Saw her at the Apollo a few ti,mes. I heard the song on the Crosby show but noticed no credit was given to her. Iwrote many times but never received a reply.
Another reason to thank Bill Cosby and the Cosby Show... i'm positive i got my immense appreciation for jazz and blues, both old and new, from that show.
Some rock critics estimate this record as Big Maybelle's peak. Not me.
I do like it, and all of of her 1950s' "Okeh" -label work. But as time rolls by, it's her 1960's rock covers (e.g. "96 Tears" and "Black is Black") that move me.
Three reasons why: superior songs, her matchless voice, and the warm and early organ-based groove that her voice befitted.
i'm proud to say i knew who Big Maybelle was waay before the Cosby Show but I absolutely appreciate what Mr. Cosby did by introducing an unsung hero to an international audience. btw - the best part of the song is cut off - -- Big Maybelle had this 'signature squeal' if i may use that phrase - that cannot be imitated. God Bless her soul.
I heard this song on the cosby show when I was a little girl and got sooo excited! My aunt was like thats your great grandmother girl! It kinda makes me sad because I never knew her!
@Ebrown814 oh my god, is she really your great grandmother. Let me tell when we heard this on Cosby, everybody went running to the store to get her music. If she really is who you say she is you should be so, so proud.
This song is so wonderful! Real slow jams without the raunchy lyrics. Giving people a reason to appreciate each other and being patient with the love.
I concur w/ everyone's comment... Thanks to the Cosby Show i was introduced to this song.... NO ONE i knew knew who she was... but THANKS be to GOD!!!!
@railwalker1 i heard this on spongebob square pants show. it was the funny episode where that silly spongebob had to get a job to pay for his wart medicine.
Why did you cut it out before it's over?
