  • the books were great, movie was a fucken travesty.

  • God loves life, he has made and supported alot of different kinds of it. Too many things are logical and these rules haven't as yet changed. He has control. What we see as imperfect is actually perfect and can teach us a different way to look at things and learn about ourselves. He has mixed and matched so many things into one place, it is awesome. Most answers are easily found.

  • @headalphafemale ha people only turn to religion because they dont know and there scared and so they come up with these gods who they think will give them eternal life if there good and then theres greedy people like priests who take peoples fear and use it for power

  • Great book, crappy movie

  • lol "ha, ya know what I just realized? We look nothing like we did in the movies!"

  • The original book was called Northern Lights. I'm guessing they called it The Golden Compass to appeal to an American audience... as they totally don't like the Aurora Borealis over there.

Your vids are really fun! ^^

All compasses point to the truth? That would be great.

  • I love the way you draw the hands in your videos.

  • Thanks! I actually drew a hand once that I liked so much that I saved it on it's own and I use it on all characters I draw!

  • your drawings make it

  • lmao

  • I'm working my back through your videos...

    HAHA!

A little shaky at the start, but 2:11 on was really good.

  • funny as hell.

  • Thanks man! Subscribe, always more coming.

  • One question, did you use flash 8 for this, or another program. This looks very much like south park animation.

    (*South park is awsome!!*)

  • I draw in Flash MX 2004. Haven't upgraded since then. But I do the actual compositing and animation in Sony Vegas.

  • lol the most awesome part: "here lyra, have a golden compass" just throws it at her and it falls on the ground! XD kinda weird that she had no daemon with her, though. yeah, i have two friends that are christain, and they love the book as much as i do.

  • they must be really bad Christians then. the idiot that made the movie tried to prove god wrong ( he failed ). so for a christian to like that is a christian who contradicts everything he stands for in his life......now whats the point in that?

  • Shut your fat mouth!!!!! my friends are awesome, and they are good christians, but they aren't obsessive 'religious-freaks". Only Religious-freaks think that The Golden Compass is bad, and get all offended by it.

  • LMAO you use a stupid phrase from the BIBLE and say that I got "Pownd"? LOL LOL LOL That's hilarious!!!! XD not everyone is a Christian, idiot. Just because It's in the Bible doesn't make it true. lol.

"The movie was make to prove god wrong" ROTFL you have no idea what this book, or movie, is about. I have done TONS of research on this book AND the movie, and I can assure you that what you just said is VERY inaccurate. The movie was not made to "prove God wrong." lmao

  • I don't think Christians are stupid, I think Christians who are close-minded and too obsessed with their religion to be open to things such as science, evolution, etc are the REALLY annoying ones.

  • lol your funny. I was open minded enough to think that there is a god. you however are very closed minded. you are to closed minded to think"what if there is a god".

  • WTF are you kidding me?!?! I think "what if there is a god" all the time! Well, not all the time, but very often. I'm not an Atheist or anything, I like to think that there is more to this world than what science can explain.

  • Trust me, if you think that this movie was made to "prove God wrong", than you have NO IDEA what this movie is about. LOL it's kinda funny that anyone could think something so stupid. XD

  • @godfollowerr101, I can tell you clearly are arrogant enough to argue a point without any real merit.

Christians are not correct, nor are any other religious people. And guess what? Neither are non-religious people. You can't make the claim to be correct without any proof.

Guess what? Neither side has any proof whatsoever. Either be tolerant of each other and make the best of this earth, or live a miserable life - and end up in Hell if it exists. You think God would want you discriminating?

  • well of coarse not my friend. but he would want me to prove him right :-Dy ou are right about one thing though. We both dont have enough proof to prove both of our claims. but I would need to show both of you god first hand for you both to believe me. HOWEVER, I still have a lot of evidence to support my claims. Really I have never lost an argument with an atheist before. So petercoffin, I can still prove the fact there there are VERY hi chances of there being a god.

