

Take LeMond out of the equation....., pretend he was not in the race. Boyer took off way too soon. He slit his own throat. Saronni was THE winner that day. He saw to it via superb effort and the Italian team, who were unreal - no surprise. When he lit the fuse and he did, the video sez it all.

  • You're right about Saronni being the strongest that day, and you're possibly right that Boyer overreacted, but I still think Lemond was kind of a skunk to do what he did. If Hinault had ever chased Lemond down like that in the final meters of a major classic we would never hear the end of it!

  • people were hostile to Boyer because he was different. i think he was vegetarian if not vegan. he would eat nuts when the others would eat meat. he had his own philosophy. hard to be different from the pack wherever you go. he experienced it first hand. about the race, he probably would not have won it but lemond clearly helped saronni. golden rule is, you do not chase down a teammate. we'll never know what would have happened if lemond had played by the rule.

  • @equinoxranch Had Lemond not closed the gap, or held it at arm's reach, would Saronni have done it himself and won? Did Saronni have loyal countrymen who'd have done the work Lemond did? I'm impartial btw.

    grazie mille

  • Che numero di Saronni!

  • Grazie Beppe

  • i was in the crowd- never seen anyone ride up a hill so fast!

  • Lemond chased Boyer down, even though they were teammates, because he didn't like him and didn't want him to be World Champion.

  • Bellisimo
