The only reason Egypt'sgoverment didn't condemn the attacks on Gaza by the Israelis is the fact that Egypt's dictator Mubarack was being paid $1 billion of American tax payers money.
The people of Egypt did condemn the attacks but could do little under a dictatorship.
Now it seems that America is losing it's friendly dictators due to the Arab revolutions sweeping the region and suddenly the American gov is not so keen that the Arabs have democracy because they cannot be bought off or manipulated
Israel and it's cronies in the West stand exposed as the liars and war criminals they are. Who has killed more people in this century than the USA and Israel? Who else can getaway with murder on the high seas? Nine dead. Hamas is the elected leaders of the people. Won fair and square on an anti-corruption ticket. Remember the USS Liberty! BDS Israel!
fuck all debates!!!! you can't claim the ownership of a land based on a book that says the earth is flat and it doesn't move!!!! fuck all motherfuckers that kiss israel's stinky ass!!!
Okay, someone is going to have to explain to me what was even slightly "zionist" about that piece. I tend to be regarded as pretty "pro-palestinian" and that just seemed like a relatively accurate account of the facts of the situation. Why are so many comments talking about this as though it's a drum-call for Israel?
It's funny how the history of Israel on the show started, apparently, in 1948. I'm pretty sure there were some crucial events that occurred before that. If we want to be honest, we really should look back and see the way Palestinian sovereignty was stepped on first by the British and then the UN. I just think there could have been a better way to set up a Jewish state that would have saved us a world of hurt.
@mapleoreocookie the british were not the first to stomp on arab sovereignty. The ottoman empire that occupied the entire arab world for hundreds of years did more to stoke arab nationalism than anything any Europeans ever did. Look at the history of arab-islamic society. It is not libral, it is not pluralistic, it is not tolerant. This is why a jewish homeland in the land of israel was always going to be difficult, but even more necessary.
Obadiah foretold of how when Jesus comes, the Jews will defeat the Palestinians and Esau's descendants will be as if they had never been a people (Obadiah 15-18). I must remind you that as you watch this Israeli-Palestinian conflict continue, Bible prophecy will indeed be fulfilled.
People are shocked to hear Hamas wants the destruction of Israel. How come people do not share the same outrage when Zionism going back to the 1890's, wanted the murder or expulsion of the rightful Arab land owners prior to 1948? Seems like a HUGE double standard to me
@KyoNingyo wrong! For better or for worse, early zionism had almost no consideration for arabs in israel/palestine. They thought the arabs would enjoy the new prosperity and business opportunities. When jews from europe and the arab world came back to israel, it wasnt like when the spanish landed on cuba...as you seem to think.
@Isrealit360 I take a slightly different stand than KyoNingyo on hypocritical positions on Hamas. I wonder why people instantly side with Israel and condemn Hamas for using terrorism as the chief means to a political end, i.e., ending the occupation (the entire land of Palestine). Meanwhile the early Zionists (Irgun, Stern and Haganah) actually introduced modern terrorism to this region, i.e., the bombing of the King David Hotel to end what they saw as British occupation of the land.
@steute2011 Neither of thoes groups introduced "modern terrorism" to the region. You only have to look at the "arab revolt" of the 1930's use of IED's, train bombs, and night raids on civilian targets to see who bore middle east terrorism. The King david hotel was also the declared military command center of the british mandate force in palistine making it an acceptable military target. not that i agree with the tactic.
@Isrealit360 Calling the King David Hotel a military target, is like calling the Knesset a military target! You missed the point...There is a direct correlation between the reason for the Hamas terrorism and the early Zionist terrorism, i.e., ending occupation.
@steute2011 You are also im sure unaware of the very public purge that the newly formed IDF conducted of irgun (and the like) type groups who were against the ceasefire in 1948. To the point where less than a decade after 1948 Israel had one sovereign military accountable to its people and government. None of these things have happened or exist within palastinian society since the oslo accord that created the PA, and it doesn't look close either. Do your homework!
@Isrealit360 Well I will tell you what did happen. The leader of the terrorist Irgun, Menachum Begin (not purged) went on to become the 6th PM of Israel, much like Hamas went on to become the elected governing body of the Palestinian people. How's that for "home work"?
@steute2011 absolutely! Begin (having taken an oath to represent the people of israel of all sectors) was sworn in as PM. The difference is hamas went on to murder their PALESTINIAN political opponents the moment they saw fit. And have subsequently waged a war of attrition against its nieghbor (israel). Begin did none of thoes things. In fact he made peace with israels most bitter enemy at the time, egypt, that holds to this day. overall your homework gets a C- and thats being generous.
@Isrealit360 How he and Hamas ran their perspective governments is irrelevant to the fact that Menachem Begin used terrorism to end the perceived British occupation and subsequently elected as PM, in much the same way that Hamas used / uses terrorism to end what they perceive to be Zionist occupation and were subsequently elected to govern the Palestinians. You get an F on ability to draw direct correlations.
@steute2011 You are drawing an imaginary correlation. The hamas mission statment is to vanquish all jews from "palestine" irrespective of position or status. They intentionally murder civilians in cold blood to achieve this end. This is terrorism! The Irgun mission statement is the jabotinsky theory of " every Jew had the right to enter Palestine; only active retaliation would deter the Arabs; only Jewish armed force would ensure the Jewish state" Defensive and reactionary in nature. not terror
@Isrealit360 I realize that the mere thought that a Zionist could be a terrorist, is difficult enough for you, but to think that a former Israeli PM could be a terrorist by definition is a reality you obviously will not accept. I completely understand. However, I will tell you that denial of factual events will only hurt your creditability in any honest debate.
Israel faces, eh gads, a handful of uncoordinated criminals... and it faces them with mechanized warfare... the death toll is 7:1 (Arab deaths over Israeli deaths)
@Craigipedia You're a filthy liar; Israel has killed 50,000 Arabs since 1950; the Arabs have killed 16,000 Israelis over the same period and considering how much smaller Israel is, that's a frightening ratio.