  • this should be fun

"i still have a lot of evidence to support my claims"

ok can you kindly provide extra biblical empirical evidence then

"i have never lost an argument with an atheist"

yeah does that count all the times you've just stuck your fingers in your ears and ignored?

"very hi chances of there being a god"

well if we were to take it at face value it would be 50/50 add in all of the claims (tens of thousands) of gods and the chances of there being a god and it being your god plummet

  • opps wrong acount

  • I have seen nothing in my life that can't be explained with science. On the flipside, I've also never seen anything that makes me think "there is no way there is a god."

Life isn't about what happens after you die, though. It's about life.

  • god painted a picture called "life" that doesn't meen he is defined by it. he doesnt have to be born and he doesn't need to die.

  • also "Life isn't about what happens after you die, though. It's about life. " you keep telling yourself that......

  • Life is about life. Period.

If you aren't religious, that should be obvious. And if you ARE religious, the only reason you have a life is so you will experience that of a mortal being.

Otherwise, God would not have given life. It'd be a purposeless act if the intention was solely to judge for afterlife. Mortality on a judgment basis is a waste of time and energy. It's for experience. Hence, not about the afterlife.

If God is not real, though: try to make the most of life. You don't know.

  • life is about life your right but "life" thats in life is about god for me. and religions meens "loving people. so yes I am very "religions".Not in the bible bashing way. God made life becuse he wanted to not to judge us. how would you know? have you sat down with him and had a lil chat about life?? lol....

  • I haven't, but you act like you have.

  • You are just being a part of the joke that is in the description:

"Yay for organized religion and it's silly squabbles with everything that doesn't support it! "

that's basically what you are doing.

  • also, there's a part in this video that you should really pay attention to:

"It's like people these days don't know the difference between stuff that's supposed to make you think, and stuff that's supposed to offend you."

My christian friends know the difference, that's for sure! And the part after that made me LMAO:

"Maybe it's the idea of thinking that offends them."

    LOL

  • And yes, South Park is awesome.

  • i thaugh that dust was cocain or some thing lol

  • It's some kind of magical thing, so it could be cocaine.

  • that.... is.... awesome!!!

  • Thank you!

  • The books themselves are perhaps not that bad, but Pullman himself is an arrogant annoyance. Like J.K. Rowling...everyone loves her books, but she the person is just...weird...

  • People must have forgotten there are atheists.

  • why is christians so quick to daw the "brainwash-card"? If anyone is braiwashing their kids it has to be religious people.

The golden compass is a trilogy that critisise religion, but I don't understand the problem? There are thousands of books out there who does the the same thing!

And christians critisise everything; homosexuality, atheism, islam .. and so on.

  • Exactly my point, buddy. Hence the idea of a closed-minded contest every year.

  • yep, I think critisism both ways is a good thing. That way everyone get a chance to make up their own mind, based on their own beliefs and arguements from the world around them.

If we completely shut down one the sides chance to speak their mind, people are right when they call it brainwash.

Did you make the movie yourself?

Is it just me, or did I just write english like a first grader?

  • What makes me upset as a Christian myself is that so many "Christians" present themselves to be over-critical and close-minded when Christianity is really supposed to be the complete opposite of that. It SUCKS that the Christians who get the most attention are the ones who don't act like Christians at all. They point fingers and forget that they have their own issues that need to be fixed. Because of them Christianity gets a bad rap and people like me are looked at as "crazy". I HATE it.

  • Nah, I don't think all of any group on the planet is looked at as crazy. Except Scientology.

I'm not a religious person, but I don't think all people who are religious are crazy. The people I tend to go after are the jerks that screw things up for everyone else.

  • I hate it when people act like that...

And Scientology is a bunch of BS. :P

  • Thanks dude!

  • Nor should it. It's ridiculous to think that that book or movie would "brainwash" anyone. That is the point of the cartoon.

