I'm a follower for 30 years now , and I 'm still trilled and amased. Sorry about the written words here , I 'm Norwegian. I Love This Guys , And so do my wife.
Amazing live shows. Saw them 6 times from '76 -'77, then again on the "She's a beauty tour". Changed my entire outlook on music. I must see them again before I die.
I saw them open for Led Zeppelin in 73 at Kezar Stadium and Fee was wearing this same costume. I was wasted on acid and they freaked me out. Those boots. Thanks for posting this vid. They look so mundane and comical now, but at that moment, in acid world I thought they were truly Satanic.
I saw them at the L.A. Sports Arena (The Runaways with Joan Jett opened). It was by far one of the greatest concerts I've ever attended. There were costume changes and pyrotechnics, a marching band from Compton, and even an aerialist on a trapeze above the audience. The medley of Don't Touch Me There and Mondo Bondage was epic!
Pearl E.Gates of Pearl Haorbor and the Explosions was onstage! Singing backup I guess. I must have missed that back in '77, just noticed it now. Isn't the internet a wonderful thing?
they were based in San Francisco as the tubes tho several founding members are from Phoenix AZ i loved this band and lived in sf so was able to sneak into shows at 12 yrs old. they were incredible fee waybill and bill "sputnik" spooner were my faves.
Saw them do this on their Outside Inside tour at the Kerrisdale Arena in Vancouver. As the band did an extended intro Waybill came on stage in a straightjacket. He was laying on the stage thrashing for a couple of minutes before he started singing. It was a great show in front of maybe 2000 people. A few years later I saw them in at BC Place in front of about 50,000. They were the opening act for David Bowie. That kind of venue wasn't too good for them.
i wouldn't want to follow the Tubes on stage. They're quite an act. And phenomenal musicians. I'm sure Bowie held up well, but these guys were insane! They should have been at least half as big as Kiss as a concert draw given their stage show.
The Tubes played The Del Mar Theatre back in the day way before the Civic gig. Alan Cheese, a local is long time roadie and was next to Dwight Clark after "The Catch" after playin halftime Niners vs Cowturds in '82? :)
