People better wake up and start believing there own eyes and ears, stop second guessing out of laziness. We do have the power and the numbers to put all this corruption and lies to bed,, permanately!! and the powers that be fucking know it.
@visionfirst1970 there r connections to the company Nalco the Corexit company to Lehman Brothers & Goldman Sachs financially in investments. Follow the money and the related companies and friends. We don't have a prayer is right.
I liked being able to stay up-to-date on what was going on, but it just seemed like the more and more you saw come out of the well, the sicker and sicker a person would get. I say we pull the Obama/government routine and blame someone else that sounds completely ridiculous to blame. I point the finger at Richard Nixon. Everyone else gets blamed, so why not?
lol...use your brain people. Any photpgrapher with a couple hundred dollar camera in the world can take a picture at 65 feet. Don't think 65 feets is that much. It's literally nothing. That's not even as long as the land my house is built on. It's a joke. If you can't take a picture at 65 feet let alone 100 feet you need help...and should find another profession.
@magicyte I know you commented a week ago, but really, you lose a LOT of control and details of your pictures at that distance. But the main focus is on the higher ups lying, and restricting our freedom.
@asdfgoogle I know about that aspect...but it really doesn't intrude that much. Restricting freedom is all dependant on the wants of who the actions are affecting. I would never condone someone taking a picture of my neighbourhood if I was in it...yet taking public pictures without the persons consent seems to be perfectly fine. Too many grey areas are what really screw us around. What about the rights of those who don't want to be public that aren't in a public field of work?
@asdfgoogle Just saying it's a huge grey area of who people have a right to take pictures of. I'd imagine it would be no different than guys working on city roads not wanting to be constantly intruded on by photographers...especially when the photographer doesn't have permission to take the photograph. I don't even know what "Invasion of privacy" even covers anymore.
@magicyte Oh, I gotcha. I agree too. It goes to youtube videos too. People filming their skits or whatever in public. Personally, I can't say I would really care too much, but some people are really afraid of being on film, TV, youtube, etc.
The tragedy here is the suffering of the animals. If you want to see a real tragedy take a look at what an American company Union Carbide did to the people of Bhopal. Thousands of men women and children dead and still suffering to this day. With pathetic ammounts of compensation and no ongoing help. How about covering that CNN
Do you think President Obama might have been worried about being criticized over this catastrophe? I feel sorry for him. I think his feelings are hurt over his ratings dropping. He did mention that in his dinner with Jay Leno. Poor guy.
Folks, how would you feel if you were criticized in public? Don't you think that would hurt your ego? No wonder Obama's blocking the press from this failure.
Full 1 hour documentary chronicling the BP oil spill including the prior knowledge, the stock that was sold days and weeks before, the media blackout, the poisons used to 'clean' the spill, the lethal methane levels, the poisoned crops, the Monsanto-Corexit connection, the Goldman Sachs/BP/Federal Government connection, the mass evacuations, bioremediation---spread the word!
@Joewut67 Now please be careful about insulting our president in public. What if he sees this? Don't you think this name-calling might be upsetting to him? I don't want him to get upset and block the press from anymore public catastrophes. We need to know the news. Please don't scare the president away. The nation needs him right now.
We need to boycott every bp gas station in the U.S.A. Do you really think the british would have allowed this mess to go on for this long if it was cuased by the U.S. in their waters and on their shores.
Well hello all you left wing nuts. Lets see, you vote in Obama ( the Fabian Socialist) and now complain that America is becoming a police state where CNN can't even report the news.......Go figure. Here's a tip, get your guns, lock and load, call your nearest Senator and demand that Obama be impeached and forced to resign. If this process fails, do what George Washington did 235 years ago.......shoot first and ask questions later.
I'm just wondering how much BP has paid Thad Allen so far. Any company/entity that makes $40 billion a year is basically omnipotent and can buy/sell anybody they want.
BaPhomet (BP) wants to go to outside…he wants to conquer the world finally…the gates of the hell open in Germany have it his disciples taken it already very far up, he himself must hide no more. You announce openly point…everything no problem !!!!!
This is the government (Obama's administration) trumping state governance. You don't have to believe it if you don't want to but that denial won't change the truth. BP doesn't have the authority to tell people how close or far away they can be. That's the GOVERNMENT. WHY should anyone be telling the states profoundly effected by what's happening how they should be cleaning it up? That's what GOVERNORS ARE FOR. The feds need to get OUT of the way and let the states workat cleaning up this mess!
