you just have to understand that all of these wrecks were pre safer-berrier walls, it was like getting hit by a train hitting any type of non-safer berrier wall. check out dale jr's wreck at dover, it knocked him out cold and it looks like it was nothing at all.
@Tropicsca you are the most ignorant piece of shit ever. why the fuck would you post comments like that you god damn bitch. why would you even consider posting that shit, on a nascar death tribute video. i bet your a little bitch that trys to start shit on youtube, but your nothing but pathetic in person.
@Tropicsca you just have to understand that all of these wrecks were pre safer-berrier walls, it was like getting hit by a train hitting any type of non-safer berrier wall. check out dale jr's wreck at dover, it knocked him out cold and it looks like it was nothing at all.
@Tropicsca You gotta lotta nerve speakin' ill of the dead. These crashes may not look scary, but they kill. These crashes revoloutize NASCAR by givin' ideas to safety. Have you seen what happend to Michael McDowell at Texas? He emerged from that wreck without a scratch, because these drivers' deaths, God rest their souls, raised the concern of safety. "A bunch of idiots?" Damn you.
McTavish, my grandpa was there. He said at least 53 percent of everybody threw up or fainted. Seeing his possibly dead body exposed than hit into bits.
@Jgallstar1 I always think the same thing - looked like nothing. Then you realize that he would have been fine if he would have just agreed to the HANS device he so hated. Very sad.
they just didnt back off back then did they? like theres a crash and 30 seconds later a bunch of them come around not even paying attention and plough straight into a stationary car.
well i tihkn mactavish was dead before he got hit. it is so sad to see all the cars with roofes crunched down, doors slammed in and these crashes. its scary
@JagermeisterDetox yeah... top rated comment was written by too many Coor's Lights... But I get what he is saying. "don't talk shit about these 'dumb rednecks' because they died doing what they loved. Many people have died doing what they have loved, the deserve some respect." But I have no idea what Coor's light was saying at the end about start and parks...
my opinion, both f1 and nascar are extremely safe now, and there are hardly ever any injuries in both. I personally would just feel safer in a nascar, seeing as its closed as opposed to open. And its no coincidence that both f1 and nascar improved their safety AFTER an icon from each series was killed
@lamboboy001 I know open cockpit cars expose the driver's head to potential impact, but with lower car counts, large runoff areas/gravel traps, and tighter corners, the crashes aren't as violent. For that reason, I would take road racing over ovals regardless of the type of car.
Ok, not to say that i don't like watching the races cuz i do. They are interesting and i just love to watch what they love to do but i LOVE the history of this motor sport. From its humble beginnings of moonshine runners and "outlaws" to what it is today. I love reading about the stories and about the drivers, cars and Nascar itself. About how they got to what we see today. And trust me you get a better appreciation to what you see if you understand the history. That's with any sport though.
@sammieboj well in my opinion i would nascar is more safe than F1 and indycar especially what happened to dan wheldon in las vegas in 2011. i say nascar is more safe since F1 has no cover where there heads can be visible and could be hit by debris and i think you would get it
you are all idiots these was nascar drivers doing what they loved and dird doing it now they racing the race of their lifes with the name s of the 1s on this vidio with a few others as start and parks
@kingmatt334 they are totally different cars, f1 is one hell of alot safer, every single part has been through a couple of tests, for example the wishbones need to break in a specific way during impact so it slows down the car and wont be able to hit the drivers head, btw the last death in f1 was 1994, the death of ayrton senna, the greatest driver ever.
@BlueThunderfanracing no you cant, thats why the big airscoop above the drivers head is also called roll bar, it makes sure your head never will be able to hit the ground, and i know the other arguments like if you flip on gravel it will digg in, but then you still have the headrests to make sure you still wont hit the grond. if ya dont believe me, go watch the 2007 crash of kubica at canada.

