  • Never reference reddit as some sort of positive example, it instantly undermines your argument. Also what is so wrong about requiring people to at least prove they are who they say are at the voting booth? Isn't it a good thing to stop all the dead people from voting? If you're really so worried about "a couple bucks", I'm sure government bureaucracy would be more than willing to create another program and make them "free" for the poorest of Americans.

  • Running water isn't free. Most people have to pay for it.

  • I don't think people are stupid, but I'd say the average persons intellect is probably over run by complexions. Our brains are way over worked as compared to say 100 years ago. I'd say people may seem stupid because people are too focused on the complexities that we often miss the simple things like common sense. But then again people my age weren't born with the internet and cell phones weren't common place. I can't wait to see how my children and grand children fare with it all in the future

  • thumbs up if you recognized from the clock, the movie took more than one day to finish it...

  • All you American haters are just hatin' cuz we are the superpower. KISS MY ASS. And you brits are still pissed about the revolutionary war. DERP

  • @rancor77jmg this just sums up you're stupidity

WHY THE FUCK would brits be pissed at something that happened long ago, besides most brits (like myself) know that if it wasn't for us you wouldn't even be Americans, you would be Spaniards, that is exhibit A on why Americans are stupid. The fact that you said kiss my ass is exhibit B.Exhibit C is DERP.

I'm not saying Britain is that much better I'm just saying assholes like you make the U.S a bad place.

People like you don't deserve a keyboard!

  • I personally find it hard to really believe the American IQ is that high since 90% of the comments I will sift through on any given video will be poorly misspelled and thus difficult to read. I don't think so when I meet people outside per se, but on the internet, it's almost as if it's cool to lose your ability to think or write properly.

  • Americans are stupid: FACT

  • Thumbs up if you are Canadian

  • @brmurph28 ima thumbs down cause im not...

  • @pogobat "A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine." - Thomas Jefferson

America is not a democracy, nor do I ever hope it to be. Ask the average American what their views are on the most basic of political issues, and they'll either be one of the (approximately) 50% of U.S. citizens that don't vote, or recite what they've heard on FOX New/CNN/NBC/etc., and believe it to be absolute truth.

  • Before I moved from Las Vegas, NV to Belpre, OH, they announced on a very reputable AM radio station that the average IQ of Nevadans (or it may have been Las Vegans, it was back in 2010) was...........drumroll.......................................ELEVEN!!!! Yes, eleven. 11. I'm pretty sure that legally retarded is around 50-60. So, I guess they're working their way up from dead people. Of the people I know, they are very smart, but I don't like hanging out with idiots, so....get my point.

  • CP6NJA

  • people dont have a life

  • Man! does anyone know what an American is?!? Let me tell you. Someone born in the continent of America! Like people from Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, etc.... Fuck even Canada! Get it right you idiots! Maybe some U.S citizens maybe stupid. An American does not always come from the U.S.

  • Mr.Brown do u know programming, sorry for the question but u just look like the type of person that knows C++ :P

  • I'm an American, and I agree that most Americans are stupid, but not all of us are. Just the majority

  • refreshingly optimistic

  • are you the same dan brown who writes all those books?please respond with a comment.

  • @noname365427chakkatr no, he isn't

  • i am indian and think americans be brainless stupid idiots

  • if us stupid they ain't knw how 2 drive skyline batter than ASSian fuck...

  • when bitches ask ya'll stupid?.... dumbass batter say ''yes bitches, m stupid -.- ''

  • I see Dan took a little break. 3:46

  • The answer is Yes

  • Americans are stupid and that's generally known. all those unnecessary questions that in the first place don't even make sense and are most of the time not related to the same subject.

  • @gamersAproductions I forgot to mention something, americans ask more questions instead of giving actual answers.

  • @YBI4 Saying "American's are stupid." is as outrageously stereotypical and judgemental as saying all Russians are angry, the French are weak, and all Black people steal TVs. I live in America and yes, I know many stupid people and they annoy me to no end. Oh yeah, you're one of them.

  • @YBI4 what an egregiously ignorant thing to say.

  • The main arguments against direct democracy are that majorities tend to be protective of the staus quo at the expense of minority civil rights. Had the South left it to public referendum to end segregation, we might still be waiting in some areas of the country. Same is true for abortion and gay rights today, as we've seen when these issues are brought before voters. There is also the danger that a majority religious view would embed in law religious doctrine.