@jparlett Really? We don't have a voice. We vote, which is a sham (Florida hand counted ballots? and gerrymandering? ), and then they do as they please. Most are blind or can't see past their own needs. Others are unhappy about the electorate's choices. Transparency is the issue. How accurate is the inventory of our resources? How bad is the spill? What direction is the wind blowing? Where is it carrying the toxic air? How much methane is in the air? Why are fish dying in lakes?
where did the "original american" go to ? original americans AND tv reporters would easily get thru this one .... USA has gone all slushy ... even whimpy ... BP's policy ? since when can an internation company administer international human rights ?
@aazsi, sorry this took so long, but, just so its clear, i wasnt talking about our presidents actually being terrorists, i was refering to the moronic, misguided sheep who said Obama was a terrorist. I hope you understand. And America is the greatest country on the face of the Earth, I wouldnt leave it for all the money in the world
old news for those who follow Anderson Cooper..OBAMA???? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT..You must be a republican bashing him for anything not even relevant to HIM!!!! I am down here on the coast..was at Pensacola and Gulfport and I, too,was very upset about this development..It had nothing to do with OBAMA!!!!!! investigate the GOVERNORS...such as that of MS who might not want anyone to see the damage and is very much vested in BP!!!!
The biggest point (and why this is such a big deal) is that this violates our 1st Amendment rights-Freedom of speech.
Besides asking what the administration is trying so hard to HIDE, I'd hope more people would ask WHEN "we the people" are going to remind washington that this is STILL the land of the FREE. FREE speech. If you understand - if you want to continue to live freely here-you better be making yourself heard.

' i have to admit I just love this topic and even more watching this whining fuck-stick cry foul. After all he and his anti-press has done since nine eleven to cheer lead every kind of treachery and tyranny by our dear leaders against the people of this country; watching this piece of shit bitch is so satisfying. Choke on it Anderson, and all of your little dogs too.'
One would think the far right wing would be happy about limiting the liberal media. But hey, anything to lodge complaints about the other side, right?
Welcome to the new Obama Amerika!! CNN's Anderson Cooper reporting on how the Obama administration has set new rules - new government policy - prohibiting reporters and the media from getting pictures of the oil spill damage to wildlife, etc. THIS IS CNN, NOT FOX NEWS. Transparency, transparency, transparency..... ? Hiding failure! Hiding incompetence!
CNN SHOULD stay 65 feet away from cleanup vessels. As a mariner that IS a SAFETY issue. Use your effing zoom lens and let the people work, jackass. You can responsibly cover the issue without crawling all over it.
BTW, the top commentor is right: This title is super misleading. It's not the obama administration, it's the Coast Guard. And it's not banning the press, it's banning everyone. Biiiiig difference.
I will say this: The Coast Guard SHOULD be working with the media to organize safe, supervised visits to the site of the spill. They should do their best to be utterly transparent. It matters for us to see it. But no matter how transparent the Coast Guard tries to be, reporters will still cry foul. Plenty of other successful, countries have far less transparency than we do. We're spoiled. We should stop throwing fits when someone tries to look after our safety.
There is a VERY big difference between censorship and safety. If the government were telling CNN to not show the photos of birds already taken, I would be outraged. That's not what's happening. The coast guard is doing the best they can to keep people safe. If a kid can’t cross a street alone, the parent tells them to wait for supervision to cross. Sure, the other side is close by. Sure, that’s where the candy store is. But someone here knows best, and it sure as hell ain’t the kid.
This is not a "safety" issue. If the concern were the safety of the media, we wouldn't have battlefield reports, gang war turf reports, etc. What this is about is the Obama admin trying to keep the destruction and devastation from the eyes of the electorate 110 days from a midterm. Too late!!! American's are fully aware of the abject failure of this admin's response. Nov 2nd can't get here fast enough.
I beg pardon... but where in this broadcast does Anderson mention Obama? This is being passed by the Coast Guard.
It takes a lot of training to be allowed to clean up a spill. The audobon society and national wildlife foundation are asking for volunteers with hazmat experience. Think about that- hazmat training to handle oiled birds. Also, it was fully reasonable to kick CNN out of the medical trailer. Doctor/Patient confidentiality still holds during an oil spill.
