they should have had a satellite defense system in place with Asgard beam weapons as well as ground to air beam weapons on the surface to protect the facility..the USS George Hammond should have been able to blast those Lucian Alliance Ha'tak ships into very small pieces with it's beam weapons

The Energy for the Gate came from the currently blowing up planets core. Without a core no Fire throug the gate. The top of the fireball and the blast still came thru.

You know I've always wondered why Earth didn't just build a satellite with sensors an asgard beaming instead of using the ships in orbit... that way they would not be dependant on a ship in orbit to go places around earth.

Lol I find it really convenient that the Hammond didn't use its Asgard Beams. The weapon must've been ready by then. In the Series Finale of Stargate Atlantis, the Hammond was already weapons capable. Even the shields on the Hammond were a disappointment. By the end of the battle, the ship looked like it just took on 3 Ori Motherships.

I expect the Asgard beams were off line or had yet to be installed. It is a common plot element used by many sci fi story writers with uber ships facing not so strong ones. Just like Atlantis 5x01 when the Daedalus had to lower it's shields to beam up two personell and recieve jumpers even though we've seen it beaming through it's shields and launching fighters while the shields were raised many times before.

@Generalkidd I looked that up once, they don't fully equip the Daedulus class ships with ALL weapons when they roll them out. What they do is they build the ship and when it is ready to fly and has the most basic defense ready, they let it go. The Asgard weapons are installed LATER. I know, weird but that is how they do it.