  • most americans are really dumb... i dont know how many i've said hi to and said i was from canada and they look at me and ask if it's a northen state.... atleast know your own country D=

  • @thewolfdancers You mean continent. And I don't know who you've been speaking to but maybe you should stay away from them because they likely have Down Syndrome. I'm an American and I don't know a single person who doesn't know what Canada is. I personally not only know about Canada, but I know several people who live there, I know the names of all the provinces, and I know that I don't understand the ones from Quebec =D

  • Yes

  • I don't think it's that Americans are stupid, it's that humans can be easily manipulated into believing a stupid opinion. 2012 doomsday for example, or that recent doomsday notice. If your friend says to vote for someone or a law, it's highly likely you will vote for it, thinking "well, my friend thinks it's good, so it has to be a good law".

  • Sex, Drugs n' rock and Roll!! Fuk ya

  • @btavv Type in "Ron Paul" in the little white box at the top of the Youtube page, then press the little magnifying glass.

  • Are politicians stupid? Yes. Americans? mehh like 50%

  • Looking at you.. I say YES

  • Yes

  • Yes. RP2012

  • YES!!!!!!!

  • The majority must be because you keep voting for assholes and ignoring Ron Paul.

  • @RoseHanamori

Thank "god" for you Rose :) I hope I didn´t offend you in any way. . .

  • dude im liking the way you think so far. this is the second vid that ive seen from you. keep it up man

  • Just remember, none of us are as stupid as all of us.

  • Americans are ALL sooooo smart in Hollywood movies. They know things before even thinking about it! ;) Most of them, read without reading, know without knowing, hear without hearing and sense without sensing. GODS all together!!! They´re fast at the keyboard too, writing faster than the computer can register. I mean, come on, Americans are just faster than the light! ;) My humble theory is, it's because of their faith in JEEEEEESUUUUUUUS, praise god!!!

  • @armelix73

    Your theory is flawed, because:

    1. that had nothing to do with faith, its just movies being fake (as they should be)

    2. America has over 30,000 cults, (which idk if its true but is the largest number of cults in the world...)

  • Well... It's quite hard to vote on something you don't understand. Therefore, fuck democracy, leave the voting to the people who have a proper education.

  • I've read that Athenian democracy actually included a representative body chosen AT RANDOM from among the populace, among whose duties was voting to banish people. Banishment was a pretty bad penalty at the time, but it also served the purpose of ensuring that person was never appointed to the representative body. What if our legislature were randomly chosen every few years, and among its duties could ban individuals from serving. Imagine out commitment to education if ANYONE could be chosen.

  • бля голос противный у него...

  • @jumpingENOT не хочешь - не слушай

  • @rubicscube007 не указывай мне

  • Point: "Internet will be as readily available as running water is today."

    Counter point: Africa.

Now, that's just a problem with that being worldwide.

HOWEVER. In just America, many families can't afford much of anything, much less a computer. Guess what? Poverty is alive and well. I know places where there ISN'T running water. Slums, the outskirts of poor cities. It's a bigger problem than anyone thinks.

That's because it's been pushed under the rug. A dirty little secret. Think about that.

  • Are Americans STUPID?

    Yes

  • @Ratoscruvy :) not all of them but i have a classmate who lived in usa for 1 year and she thinks that NY city is a state and manhaten is a city of it.

  • Obviously they are. The put Obama in office.

  • @IntergalacticFetus99 who was supposed to be in office? how don't you run for president and lets see how you do

  • @syddiallo Someone who could do something positive for this country.

  • @IntergalacticFetus99 And you're saying McCain would have been better? All of the same things would have happened except faster and worse

  • Stop SOPA No more Monopolio...internet is Free no Censorship...

  • I think you are right about the potential that the internet has for making "collective decisions", more imporantly i think collective media will fall and give rise to individuals reporting information on there own. democracy and mob rule is not the answer! voluntaryism is, which is why im voting for ron paul

  • Yes, and I'm American.

  • A person is reasonable, thoughtful and intelligent. People are panicky, bigoted idiots.

  • I like the idea of direct democracy

  • @zamm0rock YAY! thats a good thing! (that the internet has taken over the world)

  • It's not that people are just stupid. It's that they don't understand the issues their voting on. You can expect the government to educate themselves on that but the general population won't. And that will lead to them making some really bad choices. There.

  • THE INTERNET HAS TAKEN OVER THE WORLD!