@Sangfroid101 The Coast Guard does not decide policy. That comes from the White House, namely Homeland Security and the Coast Guard follow the chain of command. .I live in South Louisiana. There is NO substantive clean up being done and the few dozen people [homeless; felons] who have been hired are not from the fishing communities who want the work and desperately need the work and who have already trained in hazmat. Audubon is more than happy to have oiled birds filmed--BP won't allow it.
Oh no! They're stopping the press from completely crawling up the cleaner's asses! 65 feet? Well they can now hide complete oil tankers without anybody knowing!
What is obama trying to hide? how can someone get into office, and when he opposes the rights of the constitution he swore to uphold. The freedom of speech. He spends so much of taxpayers money trying to "fix" the problem when he's creating the problem. He is not the great uniter he portrayed himself as being during the election campaign trail, he is instead the great divider as proven by the fact he will not speak out against these racist organizations both black and white racist organizations
"TYPICAL SOCIALIST DICTATOR ACTIONS .WELCOME TO THE MAACHINE."
Yep, those hyperlibs and their protection of corporate power! Did you listen to your copy of "Wish you were here" before typing up that intellectual tour de force ?
Yep, using federal power to protect corporations is clearly an action that only the "commie left " would come up with ! Yep, by the way that's called "sarcasm"
Anderson, take a chill pill. Jeez. It's just 65 friggin' feet. Stop trying to make the story about you. Stop acting like the host of a reality TV show.
@linholli I've been hearing those since the czars have taken over everything....before the spill. This is truely Nazi style leadership...forget that Obama is "black" He might not be all black but he is all Nazi in my book!
The Obama team certainly has a knack for information control, but weaselly Anderson Cooper is the last one I would trust to report it straight. Maybe the distance rule has some legitimacy for safety's sake.
The real story: Spend 10 years cutting the governments ability to respond to disasters and then complain about lack of resources. Reminds me of when everyone was up in arms about the salmonella outbreaks.
@ragincaucasian319 Obamas just a whore, a puppet like the rest of them...the last real President america had was a man named JFk ( and we all know how that story ended), the masters will let Obama talk about Kanye West being mean to Taylor Swift, Dance on the Ellen show too! but cleaning up the Gulf spill? No way jose.
This is just another example of "propagandah by omission" (stopping the people seeing the mess makes it easier for them to lie about "progress" to clean it up). Why should we trust anything BP, Obama's Admin, or even Allen when they've been lying to us from day one? This is well known now! Everything from the volume of oil leaving the pipe each day, to the effects of using dispersants!
This policy of "preach transparency, practise lies" is just plain evil!
65' is nothing. 100x zoom standard broadcast cameras can easily film wildlife at that distance. CNN is bent out of shape because they can't mess around with the booms and stomp through bird sanctuaries without permission? Meanwhile, if two boats are approaching each other at 25 mph with 65' distance, it would take slightly less than one second before they collide. That's not much, frankly. It's under 1/3rd the distance you're supposed to keep from divers, for example.
65 feet? You can't film at , most likely, under 65 feet of distance, with a standard 100x zoom camera?! You can't see birds on the coastline?! B.S. Sure you can. If you have two boats traveling in the same direction, 65 feet is a second or two. It's the distance you're supposed to keep between you and another car on the highway. This isn't some sort of Obama policy designed to prevent access. It's the local Coast Guard, putting out boating regulations to keep vessels, workers, and booms safe.
@Macedon51 So, the coast guard says that 65' of safety room is needed between vessels and booms without prior permission, and somehow that's a conspiracy? Tell you what.. assume that a press vessel and a recovery vessel are approaching each other head-on at a distance of 65 feet, with each traveling at 25 mph. How long will it take before the two vessels hit?
Answer: less than one second. (They could actually travel 73 feet between the two of them in one second.)

I've said over and over that this has been way blown up.
It's just a few dead animals. So what if the earth loses some species? We lose some seafood? Keep pumping, and make sure the oil that floated to the surface is used well.
From what he is saying. It sounds like they are just sanctioning the area. I'm a republican - but I try to be responsible. The title is very misleading compared to what is actually happening.
Awww such a shame, I've no doubt this order came down from the foot dragger in chump because this keeps giving him a black eye and really disrupts his golf time when the people of the country he supposedly governs actually want answers to his ineptitude. Bush got hell for days with Katrina and here the media have been covering the Obama backside for weeks on this catastrophe that will likely destroy miles of coastline in the end. Ponce in Chief
President Obama's commission examining the spill has no industry or local expertise, but is instead loaded with environmentalists loons searching for a justification to institute cap and trade energy taxes. Ineptitude. Incompetence. Inattention is consistent across the Gulf, but perhaps the best description came from a Louisiana official who told our team that the federal response was “stuck on stupid.” Indeed.
