  • I almost teared up when I saw that 58 Ford, or was it a 59. Wonderful video!!!

  • truly enjoyed the video. I just happened by it because it is on my favorite list of songs. I am a fifties girl, what a nice tribute.

  • Raised on this stuff, enjoyed it on the Urban Cowboy era, now for personal pleasure 54 years and counting<3

  • love the song the oldies are the best am i right?

  • love the song the oldies are the best of the best.

  • FANTASTIC SONG,

  • Honest sexy Asian brides "busizz4me.info"

  • Such a loving family video with a great tune.

  • This tune is so haunting. I must have repeated it something like 50 times. I never heard it before. I can't get it out of my head and I wasn't even born when it was made. Great stuff, and nice vid.

  • @mrtomkoz Here's a shocker for you - Ray Conniff, perceived as an elevator music guy, was the arranger & conductor on this 1957 song! The voice is Marty Robbins, but the SOUND of this song, why it stuck in your head -THAT"S Ray Conniff. As the youngsters say, he was a BEAST!

In the early '50s, Conniff stripped #1 songs down to their DNA - he knew what the parts were that made a hit song. Columbia hired him in 1955 to create hits, and he did, for Johnny Mathis & Guy Mitchell too!

  • very nicely done

  • At my 50th HS reunion last Oct, they played this while showing pics of the prom. Everyone started humming along to themselves, but the collective effect was absolutely electrifying.

  • @steveknows62 You have Ray Conniff to thank for that electrifying effect (see my other comment on this video) at your reunion! Marty sang the song, but it was Conniff who set the mood, created the 'feel' of this song. Ray Conniff is one of the most unheralded masters of American Music.

Marty's 'The Story of My Life' was also scored & conducted by Conniff, but get THIS: THAT song was the first that Burt Bacharach & Hal David wrote together! Ray Conniff scored the first song by Bacharach & David!

  • This video really makes my day. I LOVE IT and what a great tribute to your grandparents. Back in those days, everything was so much different than nowadays. The moral fiber of this country has gone to pieces. I can't imagine many young people today who would appreciate a video like this, a song like this and the era it comes out of. Great post!

  • This takes me back to my days of lying on the beach with my transistor radio

on Georgian Bay in Ontario and I guess you could say rhapsodizing to these sounds. Beautiful singer songwriter Marty Robbins RIP, like the beautiful arranger

    of this tune Ray Coniff.

  • Nice post. Hope your folks are still living life to the fullest.

  • As long as the music plays, your folks will always live, in spirit, in the heart and in the memory of all those who have ever loved...What a beautiful tribute to lovely people. Pls. keep them always in mind; I am certain they are smiling down at you from Heaven. Thanks again!

  • Marty robbins is the man ..awesome

  • I think this was a great video! Thanks for posting....brings back the days.

  • Thank you for sharing this family album...the song makes it all the more a tug of the heart cuz of my Grandparents and my memories of them...thanks again.

  • Classic song fond memories for me.

  • I was 14 living in Argentina and we dance at the parties with him

  • Good ole days

  • another SUPERCLASSIC c+w standard from Marty. this is the original and the DEFINITIVE version of this masterpiece. Brad Savage ---

  • Bravo! I don't know your folks, but a happy couple is a happy couple. Thanks for sharing this for us all. Many more happy years to them :)

  • i love this song =) <3

  • Unpretentious, wonderful viewing!

    Timeless classic tune! Thanks

    for sharing!

  • This was originally Robbins signature song!

  • This song was all the rage in '57, when I graduated h.s. Unfortunately, or not, I missed graduation ceremonies. Was in hospital with the same problem that made Rush Limbaugh "miss" the military

service (poor baby!), a pilonoidal cyst excision. Had to have it removed, again, in AF. What fun! They used local anes-

thetic. Not bad. Spinal tap, 1st time, gave me headaches 2 wks., when sitting/stan-

ding. Rough! BTW, Marty's great, as usual. Conniff, too.

  • this song makes my hair curl at the back of my neck!!!!

  • The guitar on this song is tremendous. It transforms a pop song into a classic.

