The guy didn't mention one of the cheapest secure systems: RFID receiver (with electromagnetic/solenoid lock [electric striker]) and tokens/cards as opposed to keys.

The price could be comparable to secure mechanical locks if premade, but if home-made, you can get it cheaper.
