I can't wait to have a bobcat someday! I came across the idea of owning one as a pet when doing reseach about taking care of exotic(er) pets and I was fascinated by the stories that people were sharing. They have such good temperments and personalities.
@robertwalters I just hope that you live in a state where you can legally do so! Unfortunately, in many areas, actually most in the U.S., private ownership of small wild cats is illegal. Even if you live in an area where you can legally own one, locating someone to buy a bobcat from would be difficult.
Hey I love this video! I've never seen someone play with a cat so well by mimicking their behavior so perfectly. Your bobcat is really lucky to have a companion she can socialize with in that way. I knew a guy who captured a wild bobcat and put it in his house. It attacked three people and had to be put down. I still think they would be cool pets though.

If you are pissing off your pet, you are doing something wrong. I have a dog that can break my leg with a single bite. she doesn't do that because she loves me and she does that because I treat her so well. I treat her so well, because I love her.
@gdogg024 - i agree with most of what you said, however bear in mind that large dogs have 14,000 years of domestication behind them, bobcats have none. Therefore, a 30-pound bobcat is, in most cases, more dangerous than any 150-pound mastiff.
I'm not 100% opposed to keeping a bobcat as a pet, but I think you'd need a decent-sized property for one. Keeping a bobcat completely indoors, like many people do with domestic cats, would be cruel.

@gdogg024 - well, not generally. For a 10-pound domestic cat, a typical house provides lots of hiding places, area to play and run, etc., that they would need. I don't agree with keeping a domestic cat in a tiny apartment though, but I guess there's nothing stopping anyone from doing that. However, I'd think that a bobcat would be extremely unhappy not being able to go outside (presuming there are windows and the bobcat can even perceive the "outside").

They keep going on and on about how it's cruel to keep it inside at all times and cats need to be able to roam free and have their independance and such. I would assume so, bobcats aren't genetically built for being confined indoors so I figure part of owning one is including plenty of outdoor activities.

@chrisGTO66 A Bobcat is a Lynx man well same species anyway, they're are 4 types of Lynx Eurasian Lynx, Canadian Lynx, Iberian Lynx and the Bobcat. The Bobcat is the smallest of the 4.
You can get away with so much more in the states! Is she a rescue animal? Have you ever been badly scratched by her? I know my old cat could leave pretty bad marks so god knows what a bob cat would do! Do you have a license to own an exotic pet like her? I can see she looks content and was just using her paws.

@symillickg yeah it wont ! they are kinda like the missing link.. they arent lions or panthers.. but they aren't little kitties.. they are wild animals but they arent as big and as crazy as the big ones.. but they arent the most domesticated.. its alot easier to domesticate this type of feline then it is a lion or something haha.. get it when its a baby.. and it will <3 u forever.. and keep it around people so it gets familiar haha

My friend has a sizable house and a room dedicated just for the cat to spare him from predators. He's declawed and nutered and has yet to mark the house. He was nutered before that stage ever happened. But just like a house cat, he has a high meow or whatever you want to call it because he was nutered young, lol. He only gets fed white meat because red meat can make them a danger to you. Especially should you cut yourself and they smell it. Also, that's one big litter box...lol
Yeah, well the local coyotes just got my 8lb housecat. Really unhappy about it. Can't get another because I know they will get it too. I was thinking of getting something that can survive better among natural Canadian predators. Bobcats are natural. This vid looks convincing. I hear the males piss all over the house though. I also hear they have to be declawed (which I hate because they can't defend themselves). Still thinking about it. They're beautiful cats.
@mycatwilatackyou I appreciate your sympathy. I got the cat to do a job. I had mice coming into the garage and birds nesting in my chimineys etc. Within a couple of months of getting him all the mice were gone and even the birds stayed away. For me, a cat should be free instead of locked up in a house, so I won't get another unless the Coyote problem is solved. Some people like to declaw and keep a cat locked up, that just seems cruel to me. I can't do it.
DO not get them declawed!! That's there defense and it would make them targets for coyotes .... declawed cat's cant climb tree's and can't defend themselves... a Bobcat is not different... Yeah there bigger and stronger but coyotes would have a huge advantage over a bobcat with no claws...

i have a question we were looking into get a bobcat but in pa u have to at least 2 years of hands on experience with an animal thats certified, did u have to do this and if so wered u go and how did u do it? thanks

@symillickg nope!!! you got to find them as a baby before their eyes even open that Bobcat thinks that the person is it's parent.
usually people keep bobcats, fox. raccoons etc. b/c the parent most likely got killed or separated from the babies.

@symillickg yeah it wont ! they are kinda like the missing link.. they arent lions or panthers.. but they aren't little kitties.. they are wild animals but they arent as big and as crazy as the big ones.. but they arent the most domesticated.. its alot easier to domesticate this type of feline then it is a lion or something haha.. get it when its a baby.. and it will <3 u forever.. and keep it around people so it gets familiar haha

My friend has a sizable house and a room dedicated just for the cat to spare him from predators. He's declawed and nutered and has yet to mark the house. He was nutered before that stage ever happened. But just like a house cat, he has a high meow or whatever you want to call it because he was nutered young, lol. He only gets fed white meat because red meat can make them a danger to you. Especially should you cut yourself and they smell it. Also, that's one big litter box...lol

Yeah, well the local coyotes just got my 8lb housecat. Really unhappy about it. Can't get another because I know they will get it too. I was thinking of getting something that can survive better among natural Canadian predators. Bobcats are natural. This vid looks convincing. I hear the males piss all over the house though. I also hear they have to be declawed (which I hate because they can't defend themselves). Still thinking about it. They're beautiful cats.

@mycatwilatackyou I appreciate your sympathy. I got the cat to do a job. I had mice coming into the garage and birds nesting in my chimineys etc. Within a couple of months of getting him all the mice were gone and even the birds stayed away. For me, a cat should be free instead of locked up in a house, so I won't get another unless the Coyote problem is solved. Some people like to declaw and keep a cat locked up, that just seems cruel to me. I can't do it.

DO not get them declawed!! That's there defense and it would make them targets for coyotes .... declawed cat's cant climb tree's and can't defend themselves... a Bobcat is not different... Yeah there bigger and stronger but coyotes would have a huge advantage over a bobcat with no claws...

Very cool! I have two bobcats and they are very loved too. I especially appreciate the song you chose. A lot of people wonder about sharing their homes and lives with bobcats not realizing all of the joy that bobcats bring to us. I am glad that your baby has such a loving home. :)