  • All Americans are stupid? Hell no! It doesn't matter where you live but the individual themselves. There is ignorance in America but there is also ignorance in the UK and all over the world. I am sick an tired of people thinking that because I am an American and I'm not an ignorant gullible idiot as other countries portray us as. So why don't you who think Americans are all idiots get your heads out of your asses and realize that we are not the only country with stupidity. And honestly England

  • @ClassicPie most uf america are stupid and it's to stupid america is ruled by dude's that belive still in a fairytale called god

  • Yes

  • WHITE TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yeh there everywhere about 83% of the videos on YouTube are uploaded by Americans I was told! fucking heck

  • Yes

  • Yes

  • Yes.

  • ur uber cute ..............................

  • Yes

  • I just read that some 50 percent of americans believe that a "rapture" will occur in their life-time, and that a "Jesus" will "come back"...so you have a large problem with stupidity in America:)

  • @winterstellar If those numbers are true, of course. They may not be, because apparently it is very common in America to lie for some reason when answering survey questions. For instance: 80 percent say that they go to church every sunday, but that doesn't add up at all, it doesn't happen for real, but many seem to believe that that is the "best answer" or "right answer" in a survey and thus lie about it: )

  • Yes.

  • Are Americans stupid? From Britian's view.... yeah. It's the whole crazy hardline Christian thing you've got going on. I know this is the stereotype, but when your patriotism and religious faith blinds you to truth or sensible thinking, you are stupid.

  • @pilchard96

Meh. It really only accounts for some of the extremely southern parts of the United States. I have this unfortunate problem where live there daily and it's no stereotype here. It's really that bad. I have a friend that spent her whole lunch break telling me about the rapture and how everyone will disappear from their beds and such. Other various things too, such as that 'God hates homosexuals' thing. But most of the country is pretty sensible. Just not here.

  • @NekiiFTW Hmm I know of the whole deep south Bible belt thing, but if you don't mind me saying (and I think to watch this video you have to be fairly open minded) there's lots of things that strike a Liberal Briton as strange. The UK is so far from perfect it hurts, but the US....

  • Direct Democracy only?No(2 wolves and a sheep deciding what is for dinner?)The sheep loses :( Direct democracy could work if it folows certin guidlines.1 no law could violate the constitution and bill of rights. it would also need to be seperated into levels 1 city 2 county province or parish 3 state 4 national. Divided that way it would be easier to manage local issues and for example okloman wouldnt be responsible for following a federal law that was intended to solve a problem in say Alaska.

  • Dan, you never cease to put me in a state of awe... It's like you're hi-jacking my brain and distributing my thoughts back to me. Always Impressive

  • @GuitarMannnnnn i soo agree. well im stoned thats probably why but his voice is nice he is cute AND intelligent :D

  • Just to add to this. I had an American girl in my year 11 English class, and she seemed far from stupid. However, when reading and analysing "Mao's Last Dancer" (good book), I couldn't help but pick up something she said while the class was discussing as a group. It was along the lines of "we were all brought up to hate and fear communism." I just have to say, that weather that is true or not in the US, it is far from true here. Nobody, and I mean nobody cares about communism where I'm from.

  • Nationalism was made by the world leaders for one reason only, to divide the people of the world and keep them wrapped in petty blame games while the leaders of nations controlled excessive wealth and resources. Think, governments are not ruled by the citizens, they are ruled by elite groups, elite owners, presidents, prime ministers etc. When a country goes to war, who dies? The pawns (soldiers, neighbors) not the government. The citizens of the world are being used. Educate yourselves people.

  • @GHTVextreme it's because they voted these people in that have caused this that being the Tea Party and 2) people live beyond their means and when stuff like this happens they have to blame someone and not take accountability!

  • Nice covering up, Dan!

  • The basic problem is greed. It's not good on either end (the rich keeping it all and the poor wanting something they didn't earn). We have a great system which allows us all to succeed. The problem with occupy wall street is that it is a never ending cycle because anytime anyone succeeds they want to squash it by giving it to people that didn't earn it.So there would be no motivation to succeed on your own because you will get your share; even if you are lazy. So a pure democracy won't work.

  • His hair keeps changing

  • can you be the next president please???

  • Yes I would say at least 80% of Americans are stupid and the reason why is all they think about is themselves!

  • @SunnySide2000 I don't see how stupidity = selfishness. Being selfish is how our ancestors survived, it's pretty much instinct. However, if you are in fact defining stupidity as selfishness, tell me, if you had lost your job, house, etc. or were in a situation like that at ALL, would you think about the general masses or the well-being of your family/self first? I would personally put the immediate well-being of my family/self first.