Meanwhile since 1950, 10million Muslims have died by killing each other.
You had a lot of characters left; you could have given us something to Google.
“Israel wants to make it clear to the government of Egypt that it has no aggressive intentions whatsoever against any Arab state at all” - Israel’s Prime Minister Levi Eshkol
On May 30, 1967, Cairo Radio : “Israel has two choices, both of which are drenched with Israeli blood: Either it will be strangled by the Arab military, or it will be killed by the bullets of the Arab armies surrounding it from the south, north and east.”
"We shall not enter Palestine with its soil covered in sand, we shall enter it with its soil saturated in blood" - President of Egypt, Gamal Abdel Nasser
May 15, 1967
“Israel wants to make it clear to the government of Egypt that it has no aggressive intentions whatsoever against any Arab state at all” - Israel’s Prime Minister Levi Eshkol
90% of the people in Israel are not Jews nor Semitic. They may call themselves Zionist, but they are not the Jew. One must be born a Jew! Those who occupy Israel are from the Synagog's of Satan, and they rule over the USA. It was already written before it happen. ONE MUST BE BORN A JEW! THESE PEOPLE DON'T EVEN LOOK SEMITIC. THEY ARE THE FALSE JEW! THEY HAVE NO TRIBAL SEED! Zionist caused 9/11, and the Official Story is nothing but a cover-up. THE USA IS BEING FUCKED OVER LIKE GERMANY!
It would be a lot easier if Israel simply obeyed UN SC Res. 242 (Israel needs to remove all its people, military and civilian from the West Bank, Gaza, and the Golan Heights), and all the other humanitarian/international laws that it has violated daily for 60 years.
.
Why can't Israelis just stay in their prosperous country and let other people live at peace in their lands? So long as Israel occupies and violates others BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS, there will be conflict.
@SunnySide247 It would be a lot easier if Arab countries just obeyed UN Resolution 181 Recognizing the state of Israel, and UN Resolution calling the Arab league to recognize Israel's independence.
I don't understand what she means by "war" against the Palestinians..Palestinians don't have anti air missle defense, tanks, helicopters and so on. they have assult rifles and rpg (rocket propelled granade). Israel attacks in Gaza with F16, M1 tanks, black hawk helicopters, night visions, navy ships with city as Rachel said twice as Washington DC.
English is my third language, but I call that an assault, NOT a war.
And wow! this tool who got invited to speak apparently has spent lot of time in Gaza, and came up with the conclusion its very densely populated, but never did the idea go thru his mind that this was a huge refugee camp. If he has indeed gone to Gaza how does he sleep at night after hiding the truth abt Gaza ?
Going back to the time, its so horrible to watch this video being aired at primetime being fed to americans who dont know any better, and convincing them of this version of this highly edited story, while the american ppl who are the only ppl who potentially could have rallied enough to prevent US from helping Israel do this to the palestinians who ve been occupied for decades now,
Telling americans the wrong info to gain their support in the atrocities, horrible..
Rachel, ur script is missing the bit about how Israel landed there on the neck of the palestinians. But didnt miss a single point about how its so 'bravely' sitting in the middle of all the countries (none of whose govts said that Israel has no right to exist, except maybe in Iran and Libya) there are so many powerful dictators setup in that region all in alliance with US so that no one brings any trouble to Israel while its stomping down on the pals face.. K, Rachel, this is the bit u forgot
Maddow is associate with the Left, which supports the idea of the destruction of Israel - mainly on the grounds that it is a US ally, although other reasons are ususally cited. But apparently this isn't enough for fundamentalist Muslim activists, who will settle for nothing less than the extermination of all Jews in the Middle East - and that is only considered a first step.
We Armenians already know how far the Muslims will go to keep their slaves down. So good luck to the Israelis.
How's getting the Turks to recognized the mass genocide they inflicted on your people going? Oh wait, it's not going anywhere. Israel supports the historic revisionism of your peoples' past by the way.
@lalilul3lo I proudly participated in a US-led NATO operation to stop the genocide of Muslims in Bosnia. Do you think that baiting me about Israel's views regarding the Armenian genocide is going to get me to agree that they should be genocided?
At least the Muslim fundamentalists have an excuse. Anti-Semitism is enshrined in their holy book, and xenophobic violence is practically a sacrament for them. But the Leftists simply use Muslim anti-Semitism to forward their own anti-US agenda.
@DrCruel The government of Turkey emphatically denies the existence of the Armenian genocide, despite overwhelming evidence, arguing that it was a 'war'. Israel supports its ally's stance, lobbying with Turkey to prevent the genocide being mentioned in US textbooks. Isn't it the biggest insult yet that the state of Israel, built on the memory of the Holocaust, denies the genocide of other peoples because of political capital?
I bet your butchered ancestors are spinning in their mass graves.
@lalilul3lo The one ancestor of mine I talked to this about wanted me to promise that I'd kill Turks when I grew up. Instead - irony of ironies - I worked with the Turkish Army to stop a genocide instead.
I don't have much of a problem with Israelis. I rather like them. It's Leftists, who tend to commit genocides as a matter of policy, that I find absolutely infuriating. If there ever was a group worthy of extermination, it's that vile and contemptible lot. You haven't convinced me otherwise.
“All of the Palestinians must be killed; men, women, infants, and even their beasts” cries the religious opinion of Rabbi Yisrael Rosen, the director of the long-established Tsomet Religious Institute. He wrote that Palestinians are like the nation of Amalekites, who attacked the Israelite tribes led by Moses on their way to Jerusalem. He stated that the Lord sent down in the Torah a ruling that allowed the Jews to kill the Amalekites, and that this ruling is known in Jewish jurisprudence.
Ah yes rachel the new neoliberal maddow who believes in human rights for all except palestinians and muslims. She fails in so many parts here but especially on the part were israel set up hamas.
