Miami! Who? You've got to be kidding. Linebacker U put the ultimate embarrassment on the 'Canes in the "talk smack and get your asses kicked" Fiesta Bowl national championship game in '86. Vinny Testaverde, 5 INT's, and all by PSU linebackers. Miami is old news.

Actually dude, that game is very old news. I'm a Penn St. fan but yur going back to 86. Ray Lewis & Jonothan Vilma are great LB's to come out of Miami. And i just wish Penn St. linebackers would do better in the NFL. POZ hasn't done shit for Buffalo.

Hey, if your dad wore the blue and white, you're OK. Yeah, Navorro is an animal, he should do great in the NFL. I see a lot of bonehead smack-talk on here, bozos like nealo786 who talk out of their butts. I grew up in State College, I'm a PSU alum, my dad worked there for 35 years, so PSU runs deep in me and my family. You talk crap about PSU, you'll hear from me. PSU's tradition is a good as any school in the country. How many players do most college teams graduate? Not as many as PSU.

exactly, graduation and class have always gone together with Penn St. athletes. my 2 older sisters went there in early 70's...with Capelleti's brother and one ofthe Suey's...also my dad went to the same high school as Jack Ham. My dad's originally from Johnstown,Pa.

@quincee33 I think one of the reasons PSU's LBs are so effective in college vs NFL, is the the PSU coaching staff lets the LB's roam. Where in the NFL they have to be more patient and not F up coverage, with the speed of the game there is a lot less room for error in Nfl obviously. Not that POZ is not effective because I think he does his job...but you won't see it as much in the statistics.

I understand you're a fan, and that explains why you can't see things the way they actually are, but you should at least be educated. Linebacker U. is just some moniker the press gave PSU when they were good. That's obviously not ANYMORE!In the past 20 years, PSU only has TWO Butkus Award winners. Arrington&Posluszny. Ohio State also has two but Oklahoma's got FOUR. Good luck this year. You'll need it!

Penn State is still Linebacker U. Even when they don't win games, they keep the offense in check. For example, in 2004, no team was able to score more than 21 points. In 2006, the normally potent offenses of the Big Ten were shut down. Ohio State's was held to 14, Michigan's to 17, Wisky's to 13, and Purdue to 0. In 2007, many teams were held to 14 points or less, with only Indiana (who we beat), Ohio State, and Michigan State scoring over 30. So, yes, we still have a good defense.