@NASCAR48Fan1 actiually, f1 isnt, the cars are built so noone can die, succesfully performed since 1994, thats almost 18 years now, and the last serious injury we saw was michael schumacher breaking his leg about 9 years ago, so actiually walking down the stairs is alot more dangerous than f1, alot more people get hurt doing that
@TheEvanovitch im not performing in this argument. but all i will say is that there are TONS more people that walk down stairs than there are people racing indycars. but yes i do see your point. :)

For all those wondering how Don MacTavish's car got got torn apart up to the firewall before the second impact....he hit the metal gate (an opening) that gave way when he hit it. Much like both Mike Harmon and Michael Waltrip at Bristol. That impact tore his car apart leaving him exposed as seen in the video. "Chances" (IMO) of him surviving may have been slim up until Sam Sommers hits him at 1:53. Hope that clears things up a bit.
RIP all of the ones that have lost their lives doing what they love doing <3 Just wish some of these would have survived so they can see what their family does now.
@skatermason2002 WTF? What Dan Wheldon has to do with Nascar? o.O You have another video of Indy 500 fatalities - go there and write "RIP Dan Wheldon".
Must be extremely hard to be that driver that is caught in a huge smoke cloud at speed, only to ram into a fellow driver who may be injured, never knowing if you were the one who took that person's life, but certain that your vehicle was the one that secured that person's fate. RIP to all drivers, passengers and fans, pedestrians and anyone who passes at any time of place :( - much respects
so...as I watch this, and think of that prick Kyle Busch and his childish antics I think "why is that retard even in a race car?!" Joe Weatherly's wreck didn't seem that bad, let alone Dale's. Busch plowed Hornaday's truck into a wall at full fucking speed. He should be arrested for assault, banned permanently & quietly disposed of somewhere in a nameless bayou. Fucking coward.
@Richard94597 .............your a prick. kyle busch is one of the best drivers in nascar right now. there are lots of other drivers who shouldnt be driving racecars period. take it from some one who races. you dont know anything. and kevin harvick and ron hornaday have been crashing kyle out all year so kyle gave them some pay back. fuckin dumb ass.
I totally agree. He is the only honest 1 out there, he could have waited till green and faked a accident. But that is not Kyle, lol. He wanted him to know ya just dont do that shit or ya pay. So he got his and he knows why. no questions asked as of why? We all can see why. Best friggin Driver Nascar has, and I do not see a attitude problem. His crew loves him. The media plays a big role in tryin to "Make News". Dont believe everything ya hear ppl.
@Richard94597 I totally agree it would have happen the same for Johnson and Gordon but say if Edwards or Robby Gordon or hell even Mark Martin they would have
@Richard94597 Charged for assault? Every racer knows that when they climb into a race car it could be there last. Watch this and you will see that it wasn't the first time some one turned somebody else under caution
dude when the car got ripped in half i was like damn, after that car hit him i said ohh, dude thats so violent, i can almost feel it from here, that shouldnt be put on tv or youtube dude, not that crash, its worse then fucking horror movie kills
@andesmintlover Yeah, one of the worst crashes I've ever seen. You can clearly see him exposed. When the second car hit, it severed Don's legs completely off his body.
Where is the crash at charlotte, where the guys car goes airborne after contact coming out of turn 4. Goes roof first into the fence. I can't remember his name.

These are all extremely sad but they all died doing what they love. I'd rather go out in a racecar than in a hospital bed sitting on a bed pan.

@andesmintlover Yeah, one of the worst crashes I've ever seen. You can clearly see him exposed. When the second car hit, it severed Don's legs completely off his body.

@NSRacer114 You're a fucking moron.
Do I even need to list all of the European drivers that have been killed mid-race?

Where is the crash at charlotte, where the guys car goes airborne after contact coming out of turn 4. Goes roof first into the fence. I can't remember his name.
MassillonJoe 4 months ago
@MassillonJoe It was Russell Phillips at Charlotte, Oct '95 in the Sportsmans series.