Apart from the pointless bitch-swipe at Bush, that was actually quite a good, informative and balanced piece from Rachel Maddow. If only the left wing-media could do this more often.
"A day after the state of Israel was created it was attacked"? Uh could that be because Israeli militia had spent the previous 20 years carrying out massacres on Palestinian villages - killing tens of thousands of civilians - and stealing Palestinian properties and land? Could it be because the state of Israel was established in Palestine against the will of the people?
No wonder Americans support terrorist Israel if this is an example of the propaganda they are being fed by the US media.
There is no comparison. In the first place America is a huge continent which was inhabited by just a few million native Indians. The first European settlers arrived in the 1600s, long before international laws and treaties existed. In those days it was normal for territories to be taken by force. Palestine was taken over by Zionists in the 20th century. The Palestinians whose homes and lands were seized by Zionist forces were, and still are, the legal owners of their homes.
You're a Liar. I never said that all those countries recognized Israel. How much is the Hasbara paying you to lie? Everyone can read the comments and what I said. i said that Egyp, Jordan, Syria, and the PA recognized Israel as a state. I was only wrong about Syria according to your link. You said "none" of Israel's neighbors recognize its existence. That by your own link is false and it is more false than what I said because there is at least three of its neighbors that do. moron got caught.
Anyone who thinks Israel attacked all of it's neighbors the day after it's independence is an idiot. Obviously they all attacked Israel. Israel did what anyone would do, defend itself. That is what they have been doing ever since.
How very wrong. Rachel is an ass clown for Israel, who knew? She is doing what ever other US reporter does, leave out major pieces of the story. Perhaps Maddows feels differently after reading the Goldstone report?
@IBeatUpThugs you're a moron. Jordan, Syria, Egypt and The Palestinian Authority in the West Bank all recognize Israel's right to exist and have done so for 30-50 years. You're as stupid and brainwashed as Maddow.
From wikipedia worlds most accurate encylopedia...
The following 19 UN member states do not recognize Israel as a state:[12] Afghanistan,[13] Algeria,[14] Bahrain[15] Bangladesh,[16] Chad,[17] Cuba, Indonesia, Iran[18] Iraq,[19] Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya,[20] North Korea, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria,[21] United Arab Emirates[22] and Yemen.
PA obviously doesn't they refused to just a few weeks ago even.
@IBeatUpThugs Moron, Jordan, Egypt and the Palestinian authority according to your own wiki link says they do recognize Israel. I only got Syria wrong. You on the other hand, got all the rest wrong. You're more wrong in this case. You need to deal with that much as Rachel Maddow needs to deal that fact. Reality, deal with it.
@IBeatUpThugs LOL. You said all of Israel's neighbors recognize their existence. And the only ones who pretend to hate Israel and constantly attack it in the UN anyway. Egypt only pretends to because of the US and shits on Israel all the time anyway. Israel is not even allowed in their regional bloc in the UN. The Palestinians all lie anyway, pretend to recognize Israel then turn around the next day on Muslim TV saying they were only lying and will take over Israel piece by piece.
@IBeatUpThugs Idiot, you said non of Israel's neighbors recognize Israel's right to exist. Most of them do even according to your own link. End of story. Stop your zionist lies.
@thewiffenpoof We can see the liar. You said "every single one of israel's arab neighbors recognize its existence." Lebanonn, Syria, Gaza, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, (Yemen, UAE, if you consider those neighbors) all do not. And the PA does not recognize Israel as a Jewish state. What that means is they demand a right for millions of Arabs to move into Israel making it majority Muslim. Thats far cry from recognizing Israels right to exist. Everyone knows EVERY Arab state is itching to end Israel.
Why this eternal strife about history when it's bias?
Why not expalin why IDF used women and children for target practice?
It was a dispromortioned reaction. Israel is continuing to build, and suååress Palestinians on their own land. By Israelis extremists. You really think that it goes only one way here?
Israel is de facto a conquest the same way as Europeans conquered America. And the arms industry makes a huge killing. Literally...
IF THERE IS TO BE PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST, THE ARABS MUST END THEIR RACIST AGGRESSION AGAINST THE JEWS. THEY MUST ACKNOWLEDGE THE CRIMES THEY HAVE COMMITTED AGAINST THE JEWISH PEOPLE. THEY MUST APOLOGIZE FOR THOSE CRIMES AND PAY REPARATIONS
Oh, OK, so she didn't even know that Fatah and Hamas were opposed, let alone that there've been a bloody civil war between them, in part instigated by the US.
All is forgiven, Rach. For a moment there I thought you had half a brain. My bad.
@28g34ajbsd Yes, the US HAS to instigate a bloody civil war between Fatah and Hamas, after all these are Muslims and/or Arabs and we all know that whenever Muslims behave this way, it is only at the instigation of the US; they can never come to these conclusions by themselves.
28g34ajbsd, in the United States, we call a promulgation of this attitude "Country Club Racism."
That Hamas has thrown over 800 people offa rooftops in Gaza is also the fault of the US? According to you it would seem so
Rachel, come on, 4 minutes in, and not a mention of the occupation? Not talking about land at all? It is less informative to have various hot wars enumerated than saying anything about a broader context of the conflict---and since Rachel framed it into this hilarious "Israel surrounded by Arab countries some of which don't even think it has a right to exist!" piece of Unspeak, I know she's capable of context.
Is there absolutely not one liberal on cable to poke Israel with a criticism or two?
The so call rockets are mostly false flag attacks by Israelis to justify genocide...you have to be mental or lying to say otherwise...Those people dont have any water but they can make `bombs`that are a threat for Israelis...come on if they absolutly want to make something up to justify their inhumanity they could atleast come up with something that is a bit believable that would be abit less insulting
@WinkyMaeve They are a lot of things, but not mindless. The Saudis could give a shit, and Mubarak simply has no use for the Palestinians. Now if these countries were democracies, one could speculate that the people's concerns would account for a change in policy. However, the US is a democracy, yet even Rachel Maddow sounds like Tom Regev. And the scandalous NBC ME analyst was saying something about 'ignorance'?