  • Well, there's always potential for some things to, if the reader/viewer can't think for him or herself. Which, sadly, is what most modern people's brains are like...dead. It's the job of artists not to manipulate people's ignorance, but it's also the job of people to start using that thing that's taking up space in their skulls as if it's actually supposed to be there...

  • super parody!!!

  • lol moose lodge.

  • You are the first person to comment on that on any website on the entire internet. Thanks!

  • any time my good man, any time =]

  • Lol i liked the guy who was just skipping a around like a loony

  • Perfect parody. I was sort of bummed when I heard the movie was toned down from the book. This is a very clever parody.

  • Thanks Jesse!

  • You are the voice of Strindberg on Strindberg and Helium??

  • Nope, I don't even know what that is. You have a link or something?

  • The funny thing is, that in the book, it is never called a golden compass, and in Britain, the book isn't even CALLED the Golden Compass, so no "Golden Compass" is referred to in the British edition, which is the original. Because it's not a compass at all, it's an alethiometer. I have no idea why the Americans changed the name. Just saying. Hilarious video by the way, straight to my favourites.

  • Awesome, dude. Thanks.

  • No it is very open minded we are open to new theorys of creation etc even if it involves a supreme being I am willing to accept that there is a god if you give me evidence unlike the bible, but so far as they have no proof so according to me there is no such thing as a god, atheism just happens to mean that you have no belief in god so whether you like it or not you are an atheist.

  • Then you aren't saying there is DEFINITELY no "god" therefore you are not an atheist, but rather a skeptic.

Atheists = there is no god and that's a fact

Believers = whatever we think is real and that's a fact

Either way, it's a fact in their heads or they are not truly one of those sects of belief.

  • No what I meant by proof that there is a god is if god shows it self to every one in the world and you get to feel his divine power that's what I meant, and I am not doubting that god will do such a thing I know god will not because there is no such thing as a god, you get what I am sayiing now? Peter I know what atheists and believers mean, the funny thing with us is that our fact's are based on that we don't have any!

  • I don't think YOU even get what you are saying. You just said (I assume through grammatical error) Atheists don't have any facts. Dude, I'm not trying to berate you, but in your first post you said you would accept "God" if proof arrived. A REAL atheist would not even think about that. Just like a REAL Jesus freak would not accept no God if proof of that arrived. Either BELIEVES wholeheartedly and would try to dispute said proof.

  • My point is that you cannot have 100% firm beliefs and still be open-minded. You can be respectful of others beliefs, but for someone who firmly believes or disbelieves something, the jury is out already.

  • Nobody has 100% firm beliefs, it's impossible. Well not entirely, I guess you can say that the jury is already out but the verdict is not decided yet.

  • yeah i'm christian and i loved the books. the movie was a bit crap but the books didn't change my belief at all really. it's just a story.

  • I can't wait for the director's cut to come out. I heard it was much better than the cut that was released in theaters.

  • yeah. im not religious but i think that the books should be read by anyone. they are very good.

also, Philip Pullman said that if you become atheist then you can write to the publisher and ask for your money back. weird, huh?

  • yeah. im not religious but i think that the books should be read by anyone. they are very good.

also, Philip Pullman said that if you become atheist then you can write to the publisher and ask for your money back. weird, huh?

  • Atheists are close minded? I did not know that, cause that is not true we are open minded well I am.

  • The idea of Atheism is closed-minded - just like the idea of blindly following a religion is. To say it is DEFINITELY one way or the other is closed minded. Neither side has provided any proof, so as far as I am concerned it's a null issue.

  • who cares whether ppl r atheist or not??!!

  • Not I.

  • supercashboxer said "who cares whether ppl r atheist or not??!! " Christians, who's iron aged ungrounded beliefs are so totally implausible they are justifiably afraid to entertain the thought there may not actually be a supernatural force at work on earth, for starters. ;-)

  • But at the same time, it is as unfounded to say it is impossible for anything to be out there.

