GUNS..power up!!it was so hard this game but still massively addictive think i only ever got to the second level with the mountains even tho i absolutley kaned it every day, i might ahve been crap at it but i think it was one of those games where the more time you ut into it the further you got!!
Best Amiga game I had, spent hours of my childhood playing (and getting horribly destroyed) on this. Between this, Alien Breed 2 and Lotus Turbo Challenge I must've spent a stupid amount of time.
@ShiryuGL I have always thought about producing a remix of this song, but then I listen to it again and realise that it can not be improved. The Amiga has such an amazing sound chip, leagues ahead of their competition.
@Chubywarrior Possibly. Don't just go ahead and use it though. Get in touch with Team17's support email and request written permission. All you need to do is explain what you want to use it for and they'll advise you of their policy. The game is very old, so you have an excellent chance of having permission granted.
Team 17 were the very best software house for the Amiga. This and Alien Breed were my favourite games along with Supercars 1 & 2. The soundtrack to Project X is awesome, Allister Brimble is a god.
You can find a lot of Amiga game images on the web. As to their legality, it's pretty much abandonware now but if you need to justify it only download games you actually paid for and no longer have the media?
I don't think this game was winnable. I could get up to level 3 legit, but I cheated once, just to see what was past it. I got up to level 5, the boss and it was unkillable.
It had a shield and even when I flew through it, it couldn't be damaged.
Though maybe I had the wrong weapon, I was using plasma.
I remember wasting countless hours of my childhood on that game, it was so hard and the music was haunting. Definitely on my AMIGA glory days top 10.
Thank you, this brings back memories.. also it reminds me that I am getting old but no matter. I am tempted to go dig up an emulator but where in the world would one acquire legal copies of the games these days, I know my childhood collection is all gone and frankly I don't even have a 3½" floppy drive anymore if I could find them.
@gnomeuser uhm.. what does an Amiga cost these days.. Get an a1200 + harddrive for 100 Euro and you're playing all those classic games like they are meant to be played: on a Real Amiga. Oh and WHDLoad gets rid of annoying disk loading, too :)
@gnomeuser You can get second hand Amigas on eBay. I still use my A600 I bought it in April 1994 and it is still the greatest computer, it is sitting here next to my PC. You can also buy Project X on eBay sometimes you need to check every few weeks for it to come up.
remember I bought this on the amiga back in the early nineties (the special edition), had already played it of course and had a cracked one but eventually bought (almost) all the team17 games ;)
anyway i just looked in the manual for fun, and it just said "the planet ryxx is under attack of aliens - you must destroy them" (or something to that effect) haha simplicity is best! :P
Like others have said, the graphics and music blew my mind when I first saw this on my much beloved Amiga 500. I must have been around 14 years old back then *sigh*.
Also remember never being able to make it past level 2, this game was manic!
They make the X1000, and all the next gen miggys. I don't like them because they are crap and overpriced (but i still bought one). The Natami and Minimig systems are epic though, you could call the first a "A5000" and the second a "A500 compact".
it's a shame really the amiga had a good run but it could have gone longer but the court cases by companies like apple commodore went bankcrupt the new company makes pc's not amiga's now
EPIC just dosent do this game justice, i completed it on my A1200 which was running though my hi-fi on a philips monitor. AWESOME and grounbreaking for the era. All team 17 do these days is b****y worms games. why cant they release special editions of their game on xbox live or the playstation network?
@Pitereczek100 It indeed had, the plastic was of a complete different variety than used in today's PCs, giving off a characteristic fine bouquet especially when switched on.
@Pitereczek100 everything was more intensive these days, when you were young. it's not magic of amiga, its magic of childhood. but regardless, the music is still awesome! i'll be playing it to my grandsons :)

"thankyou mine!" oh yeah i'll post up a accapella thats on a doug laurent 12" its about the turrican
I remember watching this demo in my local computer shop in the early 90's. But it wasn't the game I was interested in, it was this absolutely amazing soundtrack that was blasting out of the speakers!. I must have paced up and down for ages, listening to it again and again. Was one of the reasons why I got an Amiga!.
i remmeber this goes next to r-type2 and xenon 2 was best played with a sega megadrive pad for the extra button functions heh as it was tricky with a one button and keyboard and yes the pad was compatible :)