Actually, what I made in the driveway is the same stuff they use to propel the Qassam rockets. It's just a mixture of saltpeter and sugar. If you want real gunpowder, you use charcoal and sulfur instead of sugar.
@OneEyedJack1970 Truth be told after the fact, there was one Israeli house "nearly demolished" while about 4,000 Palestinian houses were destroyed. If the Palestinian rockets have any effect, it is anticipatory terror by possible victims, casualties not so much. That's why every AIPAC pundit has to talk about "thousands of rockets," never about comparative victims, let alone the occupation.. Body count is just sad, but terrorism is much sexier, leaving one with righteous, inspirational, rage.
@28g34ajbsd Arabs have colonized the region starting in 638 AD.
Jews, Chaldeans, Assyrians, Berbers and Copts don't need Arab colonialism.
Also, you know NOTHING about Zionism; you just repeat crap that you "heard" somewhere; you've personally made NO effort to learn anything; Zionism is a secular movement that largely was part 'n' parcel of early European socialism, you idiot.
You can make explosives in a simple workshop -- hell, I've made gunpowder in my driveway (my dad wouldn't let me make it in the house). However, at your suggestion, I've done some research, and I've learned that not only do these rockets have explosive warheads, I know what kind of explosives are used. Urea nitrate (which is rather easy to make) and scavenged TNT are the most common payloads.
Basically, you're full of shit, just like I said before.
bais and zionist rachel maddow distort the truth and when she mentioned the palestinian rockets, she showed a footage of israeli buildings destroyed but in fact they were palestinian buildings 02:40, she could not find any footage of destroyed israeli buildings because the rockets do not have explosive heads and can only kill you if they land on you unlike the weapons the israelis use like white phosphorous and other illegal weapons mostly supplied by america.
Nice ommission there from Mr Engel: "millions of people in Egypt who are horrified and want to act by what is going on in Gaza but the leadershit in Cairo [doesn't want to act]" Jeez, Mr Engel, perhaps that has something to do with the fact that that leadership is a dictatorial one, one supported by the West, particularly by the US, because thus it enables them to protect their Israeli ally. Same goes for Saudi Arabia. One cannot compare the Arab World with the West bc 90% is not even democratic
This conflict has killed 46,000 people since 1950; it actually ranks down pretty low on the scale of conflicts.
India and China don't understand the fascination what is in reality, a very small conflict.
However, here in The West, the fascination with this subject is apparent, mostly egged on by the latent anti-Semitism of those who obviously hate Jews.
@SatchmoSings It's more to do with the injustice of ethnic cleaning of the arab population of Palestine, which Zionists have written out of history, it's about American complicity in the expulsion, transfer and murder of hundreds of thousands of defenseless Arabs; its more to do with the propagation of Zionist myths of David Vs Goliath when Jewish forces have always had greater military and political strength. Typical to bring out the old canard of anti-Semitim in the face of an Arab holocaust.
@huntertristan I made a mistake; this conflict has killed 51,000 since 1950 of which 35,000 are Arab dead; if you remove the 20,000 Arabs Israel killed in the Six Day War that means that Israel has killed 15,000 Arabs since 1950.
15,000 dead Arabs (including the 1956 and 1973 wars) is hardly a "Holocaust."
Additionally, Arab nations have killed a lot more of their own people than Israel has.
Your claims clearly show you to be an anti-Semite.
@SatchmoSings If we follow this logic, the 3000 killed on 9/11 are nothing to raise a fuss about. Surely not worth the death of at least 600,000 in Iraq, say.
@28g34ajbsd You aren't too bright; killing 3000 in one stroke and Arabs and other Muslims killing 600,000 Iraqis in the course of a year or two is simply not the same thing as killing less than a person a day over 62 years.
@huntertristan Perhaps you could show me, in great detail, something to "Google" so I can read, in great detail, the history of the Arabs of Palestine.
Something tells me that should such a site exist, it would be on the level of those doing the most niche graduate work.
@SatchmoSings Why not check out tom segev, benny morris, ilan pappe and the various other (new) Israel scholars who have written extensively about the myths which have propagated the zionist state. Let me guess what's next? They are self-hating jews? How predictable.
@huntertristan You have called Israel killing 36,000 Arabs since 1950 a "Holocaust;" if you take out the 20,000 Arab dead from The Six Day War, this number then falls to 16,000 which also includes the wars of 1956 and 1973.
Now you want me to check out "revisionist" historians; I'm sure you enjoy them and won't quote more legitimate sources.
Thank you for changing the subject on how 36,000 dead Arabs since 1950 constitutes a "Holocaust;" that was only to be expected.
@SatchmoSings "the expulsion, transfer and murder of hundreds of thousands of defenseless Arabs" - that is what i wrote... no need to take it out of context.
as for arabs killing arabs - please illustrate this ten million figure (sources?) and also show me which dictators and regimes out of that figure were installed and supported the the West. Where any from the so-called moderate regimes ie: pro washington.
Revisionist? yeah whatever. Benny Morris is hardly an Arabist.
@huntertristan I didn't say Arabs killing Arabs, moron; get the quote right.
Indeed, your having to twist even basic stuff around such as my very own quotes shows exactly what an intellectual turd you are; this does not at all come as a surprise, by the way.
A fine example of Muslim-on-Muslim violence would be the Iran-Iraq war; please tell me how Ayatollah Khomeni was a proxy of Washington DC, you moron.
@huntertristan The ad-hominem attack was hardly unwarranted; I made the point where it came from and rather than correct yourself the way an HONEST person would have done, you go ahead and attempt to justify your half-truth.
The ad-hominem stands and there is nothing to discuss with you.