I wish the world could just settle with "we don't know" and get on with life.

  • petercoffin I liked your flash work.

  • Thank you, sir.

  • ok ok

  • it doesnt matter if you are catholic or non-believer, the flying spegetti monster's noodly appendage holds you down equally

  • The reason why I don't support it: DO WE CHRISTIANS MAKE MOVIES ATTACKING OTHER RELIGIONS??? NO!?! It's very similar to nazi propaganda.

  • You probably don't personally, but any religion (or firm point of view) makes stuff saying it is right. Saying Christianity doesn't make movies promoting its views as correct is delusional.

  • Ok gosh no need to be rude.

  • Sorry but there has just been way to much talk about Golden Compass being an aethiest movie.

  • Do you just not get the point of parody, or what?

  • First of all why do they pronounce her name like Leera? Second, IT DOESN'T TURN PEOPLE INTO AETHIESTS!!!

  • 1) I pronounced it that way because I did not see the movie, nor have I ever spoken to anyone who knows anything about it. 2) It's a joke, dummy. I am making fun of the people that think seeing a movie that doesn't promote their agenda automatically converts everyone to another one.

  • why don't you listen to the books then so u can pronounce things right?

and boy did that turn to being about religion real quick. its not that funny now.

  • lol that hilarious~!

  • Hilarious!

  • but its lyra as in y as in eye not ee

  • This is great! The Magesterium in the movie is pretty much as pointless as you made them out to be. And the fact that you talked about Dust as plain dust cracked me up.

I definitely recommend the books! But the movie comes nowhere close to doing The Golden Compass justice.

  • I do actually want to read them as well as see the movie. I probably will eventually.

    Glad you liked it!

  • The funny thing is, that it's pretty much the picture you get of the movie, when you have read the book.. or havent.

  • Except the Magisterium. There is no way they look like that.

And I have not read the book or seen the movie. I want to do both, actually.

  • haha spot on and funny too :D

  • Thanks man!

  • Hi, very good!

  • Thank you!

  • ok , peter good work!

  • Thanks man!

  • Yeah for extremist atheism, and its silly squabbles over anyone that doesnt support it.

  • You didn't watch the cartoon, I take it. I called Atheism more closed minded than Christianity. Granted, I did call Christianity closed-minded, too. But I think that saying we are here because of coincidence is ten times more retarded than someone spending a week making Earth.

But honestly, the controversy over this is not because a bunch of douche atheists can't take a movie/book that questions them.

  • lol

  • That's funny.

  • Thanks, Mr. Hagle.

  • "yeah familys will stay home and tier children will never become atheists" ha ha... nice

  • Well, movies make people athiests if they don't support Christianity! DOI!

  • lol why did I get an email that this was something I needed to see?

I think I need to watch the movie before I understand what's going on here.

  • Who sent it to you in an email?

  • Nice work!

  • "perhaps it is the idea of thinking that actually offends them" Bwahahaha.. that's great.

  • Perhaps...

    Thanks dude.

  • What?

  • no....they don't

  • Hey did u just walk out of the late 1800s?

  • Nice work!!

  • lol "the trophy is beautiful"

  • "what exactly is dust" - lol.

    pretty good.

  • cool

  • did you animate this?

  • Yes, sir. Came up with the idea at 2pm Friday, worked on it from 6pm that day to 5pm Saturday.

  • hahahaha... funny:D I haven't seen the movie, but I have read the triology in book form:D nice done!

  • lol

  • I found this clip funny,and i am a heathe....

    Ummm ateist.^^

  • lol.... thats all i can say..... yay opressive estabishment!!!!

  • hahahahha fuckin brilliant!

    5*

  • Thanks! Dust!

  • haha!

  • Uncle James Bond...

Ha! I noticed that in the previews.

  • Pointless =s
