Actually, if you can put your own retardedness aside and play the game past it's very steep learning ramp, even casual gamers will love GodHand. It's that awesome.
And for those who believe it's got a steep learning ramp, go play Dwarf Fortress. That game's got a learning spike.
Cool! You reviewed one of T H E best games ever made nearly a year ago now!
A decade later, and this will be a review of what will STILL be one of T H E best games ever! ^_^
No, seriously though, Great review. I really enjoyed it. It's perhaps unfortunate that GodHand IS one of the most underappreciated games ever made, however, I kinda like it that way. For one thing, I think we were damn lucky in the 'West' to get a full blown localised release of this game! Maybe there IS a 'God' after all?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's got a 3 out of 10 becuase this game is shallow, repetative and....BORING! It's no different than any other game in this genre. And personally, i think giving it a 3 was still giving it too much credit
@BloodRawEngine89 Oh yes i do. And this isn't it. Silent Hill, Alan Wake, Okami. And just in case you want a Beat'am Up with depth, give Bayonetta a try. It's a game you can't breeze through by pressing SQUARE 74623746 times, Like God Hand. :] How bout that? Hmm?
@BrandonGotBack89 Proof of my point. God Hand's depth isn't from several dozen three-hit combos that only a fraction are ever used--that's not real depth, that's just convoluted. Hell, proof you've not played it is just as prevalent if you think anything in God Hand can be regarded as a breeze that only requres the square button. God Hand is a game that takes REAL skill at the height of its play, skill to apply what's most effective for those 74623746 squares. That's adaptation, and is far more-
-adherent to what real skill is, unlike picking few from several dozen otherwise needless ones, case in point, Bayonetta, or Ninja Gaiden. If you're not able to utilize that kind of system based on your own skill and application of said skill, then like I said, you have no grasp on what REAL depth is in the beat-em-up genre. ANd for the record, Bayonetta's a hack-n-slash action game, if you don't acknowledge those distinctions, then that's more proof of your ignorance on what depth really means.
@BrandonGotBack89 No, I think it's tough and deep because I actually played it, thus have the actual grounds to my claims instead of groundlessly trolling, also having played the game for the sake of the challenge since I, and anyone else with the right of mind to have played this game, am clealy more pro-skilled than said groundless troll whose only probable experience in REAL action games is from looking up the last high-rated thing that wasn't the latest multiplayer FPS cash-in.
@BrandonGotBack89 the game was a parody of the genre itself and some character of capcom, the combat system is deep and controls are tight, and the most important thing about this type of games is coz is fun and not taking anything to serious, if u cant enjoy a game like this ok but saying is bad is just ur bad taste for gaming
Nice review dude. I get tired of seeing footage of people who don't look like they've having fun with the game - it's nice to see you using a variety of moves and playing around, that's what this game is about. I have found that after initiating the pummel moves with O, you can then press any button rapidly, not just O, which makes it easier, and doesn't cause so much damage to your finger!
BTW the radar also helps when people are throwing things at you. You can tell where they are coming from and when the will land with your back turned to them!
Speaking of....when you fight a demon you can beat them easier with your back to them! Since they move so fast your translucent trick wont work. You must use the radar to tell when they are close to counter them!
The only useless thing in this game is some of the moves!
The REAL Cons are...The alt costume choices after you beat the game...kinda awkward that a straight man has to wear...THAT! A gi is cool but...it's just a gi.
The fact that spamming a certain kick is the key to victory sometimes.
Some of the Roulette wheel attacks will are not taken seriously just because their damage is not has high as another one with the highest damage!
Some attacks push the opponent away after a hit, not really a good idea when you want them near you! Game doesnt say it.
@sngoku I see what you mean. When I was a new player I had no clue about what was best until I saw a couple of videos of the game being played to see chain yanker was seriously effective for building tension. I don't know if I like using those tricks alot. Every hack n' slash game seems to have a bug nowadays. Bayonetta's Killgore bug can get you combos of 30 million for instance and kill every regular enemy in the game within 2 rounds.
Con--The color of the tension bar was red and orange NOT Yellow! Adjust your TV settings!