@huntertristan Before I give you my source of the 10,000,000 Muslims killed by Muslims since 1960, I want you to show to ME where you got YOUR figures from; Israel killing 36,000 over sixty years (with 20,000 alone accounted for by The Six Day War) is hardly what YOU claimed in your "Holocaust" remark
Typical of what you are; I challenged you on this, gave the REAL figures and you clammed up on this subject rather than educating me about; that's because your claim is just that, a bullshit claim
@huntertristan "Murder of hundreds of thousands of defenseless Arabs"?
By WHOM?
I will answer for you; by other Arabs and or Muslims; the official count is 10,000,000 since 1954 of Muslim-on-Muslim deaths.
I'm sure you will now blame that all on neo-colonialism; the Muslims involved had absolutely no culpability in this, after all, I'm sure you view these people ONLY as the victims of whitey; they are not capable of any choices on their own let alone to be responsible for them.
I love the lies that Zionists constantly trumpet. Here's some reality: Egypt is friends with Israel, Syria wouldn't dare attack Israel, Saudi Arabia have trade deals with them. Israel has the 4th most powerful army in the world. The rabbi associated with the Likud Party called for death to Palestinians. Gaza and The West Bank are literally concentration camps with humiliating Israeli checkpoints in which Palestinian women and children are beaten, raped and spit upon by IDF troops.
Israels is the biggest religious idea in the history... to say that god promised you a land and occupy it on this bases sounds extremely religious to me.
if the us backs the israeli concept then its only legitimizes the AL Qaeda concept of war. ->
Very simple! The Arabs have chosen to opress the wrong group of people. We are not going to be oppressed by you. We will always fight you. We will defeat you. We will occupy you! If you continue to reject peace, you will have war, and you will lose. If you continue to seek the ethnic cleansing of the Jews from Israel, it is you who will be thrown out. Understand?
@Jasob767 They don't want ethnic cleansing, because, in fact, Arabs also have semitic roots, along with Israelis. The thing is, the want them to keep out of their land, which makes sense because a fueling factor that made Israel want their land in the first place was religion, and both parties have different religious views, which causes a huge conflict for all.
This situation will not have a political solution as it is a religious not political problem. It will not stop because the USA funds Israel to the tune of $8,000,000 a day with another 2-3 in support / services.
@SatchmoSings Actually, 7.85 million people in Israel, I counted. It is not money given to the people either. To put it in perspective 2,5000,000,000 people live on less than a dollar a day(Amnesty International). Many in Gaza. As mentioned it is not for the people but for the government to carry on global terrorism. You can build 3 Burj Khalifa with that money and we give it to israel year after after. Jews understand the power of a penny, so does anyone .01 X 1,000,000,000,000 adds up.
So he's calling the Arab people ignorant and their dictators elites. This is bullshit. Most college students and journalists in the Middle East are against Israel and condemn their own leaders.
If Palestinians felt that Israel was founded based on the destruction of their hopses, and the theft of their homes, farms, businesses, ports, banks, ..etc., would it be just to mention the memories of Sabara and Shatila to justify the the carpet bombing of Tel-Aviv?
.. instruct a valiant army facing Berlin where amongst innocent civilians, Hitler and his henchmen hide in a bunker deep beneath the surface. My generation, dear Ron, swore on the alter of God that whoever proclaims his intent to destroy the Jewish state or the Jewish people, or both, seals his fate, so that which happened once on instruction from Berlin---with or without inverted commas--- will never happen again" (Iron Wall, p. 404-405).
When the American President Ronald Reagan threatened to review American-Israeli relations over the indiscriminate carpet bombing of Beirut in 1982, once again the Prime Minister of the "Jewish state" used the Holocaust to clamp down on his critics, Menachem Begin wrote president Reagan: "Now may I tell you, dear Mr. President, how I feel these days when I turn to the creator of my soul in deep gratitude. I feel as a Prime Minister empowered to ...
@CE750 Maddow is not Jewish, and there's nothing wrong with being a lesbian or a feminist. As for defending Israel, there's a blog called Pandagon which consists primarily of feminist bloggers, one of whom is a lesbian, and all of them condemned what Israel did when it attacked Gaza a couple of years ago. I don't know what makes you think that lesbians and feminists are all bloodthirsty ultra-Zionists...not even all Jews defend what Israel does.
@Trustme77 I stand corrected on her religion, or lack there of.. however there IS something wrong with being Lesbian and Feminist, that part I don't back away from, and Israel is very pro both.. Liberal bastion of the Middle East, which is why liberals love it so much.. add to this the Evangelical nut jobs that have an entire theology built on it, and it's no wonder the poor Palestinians (Christians or Muslim) haven't got a prayer...
@CE750 I'm a liberal and I think Israel goes too far. Real liberals are anti-war and against the killing of civilians like I am; anybody who tells you different is full of shit.
@Trustme77 Defending Israel on certain occassions, condemning Hamas, and saying Israel has a right to exist is not equivalent to "bloodthirsty ultra-Zionist" anymore than saying Palestinians deserve their own State is supporting terrorism, except to fanatic ideologues. But, I would suspect, and hope, that feminists and gays would look more kindly on a country, Israel, that gives gays rights rather than the Arab world where homosexuality is punished with the death penalty.
@B21983 Well, think of it this way. I could be the nicest guy in the world 99% of the time, I could rescue animals from shelters, I could donate money to charities, I could volunteer at soup kitchens, I could be a firefighter and save lives...I could do a million good things, but if I one day decided "I'm going to murder somebody" and did so, it would still be wrong. So Israel respecting gay rights more than its neighbours is a good thing, but some of the things it has done are still wrong.
@CE750 Actually, it is. Jewish lesbo feminists are the most enlightened liberals in the US. Jewish lesbo feminists taught me everything I know. Rach here is the exception.
The solution is clear. Israel withdraws to the pre-1967 borders and removes all illegal Jewish settlements from the occupied territories as per international law. Then they can defend their borders.