Full 1 hour documentary that shows everything about the BP Oil Spill, from prior knowledge and the stocks being sold by BP and Goldman Sachs weeks before the explosion, the poisons used to "clean" up the spill, the people getting sick the media blackout, the lethal methane levels, the mass evacuations of gulf states, bioremediation---Spread the word!
It is hysterical that a video title can have a person's name in it, report about a terrible disaster, and people's first thought is that this terrible disaster is directly the aforementioned person's fault.
Justification of one's beliefs is truly effortless.
I don't see how anything would be any different had they been able to film dying and dead marine life. Its not like its going to change the fact that the spill happened or the toll it took on the regoin.
@deciusbrutus People don't understand the magnitude of something like this until they see the results. And without knowledge and empathy, how do we move forward? The point is for the public to pressure the industry to drill safely and to pressure Congress to pass safety compliance laws. Corporations rely on public ignorance.
@CatalystDM That's a bit like saying, "ordering restaurants to not use sugar (for unknown reasons) is all right if the chefs have Splenda." It's not so much that one can't get by without it, it's that one must go without it at all.
This is how the media pulls opinions and biases. Notice that Anderson Cooper focuses on "not being able to see wildlife being affected by the oil spill within 65 feet" and not the "without permission." The rules are that the media cannot film any equipment or booms within 65 feet WITHOUT permission. If you're not careful, you too can be persuaded by even Anderson Cooper himself.
@hotshot123187 Why does the press have to have permission to report news? If there are boons need to be removed because they are soaked in oil this means clean up is last thing on their collective minds! Thats news that should be reported!
Our lifestyles demand that we pump more and more oil out of the Earth. So, we go deeper and deeper into the ocean. As long as we'll all pay for our DVD cases, and nylons, and gasoline, people will harvest that oil and sell it to us.
When a lot of us have to face that truth, we get angry. We demand that heads roll, but we refuse to take the blame ourselves. So we look for a scapegoat.
@johnsobey if anyone is to blame it's BP you fucking idiot. they didn't take the proper steps in case something like an blow oil cap would happen. Also Obama is a dumbass, he says BP will pay for what they did, but on the other hand he approved a contract for BP to supply the military with oil... fucking dumbass.
I really haven't seen Obama saying anything about this. In fact, since when Obama is the one that establish what can be charged as a felony or not? Stop blaming one man for what a company has done (since BP is the one to blame for not allowing Transocean do the proper repairs on the damaged safety system), for what the government has been allowing (the drilling) for years. You're all just a bunch of dumbfucks!
This is not set in black and white. Yes, this is absolutely asinine and incredibly imbecilic, but just because someone protects Obama doesn't mean that they protect this decision. There is no "you're with us or you're against us." I would also like to point out that it was the Bush administration that deregulated the oil industry, increasing exponentially the chances of this kind of thing happening. Fix what needs fixing, don't create petty arguments about on whose side so-and-so is on.
@Texcentric Yeah, cause I was watching the news earlier and couldn't help but think, you know what would make this oil spill disaster AWESOME? If we had MCCAIN for president, man he'd be flying overhead in a jet, BLOWING the oil out of the water, what a maverick he is, god bless america
@stickyktn At least McCain would have waved the Jones Act like Bush did during Katrina to allow foreign vessels & workers to assist in the Gulf. Obama wouldn't do it until last week because his union connections are more important than the environment. Obama waited until it was becoming a toxic issue. McCain also would have worked with Bobby Jindal to create sandbars to keep the oil from moving inland. Obama halted Jindal's efforts because he didn't want a Republican showing him up. Obama FAIL.
You are the enemy, but keep saying it over and over to convince people that you aren't. The guy that says "I don't care about the rules/regulations" in order just to get his picture taken in a favorable light is amazing.
At least we only have to put up with Obama for this term.... he's already proved he has neither the intelligence, nor qualifications to hold the office of President. Hope everyone who voted for him is happy... Obama could overturn this bullshit law... but will he? No. Freedom of press.
how quick we forget katrina under mr bush. this is not a problem with mr obama, but rather perhaps the US system as a whole. in the former it was its dislike with what it perceived as'peasants' and the latter as an ever-repeating 'keep the people ignorant' via controlled media thats been happening since the 50s. besides, its not a democracy but controlled capitalism.
