  • This man is amazing! I have never seen a Dr explain addiction like Dr Gabor Mate.

  • This is one thing that you'll NEVER see during the 2012 election.

  • He makes it so clear that abuse during upbringing leads to pain that never heals, causing addiction to killing pain. He's scientifically brilliant, yet believes compassion is the cure. Thanks for posting this.

  • very well noted about war-vets....i think the figure is close to 80% of the homless in the uk are ex-army vets. used and abused then left to rot! its a recurring theme

  • We are being controlled by the least humane among us. If our political leaders had half the capacity for human empathy that Dr. Gabor Mate has, I think we'd notice a significant decline in drug addiction.

  • Dr.Mate has fans here in Brazil.

  • and more people will marry and believe in love because it releases the endorphins in the brain to give them that feel good sensation people need to read more books sciencebooks that is it gives some kind of pleasure

  • Thank you for posting this down to earth accomplished and brilliant doctor's video.

I really appreciate his wonderful work. I agree when he says that what addicts need are for people to show compassion, without judgement, in a supportive environment . God bless you!

  • He has a lot larger and comprehensive understanding of addiction than most of our so-called drug addicts.

  • Those who support the illegality of drugs are directly supporting organized crime, terrorism, police and political corruption, funding clandestine military operation along with attacking those suffering from pain and addiction. The only way to stop the criminality is to legalize, regulate (like alcohol and tobacco), tax and treat.

  • A healer among doctors! A rarity, and most welcome.

  • At the start when he says 'ten bock radius/area' what does this term suggest? what is the equation/fraction there?

  • this is a great interview, thanks stef! very enlightening and empowering! dr gabor mate's audio was a bit hard to hear though...

  • Like to pass on my thanks to

talkingsticktv and the speaker Gabor Mate.

  • I grew up with a very loving and brilliant mother, but she was also an addict. She ran into the law on two occasions and her response from both of those situations was shame, humiliation, powerlessness - all of which fed her addiction even more!

I would never consider my mother a criminal or any of the other insulting stereotypes thrown at addicts.

My mother was a beautiful human being in need of a solution that she couldn't bring herself to fully realize, without the support she needed.

  • I very much agree with this fellow's definition of addiction.

  • listen, learn & forgive ~*

  • This man is brilliant ! It is wonderful to see some light in the fog of insanity. Addiction is not a choice. The war on drugs is a war on people that have an illness.I am buying his book and recommending it unread to every one I know that need this kind of perspective. We could clear half our prison population is the powers that be understood the solution and quit punishing people because they have an illness. The Netherlands are a great role model . Their system is working.. Thank you DR. Mate