@badger5079 I support totally what you say - but Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005 and took out every single Jewish settler - it didn't get peace & quiet, it got 8000 missiles and Hamas does not accept UN Resolution 242 or the UN Resolutions in 1947 and they believe Israel should be wiped out and replaced with an Islamic State. It takes two to tango, one party in this relationship is really not interested.
When Isral withdrew its settlers from Gaza, it merely allowed them a free hand to try to crush the people there by more incursions and the inhuman siege which they could not have done while there were Jews there. Sure, Hamas is responsible for attacking Israeli towns with rockets but Israel also is responsible for killing many civilians in its inhuman military assaults upon centres of civilian population while excusing themselves of blame by saying that Hamas uses human shields.
@badger5079 Why is the seige just Israeli? Doesn't Gaza border Egypt? The Egyptians, fellow Arabs, have closed their borders just like Israel has done. I havent seen any protests against Egypt for some reason. The blockade is misguided and ineffective and has done nothing to weaken Hamas' grip on Gaza, but this is hardly a unilateral Israeli action, nor does it seem to be an excuse to sock it to innocent Palestinians since even Egypt clearly has concerns about an Islamist state on their border.
Egypt is run by a corrupt dictatorship which is the second largest recipient of U.S. foreign aid after Israel so it does what the U.S. wants regarding the Palestinians.
@badger5079 Egypt is a corrupt dictatorship no doubt, but it hardly just does whatever the US wants (I didnt know the US was a steadfast supporter of a Gaza blockade). Egypt does have its own concerns and calculations - it didnt support the Iraq war, even though the US launched it - Egypt also has legitimate concerns about a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood controlling the Gaza Strip. Either way its hardly fair to say Israel is THE one laying seige, since Egypt too limits what goes in and out.
@badger5079 I'm afraid tht ur gving the Israeli rightwing xactly what they r looking for. The Israeli right opposed withdrawal from Gaza (and frm Lebanon in 2000) predicting these places wud become bases from which to attack Israel and that whn Israel countered it would b bloody & b subject to criticism - thus continued occupation was the least bad option -if evry time Israel withdrws the Right rather thn the Left is prvn correct - wht hope is there for a tru end to occupation and a Pali State?
@badger5079 I'm afraid tht ur gving the Israeli rightwing xactly what they r looking for. There would be no conflict if Israel obeyed international law. The withdrawal from Gaza only allowed the IDF to kill civilians without fear of killing any Jewish settlers.
@badger5079 Israel certainly must follow international law, but I remind you that international law and UN SC Resolutions recognize the right of Israel, and every other UN-member State, to exist and Art. 51 allows for self-defense (with limits). This is something which Hamas rejects and neither Israel, nor anyone else, is under any obligation to commit suicide. That Hamas are bad people doesnt exonerate all of Israel's faults, but its not quite as simple as you put it above.
Hamas does not recognise the legitimacy of the state of Israel. That is different to accepting the reality of a Jewish state. The IRA did not accept the legitimacy of British occupation in Ireland but this did not prevent them from negotiating in the peace process.

LordProfBear 3 months ago
It's funny how the history of Israel on the show started, apparently, in 1948. I'm pretty sure there were some crucial events that occurred before that. If we want to be honest, we really should look back and see the way Palestinian sovereignty was stepped on first by the British and then the UN. I just think there could have been a better way to set up a Jewish state that would have saved us a world of hurt.
mapleoreocookie 5 months ago
@mapleoreocookie the british were not the first to stomp on arab sovereignty. The ottoman empire that occupied the entire arab world for hundreds of years did more to stoke arab nationalism than anything any Europeans ever did. Look at the history of arab-islamic society. It is not libral, it is not pluralistic, it is not tolerant. This is why a jewish homeland in the land of israel was always going to be difficult, but even more necessary.
Isrealit360 5 months ago
Obadiah foretold of how when Jesus comes, the Jews will defeat the Palestinians and Esau's descendants will be as if they had never been a people (Obadiah 15-18). I must remind you that as you watch this Israeli-Palestinian conflict continue, Bible prophecy will indeed be fulfilled.

People are shocked to hear Hamas wants the destruction of Israel. How come people do not share the same outrage when Zionism going back to the 1890's, wanted the murder or expulsion of the rightful Arab land owners prior to 1948? Seems like a HUGE double standard to me
KyoNingyo 7 months ago
@KyoNingyo wrong! For better or for worse, early zionism had almost no consideration for arabs in israel/palestine. They thought the arabs would enjoy the new prosperity and business opportunities. When jews from europe and the arab world came back to israel, it wasnt like when the spanish landed on cuba...as you seem to think.
Isrealit360 6 months ago
@Isrealit360 I take a slightly different stand than KyoNingyo on hypocritical positions on Hamas. I wonder why people instantly side with Israel and condemn Hamas for using terrorism as the chief means to a political end, i.e., ending the occupation (the entire land of Palestine). Meanwhile the early Zionists (Irgun, Stern and Haganah) actually introduced modern terrorism to this region, i.e., the bombing of the King David Hotel to end what they saw as British occupation of the land.
steute2011 5 months ago
@steute2011 Neither of thoes groups introduced "modern terrorism" to the region. You only have to look at the "arab revolt" of the 1930's use of IED's, train bombs, and night raids on civilian targets to see who bore middle east terrorism. The King david hotel was also the declared military command center of the british mandate force in palistine making it an acceptable military target. not that i agree with the tactic.
Isrealit360 5 months ago 2
@Isrealit360 Calling the King David Hotel a military target, is like calling the Knesset a military target! You missed the point...There is a direct correlation between the reason for the Hamas terrorism and the early Zionist terrorism, i.e., ending occupation.
steute2011 5 months ago
@steute2011 You are also im sure unaware of the very public purge that the newly formed IDF conducted of irgun (and the like) type groups who were against the ceasefire in 1948. To the point where less than a decade after 1948 Israel had one sovereign military accountable to its people and government. None of these things have happened or exist within palastinian society since the oslo accord that created the PA, and it doesn't look close either. Do your homework!
