  • remember to use non-toxic paint and you can use large cooking bags( for turkeys ) instead of glass if that helps. also an adjustable vent like they have on top of bbq's will help control temps

  • Could you show how to cut the box at the angles?

  • great Vid! - I live in the desert and it gets hot here, and I mean hot...

I am going to give it a try, as I can set the food, then go golfing and be back 5-6 hours later... thanks for the info!

  • Thankyou for sharing this it's easy to follow and understand. I'm just learning about solar ovens, isn't there a risk of fire with cardboard and so much heat?

  • @frugalmumma You're welcome. I tried to keep the oven as simple as possible. For extra power you can always add reflectors (a single rear reflector would be the easiest type of reflector to use). Paper burns at 451 F (232.7777... C). The oven won't get that hot.

  • Thanks for showing this.

    Inspirational!

Do you think this box could be built from small ripple corrogated iron?

I'd like to leave it outside... and living in a tropical area... rain would be an issue, hence the metal box idea... External could be metal, internal could be cardboard?

    again, thanks. J.

  • @TheParadisoparadiso i'm glad you liked the video. yeah, you should be able to make the box out of small ripple corrugated iron. maybe make both boxes out of metal and use (sand?) for insulation.

  • go to you local dump and get the mirror out of a big screeen tv...its mylar and is very good ..might weigh 2 lbs total..if it falls it wont break....greatest reflector ever

  • great looking ovens...light weight too...excellent design..im going to build one out of cardboard boxes myself soon..

  • @centervilletn thanks

  • I wonder if you put the pots inside of large turkey oven clear bags and sealed it shut if the cooking temp wouldn't get alot higher.

  • Doesn't the moisture from the cooking get into the paper and the cardboard? Thanks!

  • @Fearlessthinker it doesn't seem to. sometimes a little moisture appears on the glass, but not very much.

  • great video, many people cannot get that temp without using reflectors. How long does it take for your cooker to reach it high temperature? Did you have condensation inside of it? Also how packed did you make your newspaper insulation??

  • @the1969info Thanks. Oven reaches 200F to 225F in about 30 to 45 min. Then going from 225F to 240F takes another 45 min. or so. Highest recorded temp 243F. For higher temps a 'rear reflector' could easily be added (piece of cardboard covered with aluminum foil and attached to the back of oven). Only condensation has been about a 1 inch strip forming along the bottommost part of the glass. I packed the insulation as tightly as possible without causing the sides of the oven to bend.

  • great presentation

  • Thumbs UP video, awesome!!