Why do they think they can blind us with new regulations? But what do they care, it's only our lives impacted by all this. They hide behind a desk and smile for the camera. Will your children do the same when eating the biproducts of this disaster?

@magicyte I know you commented a week ago, but really, you lose a LOT of control and details of your pictures at that distance. But the main focus is on the higher ups lying, and restricting our freedom.
asdfgoogle 1 year ago
@asdfgoogle I know about that aspect...but it really doesn't intrude that much. Restricting freedom is all dependant on the wants of who the actions are affecting. I would never condone someone taking a picture of my neighbourhood if I was in it...yet taking public pictures without the persons consent seems to be perfectly fine. Too many grey areas are what really screw us around. What about the rights of those who don't want to be public that aren't in a public field of work?
magicyte 1 year ago
@magicyte I'm not quite sure what you're asking.
asdfgoogle 1 year ago
@asdfgoogle Just saying it's a huge grey area of who people have a right to take pictures of. I'd imagine it would be no different than guys working on city roads not wanting to be constantly intruded on by photographers...especially when the photographer doesn't have permission to take the photograph. I don't even know what "Invasion of privacy" even covers anymore.
magicyte 1 year ago
@magicyte Oh, I gotcha. I agree too. It goes to youtube videos too. People filming their skits or whatever in public. Personally, I can't say I would really care too much, but some people are really afraid of being on film, TV, youtube, etc.

BP doesn't have the authority to tell people how close or far away they can be. That's the GOVERNMENT. WHY should anyone be telling the states profoundly effected by what's happening how they should be cleaning it up? That's what GOVERNORS ARE FOR. BTW, the top commentor is right: This title is super misleading. It's not the obama administration, it's the Coast Guard. And it's not banning the press, it's banning everyone. Biiiiig difference.
Sangfroid101 1 year ago
I will say this: The Coast Guard SHOULD be working with the media to organize safe, supervised visits to the site of the spill. They should do their best to be utterly transparent. It matters for us to see it. But no matter how transparent the Coast Guard tries to be, reporters will still cry foul. Plenty of other successful, countries have far less transparency than we do. We're spoiled. We should stop throwing fits when someone tries to look after our safety.
Sangfroid101 1 year ago
There is a VERY big difference between censorship and safety. If the government were telling CNN to not show the photos of birds already taken, I would be outraged. That's not what's happening. The coast guard is doing the best they can to keep people safe. If a kid can’t cross a street alone, the parent tells them to wait for supervision to cross. Sure, the other side is close by. Sure, that’s where the candy store is. But someone here knows best, and it sure as hell ain’t the kid.
Sangfroid101 1 year ago
This is not a "safety" issue. If the concern were the safety of the media, we wouldn't have battlefield reports, gang war turf reports, etc. What this is about is the Obama admin trying to keep the destruction and devastation from the eyes of the electorate 110 days from a midterm. Too late!!! American's are fully aware of the abject failure of this admin's response. Nov 2nd can't get here fast enough.
56survivor 1 year ago
I beg pardon... but where in this broadcast does Anderson mention Obama? This is being passed by the Coast Guard.
It takes a lot of training to be allowed to clean up a spill. The audobon society and national wildlife foundation are asking for volunteers with hazmat experience. Think about that- hazmat training to handle oiled birds. Also, it was fully reasonable to kick CNN out of the medical trailer. Doctor/Patient confidentiality still holds during an oil spill.
Sangfroid101 1 year ago
@Sangfroid101 The Coast Guard does not decide policy. That comes from the White House, namely Homeland Security and the Coast Guard follow the chain of command. .I live in South Louisiana. There is NO substantive clean up being done and the few dozen people [homeless; felons] who have been hired are not from the fishing communities who want the work and desperately need the work and who have already trained in hazmat. Audubon is more than happy to have oiled birds filmed--BP won't allow it.

It's under 1/3rd the distance you're supposed to keep from divers, for example.
sleeplesseye 1 year ago

Don't let BP propaganda persuade you that "we all are to blame". F-you!

Love to hear the Obama fans defend this one. You fucking idiots who chanted "YES WE CAN, YES WE CAN" well seriously, go fuck yourselves.