Isrealit360 5 months ago
@Isrealit360 Well I will tell you what did happen. The leader of the terrorist Irgun, Menachum Begin (not purged) went on to become the 6th PM of Israel, much like Hamas went on to become the elected governing body of the Palestinian people. How's that for "home work"?
steute2011 5 months ago
@steute2011 absolutely! Begin (having taken an oath to represent the people of israel of all sectors) was sworn in as PM. The difference is hamas went on to murder their PALESTINIAN political opponents the moment they saw fit. And have subsequently waged a war of attrition against its nieghbor (israel). Begin did none of thoes things. In fact he made peace with israels most bitter enemy at the time, egypt, that holds to this day. overall your homework gets a C- and thats being generous.
Isrealit360 5 months ago
@Isrealit360 How he and Hamas ran their perspective governments is irrelevant to the fact that Menachem Begin used terrorism to end the perceived British occupation and subsequently elected as PM, in much the same way that Hamas used / uses terrorism to end what they perceive to be Zionist occupation and were subsequently elected to govern the Palestinians. You get an F on ability to draw direct correlations.
steute2011 5 months ago
@steute2011 You are drawing an imaginary correlation. The hamas mission statment is to vanquish all jews from "palestine" irrespective of position or status. They intentionally murder civilians in cold blood to achieve this end. This is terrorism! The Irgun mission statement is the jabotinsky theory of " every Jew had the right to enter Palestine; only active retaliation would deter the Arabs; only Jewish armed force would ensure the Jewish state" Defensive and reactionary in nature. not terror
Isrealit360 5 months ago
@Isrealit360 I realize that the mere thought that a Zionist could be a terrorist, is difficult enough for you, but to think that a former Israeli PM could be a terrorist by definition is a reality you obviously will not accept. I completely understand. However, I will tell you that denial of factual events will only hurt your creditability in any honest debate.

Israel supports the historic revisionism of your peoples' past by the way.
lalilul3lo 10 months ago
@lalilul3lo I proudly participated in a US-led NATO operation to stop the genocide of Muslims in Bosnia. Do you think that baiting me about Israel's views regarding the Armenian genocide is going to get me to agree that they should be genocided?
At least the Muslim fundamentalists have an excuse. Anti-Semitism is enshrined in their holy book, and xenophobic violence is practically a sacrament for them. But the Leftists simply use Muslim anti-Semitism to forward their own anti-US agenda.
DrCruel 10 months ago
@DrCruel The government of Turkey emphatically denies the existence of the Armenian genocide, despite overwhelming evidence, arguing that it was a 'war'. Israel supports its ally's stance, lobbying with Turkey to prevent the genocide being mentioned in US textbooks. Isn't it the biggest insult yet that the state of Israel, built on the memory of the Holocaust, denies the genocide of other peoples because of political capital?
I bet your butchered ancestors are spinning in their mass graves.
lalilul3lo 10 months ago

SatchmoSings 1 year ago
You can make explosives in a simple workshop -- hell, I've made gunpowder in my driveway (my dad wouldn't let me make it in the house). However, at your suggestion, I've done some research, and I've learned that not only do these rockets have explosive warheads, I know what kind of explosives are used. Urea nitrate (which is rather easy to make) and scavenged TNT are the most common payloads.
Basically, you're full of shit, just like I said before.
OneEyedJack1970 1 year ago
bais and zionist rachel maddow distort the truth and when she mentioned the palestinian rockets, she showed a footage of israeli buildings destroyed but in fact they were palestinian buildings 02:40, she could not find any footage of destroyed israeli buildings because the rockets do not have explosive heads and can only kill you if they land on you unlike the weapons the israelis use like white phosphorous and other illegal weapons mostly supplied by america.

SatchmoSings 1 year ago
@SatchmoSings It's more to do with the injustice of ethnic cleaning of the arab population of Palestine, which Zionists have written out of history, it's about American complicity in the expulsion, transfer and murder of hundreds of thousands of defenseless Arabs; its more to do with the propagation of Zionist myths of David Vs Goliath when Jewish forces have always had greater military and political strength. Typical to bring out the old canard of anti-Semitim in the face of an Arab holocaust.
huntertristan 1 year ago
@huntertristan I made a mistake; this conflict has killed 51,000 since 1950 of which 35,000 are Arab dead; if you remove the 20,000 Arabs Israel killed in the Six Day War that means that Israel has killed 15,000 Arabs since 1950.
15,000 dead Arabs (including the 1956 and 1973 wars) is hardly a "Holocaust."
Additionally, Arab nations have killed a lot more of their own people than Israel has.
Your claims clearly show you to be an anti-Semite.
SatchmoSings 1 year ago
@SatchmoSings If we follow this logic, the 3000 killed on 9/11 are nothing to raise a fuss about. Surely not worth the death of at least 600,000 in Iraq, say.
28g34ajbsd 1 year ago
@28g34ajbsd You aren't too bright; killing 3000 in one stroke and Arabs and other Muslims killing 600,000 Iraqis in the course of a year or two is simply not the same thing as killing less than a person a day over 62 years.
SatchmoSings 1 year ago
@huntertristan Perhaps you could show me, in great detail, something to "Google" so I can read, in great detail, the history of the Arabs of Palestine.
Something tells me that should such a site exist, it would be on the level of those doing the most niche graduate work.
SatchmoSings 1 year ago
@SatchmoSings Why not check out tom segev, benny morris, ilan pappe and the various other (new) Israel scholars who have written extensively about the myths which have propagated the zionist state. Let me guess what's next? They are self-hating jews? How predictable.
huntertristan 1 year ago
@huntertristan You have called Israel killing 36,000 Arabs since 1950 a "Holocaust;" if you take out the 20,000 Arab dead from The Six Day War, this number then falls to 16,000 which also includes the wars of 1956 and 1973.
Now you want me to check out "revisionist" historians; I'm sure you enjoy them and won't quote more legitimate sources.