  • you = yumm <3

  • quick answer....yes.

  • watch the clock in the background.

  • @MiniMegaMario Haha

  • US GOVT will Murder, Imprison or Suicide the slave if they object to oppression. Look at all protests - Police Thugs beating unarmed slaves - FACT.

  • All voting should be done on paper.

  • Im american

  • 'Know what they're doing'... yeah, ok

  • I really don't know right to left dammit!!

  • You explanation of direct democracy is another reason I unsubscribed. Most people are politically ignorant and it is a terrible idea to have people that no very little about something, control that something in a large scale. You wouldn't ask a shoe salesman about brain surgery would you?

  • With the Dan 3.0 comment. This would be the same thing... there were maybe thousands of ppl watching this series, if we were to do this in government, however, there would be millions of ppl and a branch of government couldnt hold and carry out the requests of the whole contry. its basically the D3PO comment only on a much larger scale

  • Yes. Whats with all the cuts in the editing and face in the camera stuff? You can't concentrate on someone just talking?

  • HECK! Some people in my state STILL don't have indoor plumbing! How can we, the people of our state, get their opinions heard?

  • Direct Democracy? Well it is harder to buy off 300 million people than to buy off 3 people. There are a lot of stupid people, but they can already vote. Sadly they elect other stupid people. This could be a good idea. The constitution would have to be tweaked.

  • stupide et fatiguant !!

    en plus !!

  • Pogobat, have you met the Vlogbrothers?

  • dan uses reddit.... try funnyjunk

  • @pogobat This is a very serious question. Have you ever thought of going to the field of politics, i mean professionally

  • Hmmm..my response to that?? You sound very smart..Mostly because i don't like politics..it usually makes me angry...understandably I believe.

  • Scratch the 'almost'. If someone knows how to convince politicians in Canada to implement this poll-style information for legislators... let me know.

  • Put simply - a direct poll-style feed of public wants and thoughts would be incredibly more valuable than the entire lobbying system as currently established. Consider it the "informed legislator" legislation. Beyond this - I almost want to ask for help on how to suggest this!

And yes, if I could be king for a day, I would most certainly implement the elimination of all lobbying besides public aggregated opinion such as this suggestion in both my country and the states.

    Sincerely,

    A Canadian

  • To follow my comment, perfection is always sought first with big ideas like fundamentally changing how a government works.

I would suggest a humble and simple claim. Apply a system similar to how a direct democracy when simply feeds information to representatives poll-style. Make the final results publicly available. Then, if say a rep was to ignore 99% of his constituents or vote nay on legislation they all wanted - it's on record for ever. It's also the end of his career, which seems fair.

  • Interesting. Stupidity is not really the issue, though at first it seems this way. More accurately, ignorance is the issue. As a whole, certain views and legislation may be taken by the American nation that are not conducive to the nation as a whole - ie reluctance to ever tax and jumping at social programs.

That said, it wouldn't be worse than now! Oddly enough many of us (myself included) often fail to acknowledge something should be implemented when it is "better than now", not perfect.

  • they are really stupid believe me

  • You said that maybe one day Internet would be free for all. In fact it is, but the bills you pay are for the Internet Service Provider for making the link between the Internet and you. But if you are abble to "plug" yourself to the Internet by your own, then Internet is free =D. Greetings from France ;)

  • A direct democracy is better attuned to a small group, such as a tribe or a village (where everyone can vote) In a country as large as the United States this would be extremely difficult even with the internet. Every citizen would need to vote on every issue; and even if it did work, it is possible for it to cause some problems of race and prejudice. The majority would trump the minority. It's true that the system right now is imperfect, but I can't see how a direct democracy would work.

  • We're not stupid, we're just lazy.

  • The common man's a fool. But of course the common man doesn't know.

  • 90 percent of everything is shit. Sturgeon's Law

  • some of the stuff he says i dont understand at all but i still enjoy those moments too

  • 99% of these comments answer the question. lol

  • Your a Dick

  • @Hikemojo you're*

  • People are too easy swayed by miss evidence this would need a system of presenting the facts to people before things are voted on... trusting media is wrong

  • Click the orange button! go! do it!

  • I approve of people who disagree with the majorities, because it shows they think and don't just jump onto the band wagon.

