  • Hayley have beautifull voice, but... this song is definettely not for her... She have to high voice.

Only Elaine Paige is real Grizabella.

  • My personal favorite. Some say Hayley was 13 when she done this. That makes me appreciate it even more, this isn't an easy song for someone so young.

    Very nice voice!

  • She has a greate voice but I like Epica's version better.

  • Very lovely , her lovely voice puts me to slumber as If I was listening to a singing angel and the meaning of the song makes me cry

  • Was this from one of her earlier albums like Walking In the Air or Hayley Westenra? :)

  • Very clear, accessible voice :) Rather like Emmy Rossum

  • does anyone know what key Hayley's singing this in? I know it's not in the original key because in the original score, the line "Every streetlamp seems to beat a fatalistic warning. Someone mutters and the streetlamp gutters and soon it will be morning" consists of low notes, not high notes.

  • @SakuraMochiKitty Well, it is in the original key of B-flat at the beginning, but the low notes are quite low for most female singers, so one way to combat or bypass the problem is to change notes within the key altogether (like what Jackie Evancho attempted). What Hayley did was to sing the low notes ("Every street lamp seems to beat a fatalistic warning") at octave upwards, before returning to normal.

  • thanks for posting :)

  • my god....the voice of an angel..

  • when i listened 'vivo per lai' featuring bocelli, i really changed my mind and said, 'i really prefer her than martha sanchez....

  • Wow!... Beautiful... beautiful...amazing!...

  • Well done Hayley you sound great !! I performed this when I was 10 and loved it, and was told that i did it well.

  • Great performance

  • my aunt sang this on broadway!

  • her voice is purrrrrfect

  • This is spectacular!

  • Now that Hayley is in her 20's, she should record this song again. I'm pretty sure that a decade has made a lot of difference to how she'd sing it now.

She sang this really well, but I do believe it takes someone who's longing back to their younger/better days to truly express this song. Now that she's all grown up and a real adult, I'm sure she can convey emotions of wishing her innocent youth back into this song much better.

  • And I bring more to the point.

Beautiful as the song is, it also evokes in me a poem of TS Elliot - Rhapsody on a Windy Night - Just wonderful. Both are pearls.

  • I think a comment more is just like another drop of water on the ocean. She is stunning, she is brightness, peacefullness, harmony, beauty, poetry... what else. New Zealand must be proud of such a morsel of Grace on this battered Planet.

  • i love Hayley Westenra

  • love this song, love her voice, but i wish she wouldn't switch octaves all the time.

but seeing she's 13, i'll give her a break. i wish i could sing like this at 13.

  • Hayley was only 13 when she recorded Memory.

  • WOW!

  • Superb...

  • Hayley, Simone and Tessa ....

    Godesses !!!

  • Could you please send this song to me? i would appreciate it soo much. I can message you my email.

  • Hmm... Sounds like a very very Young Hayley, Now, her voice is a little bit different, more Sweet xD, I think.

A Great Version =) But I agree with Reggyrail, I prefer another songs for Her. And, I think that the greatest version of "Memory" is from Epica, the mezzo-soprano voice of the vocalist, sounds Great with the Song.

  • I think Hayley is superb and I love this song, but....(Bet this gets me a few thumbs down) I don't think its right for her. She hasn't got the age to put feeling and meaning into it. Its technically superb but there is just no heart. Elaine Page has this one sown up for me.

  • the age doesn't matter all the time i agree that it doesn't suit her but i am 15 i sang this and i know i put feeling in it, as soon as possible i will put me singing this up on youtube so you can see how age does not matter

  • I admire your spirit Bookloverholic and look forward to you posting your version but I have to disagree. I'm not suggesting age matters "all the time" but I do think if you are to sing about memories it is more credible if you are old enough to have accumulated enough to give the song gravitas. The lyrics refer to the processes of aging so someone in the bloom of youth can't sell that convincingly. Nothing personal!

  • age doesn't determine memory though experience can hit you at any agein any form i have seen more in my 15 years then many have seen in there whole life including death, hate and love. you just have to see life to be able to sing this song

  • I guess we will have to agree to disagree! I accept that experience is not directly limited to age, although I would argue that your ability to interpret that experience does evolve over time. The crux for me here though is that the words themselves clearly relate to someone looking back to their younger days. I suspect we won't reach an agreement somehow.

  • I sang memory last year when I was 10 and I put alot of feeling into, please take a look and let me know what you think. thank you.

  • Hi Keeley,

Thanks for inviting me to watch your performance of Memory. I think you have real talent, and you did indeed put a lot into your rendition. I really enjoyed it.

I do maintain though that it can only be truly convincing if sung by someone who has lived long enough to be able to look back and reflect. That is not an inditement of your performance, just a matter of personal credibility for a role. You are a young lady with a real future ahead of you I reckon.

  • I LOVE THIS!

  • YAY I love this song so much. YAY thanks for uploading. So beautiful. luv it. Going in my favorites.

  • lol i was thinking the same thing! :)
