Lufthansa's 747s are sweet! I saw an up-close front view from inside the terminal while waiting for another flight, and then the back of the plane from taxiing at Dulles the other day - beautiful looking plane!
on the outside yes, they're beautiful, but when I'm actually flying in one of them, i pray for an a340-300/600 or an a330, cause they actually have Inflight Entertainment in those. they haven't and probably never will retrofit the 747s, so i'm hoping for some airbuses!
I was also getting a little frustrated with finding decent spots for viewing at Dulles (especially considering I work directly between the approach paths for all 3 parallel runways, and live within 5 minutes of the airport as well.) The best spot is to drive to the Air and Space museum, pay the $12 to park in the museum parking lot, then WALK back down the road a little ways till you're directly under runway 1R (right outside the gate.) Very good spot (and the one used in this video.)
hahahahhahahhah rofl!!! gravelly point is at NATIONAL airport not dulles. of course you wont c any big ones at national because they dont take 747s. U gotta go to Dulles in Chantilly to c that
I took 66. Boy was that an adventure! We were visiting from New York. That was my second time in DC. I'm going again with my school in March of '09. I just can't get enough. But we won't be going anywhere near Dulles. :(
is that where the air and space museum is?

I was parked on the shoulder to the museum (Udvar-Hazy Center).
By the way, if you park there, call airport-control and let them know or airport security will ask you to move.

I just moved to Manassas.....do I go up 66? Where is the best place to see the planes?
judysweetfunny 3 years ago
No, don't take 66 please. Just go North on Route 28, then take the Museum exit after passing 66 and three other exits. Take care.
