I watch the evening news on ABC every night and I'm under 40. I am, however, the only person I know who watches the evening news. Unfortunately, everyone else I know either watches Fox News or MSNBC. I do like some of the people on MSNBC, but they focus too much on politics and not enough on other stories of interest. Fox is just GOP TV. I tell some of my friends who watch Fox a fact, such as Barack Obama was born in Hawaii and they think I'm insane.But evening news constantly outperforms cable.

Actually, I love the evening news; I'm an 18-year-old Communications major. It's hard for me to keep in touch with whats going on in the world now that I'm away at college and don't have a TV. Charlie Gibson was my favorite anchor, but Diane Sawyer isn't far behind.

My grandparents still watch it and I do occasionally too. Charlie was one of my preferred newscasters after Peter Jennings died. I think Diane is great on GMA, so she is a good replacement even tough I probably won't watch.

I haven't sat down and watched the nightly news for many years. They lost me completely during G.W. Bush's two terms.
If nothing else, they try hard not to offend people who will pull their advertisement funding... even if it means skewing news and going easy on people in interviews.
"So and so said they will pull advertisement money if you talk about the corruption story again."
Sadly, I often find foreign news sources to be more reliable when keeping up with U.S. foreign issues.

more and more people in our generation are turning their Tv's off and canceling their subscriptions and I hope all of you do too, its nothing but controlled information and propaganda, its not even a good source of information, most of it is over generalized and sensationalized for profit ratings. It was a joke. Old people are offended in much worse ways and a lot more often than what I said. Harmless cartoons like the Simpsons say things like that all the time, but that doesn't mean we need to boycott them. I agree that the elderly deserve respect, but that doesn't mean that a simple joke that didn't mean any harm should be taken offensively. I just said that old people like Matlock. I wouldn't be offended at all if people said young kids listen to pop music - I don't, but a lot do.

ABC and the non-cable stations probably realize by now no one really cares anymore, so they figure "Oh, what the hell? Not like our ratings are ever gonna go UP anytime soon." I mean, even a guy like Ted Koppel was better at hosting Nightline than Terry Moran or that Indian-British guy. At least Ted Koppel SOUNDED like a newsman and had a classic voice.

I would like to say, though, that Ann Curry - who does reports on the "Today" show - gave a fascinating and humbling interview on Fora[dot]TV (just search for her name) that really blew me away, totally inspiring. When I think of real journalists I think of Ann Curry. She should get more attention.
