Its remaking well known and loved movies that never seems to work, you'd think theyd learn!

I think it's just conformism labelling Keanu Reeves a bad actor, he's a lot better than Christian Bale for example who is the perfect example of a talking wardrobe. Look at his performance in Bill and Ted and compare it to Devil's Advocate or The Matrix, those characters are miles apart.

if i recall all the films i've seen with him, he acts always the same. there is rarely an expression on his face / his body. why didn't i notice this before? well...

i think i was distracted from the movies itself!

e.g. nice girls (mostly the better actors beside keanu), an artillery of effects, an incredible set, etc. ..but if you concentrate directly on keanu, you will know!

I completely agree with the Dr's review of Reeves performance. In the film he was walking at one point and I though... "he's doing that wrong"... very peculiar performance. Jennifer Connely is beautiful but it doesn't save a very very bad movie

I've not seen this movie, and from the reviews I've seen I likely won't, but if a complete fool like Kermode doesn't like it then I might have judged this too harshly.

One thing I do know - having a critic poke fun at the name of the male lead for five minutes is not what I would construe to be an "absolutely brilliant" movie analysis. It is more what I'd expect from this dope.

I think you fumbled this one. The writers, producers & directors are the only ones to be skinned. ANY movie that wastes 2/3rds by character building is only going to suck. Nothing was "updated" with any point. You must be crazy. I just saw it today. It was very good. It kept me on the edge of my seat; very intense. The only thing I was disappointed with was the ending but still overall is was well worth seeing. If you like intensity buildup and cool special effects, youll enjoy this movie. Its not all action, but it still moves along well and the intensity and suspense keeps your eyes glued to the screen. I am even considering seeing it again next week.