Too many people today just jump onto the band wagon.

  • @Thegreatestgtafanboy fuck off

  • 4:04, About dumb legislation not going anywhere, you are aware that Congress recently declared the tomato sauce on pizza a vegetable?

When, might I add, tomatoes are fruits?

  • I completely agree with you, they just need to make sure it isn't capable of being trolled.

  • YAY e6

  • i like your say on democracy.

  • i would have to agree with dan on this one. i think that the "stupid" people would not even vote anyway. i would estimate that we would have the same turnout as we do now in our current representative democracy. the current system doesnt seem to be working as well as it should, and i believe that is because the representatives are mostly motivated by self interest, and are inhibited by partisanship. i would love to be able to have a say in my government, and its bills in a more direct manner.

  • Fudge AHHHHHHHHHHH

  • Thank you so much for seriously talking about this. I know that's been said before but keep it up, please--despite the comment conversations that should be overlooked. This, in my opinion, is how these kinds of subjects should be approached, rationally, aware of bias opinions and in a near-calm fashion. Again, thank you, and--for argument's sake--of the aspects you talked about, I agree. :)

  • As someone who likes Reddit, the possibility of a direct democracy, and turtles, naturally I agree with your idea here.

It could use more turtles, however. :^/

  • Love the Fuse stuff! I had no idea you were doing this kind of thing! Keep us updated on this stuff!

  • Not stupid perhaps... but ignorant and apathetic, those are much larger problems. Direct Democracy would end up being a small ruling class of the motivated or organized. Large ideas would of course get lots of attention and run wonderfully but the small decisions of governance would have trouble obtaining anything like a reasonable quorum.

  • @mith59 I strongly contest the idea that large ideas would be easy to run through direct democracy.for a number of reasons: The goals and priorities of government are subjective and subject to personal preference, There is no obvious way of accomplishing these goals efficiently.

As an alternative to direct democracy might I suggest that everyone votes for the things they'd like to get accomplished by volunteering their own time and money. This way is much less likely to cause disputes

  • @confusedirishman My point was just that large ideas get attention and public discussion required for functioning democracy, small ideas could be dominated by small groups that don't represent the majority.

  • I understand what you mean about having a small class controlling everything, but we already have this. In a direct democracy, the small ruling class would be ruled by motivation; at this time the ruling class is controlled by money.

  • @mith59 because a large group of motivated organized people concerned about the future of the country is a poor idea..

  • I agree with what you said but what I don't understand is why you think it is a bad thing to let the "motivated or organized" make the decisions.

  • im aussie

and americans are all DUMB CUNTS!

  • @anthandpete911 ... We wouldn't have the internet or television without America. Just throwing that out there.

  • The thing is, if you try, let's say, a technocracy or something like that, it just gets really easy for the people in charge to perpetuate their power and fall into corruption. And if you say, you can't vote unless you're educated and smart. Well again that's hard, because you're concentrating the power on one part of the population and so those people will make choices that benefit mostly their part.

  • "the greatest argument against democracy is a 5 minute conversation with an average voter". ~~Churchill.

But that's not exactly "direct" democracy related. It's actually just democracy related. Democracy surged with the "american" dream and it sort of globalized after WWII. It brought peace and prosperity so people just went with it. Ofc, "it's better than all else political systems that tried" like monarchy and dictatorship but it works better with smarter people.

  • @JonhnyGrave108 Hence the importance of reforming public education, not just throwing money and legislation at it. An uneducated public is the most dangerous thing in a democracy, and we've become a culture where being educated or any degree of intellectual seems to be looked at with fear and mistrust by the general populace (ie anyone who doesn't live on the coasts/in a blue state).

  • Apart from the fact that you support Obama, I completely agree with you on just about anything you discuss in your videos! Keep up the great job

  • it's not that people are stupid, it's just that many don't pay too much attention to politics. If they don't know what's going on and we make them vote anyway, it can potentially lead to some rather poor decisions.

  • the whole world is stupid. its them against us.

  • Thumbs up if you stare at the clock during the video.

  • you're like a cross between bo burnham and a robot

  • Democracy is good in an ideal world where all the elected people have the same amount of resources, always speak the truth and provide GOOD and BAD information about there goals. In our world ( and I mean the whole world ) the one who has more "money", knows how to talk and how to hide her or his BAD side are the winners in the elections. the one who deceive people to believe in promises she or he didn't make. May I ask a question: in the real world, Who is controlling these resources???
