there were lots of complaints but no basic ideas on how to fix them. and just so i'm not a hypocrite... if you want the numbers to mean something suggest an idea for what a programmer could possibly put in there. like internal temperature and display the system heat, or one could program the cpu/memory usage in there as well. but what i'm trying to say is that you shouldn't just say this is crap unless you say how it could be better.
I have no interest in a review of the software flaws. That's not what this video was so I wasn't interested in projecting programming ideas onto the developers; only to point out it's limitations on this system. I tried to make what was available at the time work with the Datalux which in itself was limited. It wasn't practical. At this point, the only viable option for a functional LCARS IMO would be a stand alone OS.
This program is shareware. You can buy a "developer software package" from 3M for about 1000 bucks which comes with a touch screen and an open source software developer kit. This screen/computer cost me between 100 and 200 bucks off ebay. I have just the Datalux touch screens as well.
Those range from 50 to 500 bucks depending. Search for touchscreen on ebay. You will come across a lot. Make sure you do your homework in regards to the types of screens available. (ie capasitive, resistive, infra-red, or industrial "SAW".
LCARS x32 works very well from what I hear. I haven't tried it because it wouldn't be as fun without a touchscreen (too poor to buy one at the moment, lol). But anyway, i've heard many great reviews about LCARS x32.
That sounds like the same touchware driver available on the Datalux website. BTW, you may want to call them. The techs there at Datalux have been very helpful and friendly when I have spoken to them in the past.
I've only tried to get one of the screens to work with the touchware driver and didn't have any trouble but that was with an older computer running on Windows ME.
Did you disable the mouse driver before installing the touchware?
Try the tech support. They have always been friendly and helpful to me in the past. Many times you get to speak with the people who designed the device you need help with.
Thanks for help anyways. I may go the tech support route, might be expensive call from the UK though, I guess email worth a try.
Good news though, I set up an old laptop with win98 and using the supplied driver the touch screen does function. So at least I now know one is not flogging a dead donkey. If win98 runs the memorymap navigation and ham radio software I require then I would be happy at that (though win98 takes a lot of tolerating :D )
any experience of the older datalux LMV10 screens? Have two of these screens now and having no luck what so ever getting the touch control to work under XP (or win98).

No I didn't disable mouse driver. Do you have URL for other drivers
stonefisk 3 years ago
No. The drivers should be available on the Datalux website under drivers and on the 3M website.

I own three. Are you using the 3M driver?
ejayerik 3 years ago
The driver I have is "Universal Pointer Device Driver" with "3M TOUCH SYSTEMS, SC3, SERIAL" selected as the device.
