  • In the 1980s, no other Chicago station did an excellent job with their programming than WPWR. Although their local ads just scare the heck out me sometimes because they're dated.

  • What was your opinion of WGBO 66?

  • I think WGBO was a beautiful, unique station. Their programming was a mix of old and mostly newer stuff. I think WGBO should have had a better deal and stayed ind. instead of the switch.

  • I miss all of the independent stations of WSNS 44, WPWR 60/50 and WGBO 66. I still believe the best independent station that did great with their programming was WFLD 32 before the FOX birth...44's was the MOST unique until ONTV. The closest we have to an indie station now is WWME 23/WCIU 26...

  • Hi Harps251=). WFLD was the fan favorite! WSNS rocked too! The corporate era ruined everything. I want to comment that the picture and sound quality of many WFLD clips are great for their time. Why is that?

  • My only deduction would be due to their influx of success (esp. with WGN) in indie ratings in the late 70s and 80s, WFLD must have gained add. revenues for themselves which might have been spent towards more up-to-date equipment, programming, and hiring of more experienced staff (graphics!) which, unfortunately, was what WSNS/WGBO didn't really have but I thought held their own.

  • That's a great answer. Plus, WFLD was aka "The station of tomorrow." The picture to at least 1982 was kind of blurry. WGBO was great quality wise too. I think that WFLD was ahead of the times.