Thank you for changing the subject on how 36,000 dead Arabs since 1950 constitutes a "Holocaust;" that was only to be expected.
SatchmoSings 1 year ago
@SatchmoSings "the expulsion, transfer and murder of hundreds of thousands of defenseless Arabs" - that is what i wrote... no need to take it out of context.
as for arabs killing arabs - please illustrate this ten million figure (sources?) and also show me which dictators and regimes out of that figure were installed and supported the the West. Where any from the so-called moderate regimes ie: pro washington.
Revisionist? yeah whatever. Benny Morris is hardly an Arabist.
huntertristan 1 year ago
@huntertristan I didn't say Arabs killing Arabs, moron; get the quote right.
Indeed, your having to twist even basic stuff around such as my very own quotes shows exactly what an intellectual turd you are; this does not at all come as a surprise, by the way.
A fine example of Muslim-on-Muslim violence would be the Iran-Iraq war; please tell me how Ayatollah Khomeni was a proxy of Washington DC, you moron.

SatchmoSings 1 year ago

Understand?

28g34ajbsd 1 year ago
@Jasob767 They don't want ethnic cleansing, because, in fact, Arabs also have semitic roots, along with Israelis. The thing is, the want them to keep out of their land, which makes sense because a fueling factor that made Israel want their land in the first place was religion, and both parties have different religious views, which causes a huge conflict for all.
NonPointRulz101 1 year ago
This situation will not have a political solution as it is a religious not political problem. It will not stop because the USA funds Israel to the tune of $8,000,000 a day with another 2-3 in support / services.

CE750 1 year ago
@CE750 Maddow is not Jewish, and there's nothing wrong with being a lesbian or a feminist. As for defending Israel, there's a blog called Pandagon which consists primarily of feminist bloggers, one of whom is a lesbian, and all of them condemned what Israel did when it attacked Gaza a couple of years ago. I don't know what makes you think that lesbians and feminists are all bloodthirsty ultra-Zionists...not even all Jews defend what Israel does.
Trustme77 1 year ago
@Trustme77 I stand corrected on her religion, or lack there of.. however there IS something wrong with being Lesbian and Feminist, that part I don't back away from, and Israel is very pro both.. Liberal bastion of the Middle East, which is why liberals love it so much.. add to this the Evangelical nut jobs that have an entire theology built on it, and it's no wonder the poor Palestinians (Christians or Muslim) haven't got a prayer...
CE750 1 year ago
@CE750 I'm a liberal and I think Israel goes too far. Real liberals are anti-war and against the killing of civilians like I am; anybody who tells you different is full of shit.
Trustme77 1 year ago
@Trustme77 fair enough... drive on.
CE750 1 year ago
@Trustme77 Defending Israel on certain occassions, condemning Hamas, and saying Israel has a right to exist is not equivalent to "bloodthirsty ultra-Zionist" anymore than saying Palestinians deserve their own State is supporting terrorism, except to fanatic ideologues. But, I would suspect, and hope, that feminists and gays would look more kindly on a country, Israel, that gives gays rights rather than the Arab world where homosexuality is punished with the death penalty.
B21983 1 year ago

Then they can defend their borders.
badger5079 1 year ago
@badger5079 I support totally what you say - but Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005 and took out every single Jewish settler - it didn't get peace & quiet, it got 8000 missiles and Hamas does not accept UN Resolution 242 or the UN Resolutions in 1947 and they believe Israel should be wiped out and replaced with an Islamic State. It takes two to tango, one party in this relationship is really not interested.
B21983 1 year ago
@B21983
When Isral withdrew its settlers from Gaza, it merely allowed them a free hand to try to crush the people there by more incursions and the inhuman siege which they could not have done while there were Jews there. Sure, Hamas is responsible for attacking Israeli towns with rockets but Israel also is responsible for killing many civilians in its inhuman military assaults upon centres of civilian population while excusing themselves of blame by saying that Hamas uses human shields.
badger5079 1 year ago
@badger5079 Why is the seige just Israeli? Doesn't Gaza border Egypt? The Egyptians, fellow Arabs, have closed their borders just like Israel has done. I havent seen any protests against Egypt for some reason. The blockade is misguided and ineffective and has done nothing to weaken Hamas' grip on Gaza, but this is hardly a unilateral Israeli action, nor does it seem to be an excuse to sock it to innocent Palestinians since even Egypt clearly has concerns about an Islamist state on their border.
B21983 1 year ago
@B21983
Egypt is run by a corrupt dictatorship which is the second largest recipient of U.S. foreign aid after Israel so it does what the U.S. wants regarding the Palestinians.
badger5079 1 year ago
@badger5079 Egypt is a corrupt dictatorship no doubt, but it hardly just does whatever the US wants (I didnt know the US was a steadfast supporter of a Gaza blockade). Egypt does have its own concerns and calculations - it didnt support the Iraq war, even though the US launched it - Egypt also has legitimate concerns about a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood controlling the Gaza Strip. Either way its hardly fair to say Israel is THE one laying seige, since Egypt too limits what goes in and out.

There would be no conflict if Israel obeyed international law. The withdrawal from Gaza only allowed the IDF to kill civilians without fear of killing any Jewish settlers.
badger5079 1 year ago
@badger5079 Israel certainly must follow international law, but I remind you that international law and UN SC Resolutions recognize the right of Israel, and every other UN-member State, to exist and Art. 51 allows for self-defense (with limits). This is something which Hamas rejects and neither Israel, nor anyone else, is under any obligation to commit suicide. That Hamas are bad people doesnt exonerate all of Israel's faults, but its not quite as simple as you put it above.
B21983 1 year ago
@B21983
Hamas does not recognise the legitimacy of the state of Israel. That is different to accepting the reality of a Jewish state. The IRA did not accept the legitimacy of British occupation in Ireland but this did not prevent them from negotiating in the peace process.