    MP

  • whos singing

  • @JERE29MAD I don't know the picker's name, but Marty was backed by the legendary Ray Conniff, his orchestra and singers. Conniff was one of the greatest arrangers ever and each song he backed up was usually a hit. Some of them are "Singin' the Blues" by Guy Mitchell, "Chances Are" and "It's Not For Me To Say" by Johnny Mathis, "Band of Gold" by Don Cherry the singer and "Just Walkin' In the Rain" by Johnnie Ray. Mitch Miller was the A&R guy for Columbia Records when all of these songs were hits.

  • Marty wrote this song after driving past a high school on his way to perform at a concert and he saw this guy going into the Prom who was alone. Later that night, he wrote this song.

  • Yup, I was kid when this came out...big crossover hit the mid 50's...boy does this bring back memories....

  • Aah memories, I just love this Marty Robbins classic .. Thanks

  • i just love your whole video reminds me of day gone by but not forgotten ..........yes those were the years ....music brings people so close although they will never meet thanks again

  • I was so glad when this song came out. Guy Mitchell was covering all Marty's songs and getting all the pop play. I told a friend, just wait, Marty will be coming out with something real soon that will leave Mitchell in the dust. Soon after I saw this song on the jukebox.

BTW, I do like Guy Mitchell a lot, but not his Marty Robbins covers.

  • Love your Video. Thanks for sharing

  • I can't watch it anymore either...I miss him.

  • @punkrose39 sorry, i know how it feels

  • :-(...

  • Jimmy Buffet names one of his albums "A White Sports Coat and a Pink Crustacean"

  • @mackvandyke: Good memory and story! :)

One of my favorite things about music/songs is that sometimes you can remember specifically where you were at when you heard them (or first heard them, etc..)

Those memories can stick with a person for ages.

  • this was a big hit when I was in high school.

  • Everytime I listen to this song I tear up because my dad played it when we were riding around back in Detroit. My dad as I do love Country music. It would trip me out when I was a kid eeeerrr younger because not alot of black folks listened to country. We did and I thank my dad for it..

    RIP Dad...

  • Nice tribute to your family. Well done!

  • I can't watch this anymore. :'(

  • seriously, you can go fuck yourself. This was their song. Why don't you "get a clue" before you go around knocking everyone else's work.

  • Was popular in 1957 around Graduation time in June..

  • So sweet! I don't even know them and I"m all teary-eyed. They look like awesome people. And I love watching your grandma's fashion through the decades! ;)

  • When I was a teenager, this song was OUR song.

  • What a lucky woman. When I watch this I cry because I dont think I will ever be with the one I love.

  • thats what my dad wanted to bury him in :( so we did with a pink carnation..

  • Beautiful

  • This performance by Marty Robbins is actually the manliest song ever recorded. Makes Steppenwolf and Ted Nugent catamites in comparison.

  • Wow! Catamites. I first saw "catamites" in Ulysses by James Joyce. Great post.

  • Talk about manliest : Marty used to race at Nashville years ago. He just acted like one of the guys, and was a great fella to know.

  • Simply the best !!! This and Don Gibson's SEA OF HEARTBREAK are 2 of my all-time favorites -- lots of good stuff going on in the background.

  • I was 9 when it came out..it was crossover hit..what memories,,,those were the days when the USA was the USA

  • I think this song symbolizes those good and old days of the U.S. His in the 50s and 60s have what latest hits don't have: beautiful melodies.

  • great song and great singer, thanks for posting this.

  • Wonderful song, and wonderful pictures.

  • I doubt there's been a better country voice than Robbins'

  • this is just another example of great old country music that i still enjoy to this day. i rember listening to songs like this. it does remind me of when i was a kid and when this came out, it was durning simpler times. and great times just being a kid, and also it reminds me of fall after noons of just playing in the piles of leaves

  • Well done from Bonnie Scotland.

  • I forgot to mention that white 1959 Ford 2dr hardtop in the video .....another classic from this era of innocence !!!

  • I first heard this song in 1956 when I was 11, Now I'm 64 and it's still one of my favorites And Marty Robbins couldn't have done a better job with it..... A real classic!

  • Here's to "The Greatest Generation" this Nation ever produced ! ... Keep playing them good ol' boy & gal songs! ... Country Songs of America ! ~

  • Espectacular esta versión de Marty Robbins, esta es una pieza preferida de mi época, diría que ya es una reliquia. He soñado bailando esta pieza esquisita, que me trae muchos recuerdos.

  • god fucking stop it !!! go argue someplace else you idiots

  • Who is Garth Brooks?????

