  • nice maaan...real nice

  • really good did you write this

  • BrucePetty,

Tune to open D, then capo on 2nd fret, give you open E, though if you use lighter strings, crank it up to open E, a decent made guitar should be able to take that tuning, don't worry.

  • What guage are your strings? I'd like to use open e with 12 guage strings, but I don't know if they'll break from the extra tightness. Thanks and great playing

  • @BrucePetty

Hey Bruce, long time.. yes, I am using 11's here. I figure most of the quality

guitars can handle the stronger tone strings.. I haven't used 12's on my D 28 but I would if I wanted to.. Another way to get the open E configuration ( I do this) is to

tune in the open E but a step or two down..so as to relieve the stress on the neck.

    Good luck, good pickin

  • See I just got my guitar out of the closet. Here I am just fiddling with the neck and strumming all of the chords at once with the pic i made out of a school ID card. I'm not sure if my mind can handle memorizing strumming individual chords and where to place the chords on the neck. Hope I can get a handful of original songs down one day so I can play for people in the park. Your great.

  • @StrangeWorld18

I have tried playing in the park, most people are ass holes, so I play at home.

  • man your good

  • @busterboxer86

    Thanks Buster !

  • man i really like this. i love open tunings, and ur voice is amazing. I like that old country sound. whats the name of the song?

  • @Gradey3

I think this is two songs.. the first is Helplessly Hoping by CSN & Y

    then a different one..

  • VERY nice...thanks....:)

  • @JEDIALADDIN

    You are more than welcome.

  • Awesome stuff, very pleasant voice and nice controlled playing.

    Keep it up!

    Greetings, Peter

  • @amlahguitar

    Thanks Peter !

  • Very nice! The timbre of your voice reminds me of Cat Stevens somehow

  • Your amazing.

  • @balletdancer8014

    No you are... :)

  • you're a saint man. good job

  • surprisingly good! congrats...great guitar, i hesitate whether this one and a martin om 21 to buy.

  • wow thats great!!!!

  • Nicely executed. Ever try open D? Gives a more 'bassy' warm tone and a nice resonant sound. It's also less pressure on the neck.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Yes, I have and do use open D and dropped D on a few songs..I guess I fiddled with these two tunes in E, and just kind of got stuck there.

I do a play along with Derek on youtube that is in open D..Thanks for viewing

  • I love your voice, such a great country kick to it. I've not heard a voice like it since I was a lil srpog listening to my dads old country albums

    Blackbird..thanks for the rating

    Regards

  • nice work loved it

  • Beautiful!!!!awesome!!!!

    five stars dude!!!

  • Five stars for your comment !!

  • I play in open D tuneing its the same thing as open e just easyier on my neck since its not in the best of shape. I play a lot of heavy metal with it but i is a great blues tunning as well an really is better for blues. but I like it alot. I get some great little diddys out of it. I got to songs in my band in open D. by the way I dont mean drop d. oh an martin guitars are great guitars but so are seaguls. I dont have 10,000 for a martin so I play alverez

  • Derek Trucks plays in open D, like your style.

I have a vid I did, where I play along with Warren and Derek in D (open E dropped-not dropped D) It IS easier on the necks.. I also like to use this arrangement for metal, I did a

weird AIC 'Stay Away' using open e thanks

  • My Seagull sounds better than any Martin, period. Its a 1992 12 string that i play with 8.Its very well seasoned,w all the nicotine and such.I like your style and love this song. Thanks for posting.

  • thanks for viewing !!

  • Uh-oh! Moron alert. There are a dime o' dozen of you people on YouTube making stupid comments. Do us a favor and stay off. Enough is enough. If you dare compare Martin guitars to Seagulls, it could only mean one thing. "You don't know your ass, from a hole in the ground." Have fun with your Canadian guitars, more Martins for the rest of us.

  • wow!!! i luv to finger pick, lots of blue grass in such well u r very good how long have ya been playin?

  • since I was little.. I am 50, so about 40 years..I am stubborn(hard to teach) and I am self taught..lol so I have a CRAPPY teacher..lol

  • nice just the way i am!!!!!!

  • How a guitar sounds is very subjective. If this guy loves his Martin, let him enjoy it! You like your inexpensive guitars, and that is cool too.

It's money in the bank, though, because the used Martin market is very strong. I paid 1500 for a D18 two years ago, and sold it for 1550 last week!

  • I answered a newspaper ad For Sale 1937 Martin, 1500 bucks. It was a 32 00. I couldn't rip her off, so I sent her to Gruhns..she got 10,500 for it.

  • wow man ... thats fucked up .. I WOULD SO buy that from her

  • Sorry to say it but a Martin D28 does not sound as good as the lowest class Maton... I have played them both and more than one model from the same classes... the Maton is far superior. I just wish I could afford one!

  • Hi

Like the first tune... Blackbird though doesn't sound right though I appreciate you are in a different tuning.

Can't understand why you paid 2k for a martin D28 when there you could have had a Maton for £700, a Getsch White Falcon for £900 a Simon and Patrick for £220 and a Tanglewood TW30 for £200 - and a kick ass acoustic amp for £200+ - Why buy a guitar that clearly doesn't sound or play as good as an S&P or Tanglewood???

  • yeah.. thanks I guess. I bought it from a dealer that does special service to it whenever I take it in. That is why i spent the bread, plus I think a Martin is a great guitar, and sounds wonderful. this is just a camera recording

  • I'm sure you know the guitars are like... all personal preference..

I've always been told about good guitars like Seagulls, Takamines, Tanglewoods etc..

But honestly, I played a Martin DX1 (One of their lower models) and it sounded better than any guitar that I have ever played, including Taylors.

The tone is what I really like and that is why Martin focuses on.

  • I paid a little much for mine..around 2 G. I got mine from a warrantied dealer that keeps it setup and all that, so in the long run it is well worth buying new from a licenced dealer.

  • I love this song and you gave a new aproach to it.

    Nice!

    Gus

  • Thanks very much.. !!

  • Do you have the tabs for this song? Sounds great. Check out our channel.

  • I don't have tablature. this is played in open E..

    Thanks for viewing

  • your voice is healing

  • wow

  • absolutely stupendous, magnificent playing, u r rly good, im currently trying to learn this song, but u play it real well, love harmonics at end of helplessy hoping

  • If you want to learn it this way, you have to tune to open e. I *think* it is the way it is done originally.

  • i'm FAN

  • thanks David, I am a fan of yours also.
