Great ride and indeed some big rocks they are LOL. As you mentioned in your vid you can really see how big they are when you see that man and then zoom out.
@bakker46 Greg's description of the rocks couldn't have been more active when he said you will see a tiny thing moving and then realise it is a person...it was only then you realise the scale of the rock.
@larrythelookout He was a really nice guy and I was glad he tipped us off otherwise we would have drove straight passed the turn off and never have been the wiser.
@RedanWhiteRebel I live 131 miles from the Grand Canyon and go there frequently. I have lived out here
2 1/2 years and am constantly still finding new places to visit. Red Rock canyon is about 31/2 hours from my house. Going to glacier national park next month.
@cashstore1 You are a very lucky man Cash with such a variety of riding within a relatively short distance. Look forward to seeing some footage of Glacier National Park. Have you ever been to Death Valley.
@RedanWhiteRebel I think I was in Southern part of it when I went to Yosemite last year, but have not toured
it as of yet. I think it may be too hot for me this time of the year. Phoenix is getting their 106-110 temps now and suspect death valley to be a bit warmer. Did you like it?
@cashstore1 The heat was incredible and it was very interesting. I would have liked a little more time to explore but like Yosemite we only had time to ride through.
I think you plagiarized the old 60s-70s Honda commercials there when you said "you meet the nicest people on BMWs...". That was supposed to be "You meet the nicest people on a Honda". lol
When I was starting to go up to Monarch Crest I had the same thing happen with the size of the rocks and surroundings. It's really difficult to tell how big things are! The only clue is they don't seem to get closer no matter how long you ride toward them. My experience was that almost every rider you meet up with on the road is friendly and interesting to pass some time with talking. Although I think some KLR riders are a bit uncouth ;->
@KeukaRyder Thanks KR it was fascinating to see a little dot on the face of the rock and realise it was a person. It gave a great indication of the scale which wasn't obvious until you had something to guage it by.There is that one KLR rider I can think of and uncouth is a very mild description.....lol.
@64rlwri I have to agree with you about the video not doing it justice...... it was an amazing. If you get to go again I highly recommend doing Red Rock and Death Valley in the one day..there are some fantastic contrasts.
@808yewtube Thank you so much 808..... coming from the clearest and the sweetest voice on youtube I take that as a compliment. It was such a fantastic experience I am going back in September to discover more of your beautiful country. I would love if Greg saw this and left a comment...his reputation is in tact, it was a fabulous place to visit.
@RedanWhiteRebel That's great that you are returning for more riding, and as for the first part, lol, I really don't know about that, but... thank you ;)
@really2ugly Thanks r2u...the Death Valley vid will be next and of course the nicest motorcycle rider we came across on the whole trip had to be riding a BMW...haha.
Red Rock, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Glen Canyon are places I really hope to get to someday in the Southwest.... sadly now live ~2000 miles away from that general area.... ... someday.
@RedanWhiteRebel Indeed... I've mapped it many times... It's about 6000 mile round trip to pick up all the western United States. Last year I did that for the eastern states. Took about 12 days to do it comfortably. 15 States, 1 County (Mexico), the Z county (in Texas). And while I have the vacation time (actually I've maxed out my 4.5 week allowance), I have to get my house in Texas sold/rented/something. Paying two house bills is killing my savings.
@todkapuz Would love to see your route for the eastern states for my trip in September and also any advise on places to see that you think were well worth it. These trips are killing my savings but there is no point in being the richest corpse in the graveyard....lol.