  • @Labaron26 I'll admit, Garth Brooks was my childhood hero, but I will always have a special place in my heart for classic country music. The Possum (George Jones), The Red Headed Stranger (Willie), The Voice (Vern Gosden), The Hillbilly Cat (Elvis), Conway & Loretta, The Man In Black, Charley Pride, Charley Walker, Red Sovine, Grandpa Jones, Little Jimmy Dickens, ect..

  • bst song man i give my regareds to your grandparents ok if you are just going to make fun of some one just stay off your just mad that your not as famous as garth brooks

  • Love this song! Marty Robbins, Hank Williams, Jimmy Dean, and Johnny Cash Rule! Garth Brooks SUCKS DICK!!!

  • great vid bro

  • ..WELL I must admit to myself...To ME,this is

..the REAL Heartland of RED,White and Blue...

..People like this are far gone from the scene now...Too sad...IT reminds me of my own

..childhood growing up in Texas in the 50's..

...People back then were REAL...I miss it...

  • They played this @ my grandparent's anniversary party 2 years ago:)

  • Marty is way out of C&W and into pop on this one. Employing the "sound" of '58. It paid off because this was a big hit competing against Elvis, Ricky Nelson and all the reigning gods of the period.

  • Talk about Pure/Simple and lots of class.Great recording sound as well. This comes from a very loud rock guitar player. You just have to tip your hat with respect to an artist like this.I just love this pure sound and song as well.

  • What a great video! Thank you for the memories.

  • What a wonderful tribute to your parents! THEIR generation really meant "for better or worse", dug in their heels in the rough times and worked to make their marriages last. You can't say that about MY generation of forty-somethings. Bunch of whiney slackers.

  • Outstanding. I love looking at old photos and you've got all the best parts of a shared life right here in this beautiful video. And I want that old Willy's jeep!

  • Oh what beautiful memories this video brings back to me. You guys are great. And i love this song. Happy Days again. Best wishes from Shar.

  • im 15 in 1 day and i love clasic and modern county (no chick songs)in fact my favourate singer is the immortal johnny cash

  • If you lived around wear I live, people would recognize you for liking this music. With an exception of a few.

  • Funny...when I WAS 14, I liked stuff like this, but couldn't admit it (at the risk of not being "cool"! [lol!]). Now, at 45, I can like what I want, no matter who cares! I love the "bum-bum" background vocals; sounds like the guy is under water!

  • You know what i am 14 and I love Marty!!!And some of Johnny Horton.....And bobby bare

  • nah you've got taste

  • Great!! Congratulations indeed!! Thanks for sharing the video too. Cheers! :)

  • coo,. pix tnx

  • 0:49 thats a real cowboy!

  • No it doesn't I'm also 14 and love this song along with Frank Sintra,Lou Monte,etc....

  • Mind my spelling, I meant exception of a few 60 and 70s songs.

  • No, That does not mean your weird, but infact, very normal! I wish more of the younger generation would appreciate the older music instead of the stuff they have now! I know times have changed but the older music did not promote violence and drugs with the acception of a few 60s and 70s songs talking about drugs.

  • I grew up listening to the music of my parents' generation and this song is one of my favorites! The more I listen to their music, the more I think I should have lived during their heyday. The music of my day pales in comparison.

  • This song brings back many memories to me!

  • Great song by the great Marty Robbins, and a fantastic video, i have it stored in my favourites and listen to it all the time. Thankyou for posting.

  • Great song and great pictures! Thanks for sharing them.

  • Great clip. Thanks. My father passed away in 1984. He loved Marty Robbins' music. Before he passed, he listened to it every day. Now, when I hear it, it literally takes me back there and it feels good, like he's sitting right next to me, singing. It may sound stupid but I love to sing too and some how it makes me feel closer to him. I miss him.

  • Thank you for the memories, hope this music lives on forever!!!!

  • So much fun. Thanks and all the very best, BY

  • 1 of my all time favorites! Thanks for the posting.... good stuff!

  • Thats be berrywoman im a real charmer.:-)

  • ..I can picture...my gramma Beatrice...dancing around the kitchen...with a huge smile...and it makes me cry...to think how many times...my grandfather beat her to a pulp...but she just kept on smiling...you were all class gramma...you are sorely missed so often...P.S. the lilacs are still there...love, your lil' Mikey...

  • Chokes me up to see the love and the obvious appreciation you have for your grandparents. Fabulous job.