Radar IS necessary especially if you get to Lvl3 or Die when the enemies swarm you. You need to know if you can keep attacking one person or watch your back! Which the radar does a fine job of!
Voice acting? Thats picky! Considering how cheezy the game is supposed to be!
Environmental detail...really? Ur looking at the detail's while 5 guys are trying to pummel you?
@sngoku I'm usually aware of what's behind me anyway, there's still transparent effects done when opponents come at you from behind. The voice acting I really think could've been improved in some parts which were focused more on empathy then humor. Olivia's speech about Azel for instance felt like she was just reading it off a sheet. Every game is fought in an environment so you can be somewhat immersed. Between battles I'm looking at little details. In HalfLife2 I love looking at the citadel.
@MrSnuggleduck you realize that God Hand & HL2 are on two different types of systems and games right? Are you gonna compare God Hand to Final Fantasy 13 next?
And just because YOU dont like it doesnt mean someone else wont or shouldnt!
You should ONLY comment about the backgrounds IF they hinder the overall experience. Gltiches, invisible walls, obstruction.
But i have to say i suck at beat 'em ups so I always play on easy, but it is still fun as hell and still a bit challenging, but never frustrating. I guess the IGN reviewer should've played on easy as well....
Great review. However there is one gripe I have about it. The game is not $10! If it were then I would be more thoroughly pleased with my paying price. Instead I paid...just joking. I paid about that much for it actually. This is a great review. I think that I will be keeping God Hand. And I can see why it was so difficult to find a used copy in stores. No one is selling it back. D: Good luck to those who want one. :)
@NeskBasic I actually got one brand new off the shelves for $20 AU. But the thing which amazed me about it was the case was in absolute perfect condition. Like no one had ever even handled it before.
@MrSnuggleduck I know. Same with mine as well. Usually when I get games from online purchases (Game Stop surprisingly), there is often something wrong with its presentation like a scratch or the case is messed up. I was more than pleased to receive it in the condition that I got it in. That made it better.
After seing a walkthrough of this game I said that if I find this game, I'll get a ps2 just for it.
I'm not sure if I will find it though.....maybe if I look in the big basket with cheap/old games......I hope.....I'll have to dig my way through a lot of games....
Whoever gave this a 3/10 is a very sad, sad human being.. Obviously after a bit controversy - I hate people like that.. Just do your damn job - and yes, years later, he will never be forgiven for that! XD
Great video, I've been thinking about getting the game for a while now. I was a loyal, exclusive IGN reader until maybe last year, and then I learned that people were speaking well of God Hand. I love Okami and Viewtiful Joe, so I'm definitely going to check it out now. If you like difficulty, I hope you've gotten around to Devil May Cry 3. Hardest game I've ever played on the right setting.
Would you believe I haven't played any DMC yet? Yeah pretty bad I know. Should I start with the first and work my way up? Alot of people tell me the 2nd game wasn't really good
Devil May Cry 3 is actually a prequel, so I would start with 3. It has more weapons and "styles" than DMC 1 which makes the gameplay far better, but DMC has some amazing music and atmospheric environments that many consider the best in the series. I skipped DMC2, heard it was bad. DMC4 has the most refined and fun gameplay and a new character, but some of the level designs are horrible, you fight every boss 3 times and you play all 10 levels again (in reverse order) with Dante.
Same environments, usually with some minor alteration so you have to navigate the level differently, but yes. The boss fights are still awesome, and the final fight is pretty epic.
Hey, I just drove 50 miles out of my way to pick up God Hand at my "local" gamestop, played the first couple hours and I'm loving it!
@MrSnuggleduck Don't even bother with 2. People want to forget it existed. DMC1 was pretty good, but DMC3 is the best in the series hands down. You really owe it to yourself to play it.
I Had to laff at the faces he pulls while playing the game lol. I when to get this game a few weeks back and in was in store but couldnt be found behind the till!! So am going to give it another try tomorrow and i wiil let you know if i get the dam game (fingers crossed!)
You know IGN actually put God Hand in one of their top 100 lists, sometime later, contradicting their review. Idiots!
