  • Valentina, this movement belongs to the orchestra... the flute and clarinet melodies just take us to heaven... I'd have loved it more if you had transcribed the full score for the piano...

  • i don't know how anyone could press a dislike button for this wonderful artist. I like a lot of music including heavy rock and Techno but i also love this too

  • I always thought that the old Rachmaninoff recordings by Lazaar Berman had the best playing possible.i was wrong! Your solo version of his concertos ( and Beethoven's "Hammerklavier" too) are so well played and full of fire, soul and melancholy that I'm speechless!

I'm a composer guy and rarely find that performers (other than jazz players) really "get" the music they are playing. You play pieces as though you are improvising them!

    Thanks!

  • 정말 말로 표현할 수 없는 아름다움.......

  • It sounds as if the orchestra is there...such powerful music!

  • I am in love with her hands!

you don't even care, even notice, that there is no orchestra!

    Oh my God!

  • Wow. Thank you.

  • no. I am Gandalf the White!

  • Music i share with my love ..take me and you down a wooded path..to a fountain pool..we sit snd stare into dancing waters...and feel the love without saying..music does this..i love you ;)

  • 2nd Movement: at the very end of this movement is the heart-breaking moment. When the two melodies separate. . . .I miss that little oboe turn . . . . Now I realize that it's the violin part that I wait for.

  • I like her PJs. Looks very nice and comfortable. I usually play this romantic peice in my black speedo and a black bow tie. It really gets me in the mood and i experience minimal sliding on the paino bench. To each his/her own.

  • @yuccaken Just... BRILLIANT!

  • this is so good

    but so fast!

    but so good

    omg

  • This is my prefered Rachmaninoff´s peace for sure. I´ve been looking for Valentina´s best performance of Rachmaninoff and I came to find right exactly in this genious composition. She playes it so brilliantly as if she had herself composed this masterpiece. BRAVO !!!

  • did anyone realize theres the melody from the verse to "All by myself"?!?! HAHA!!

  • @chunghon86 You mean... "All By Myself" has a verse from this.. ;)

  • I'm trying to learn this (and this is the first concerto that I'm learning). Even though this is probably way above my level, does anyone have any tips for how I can attack this piece?

  • @JuJuandBob ol' fashion hard work and patience. For me, I usually attack the hardest section of a piece first, to get an idea of what it'll be like. Then I leave that for while, and attack all the easy parts.

  • @JuJuandBob Well certainly the hardest portion of this movement is the 2nd half of the movement, so if this is way above your level (you are far from alone) so I would NOT start in the middle, but build up your confidence by playing from beginning...otherwise you may burn out and give up. The first 10 pages are difficult but manageable, but after that you will find yourself challenged. lonewolf604 is right...patience and hard work. Do NOT give up...and seek help. This is hard stuff..very hard

  • Спасибо, Валентина! Это просто волшебно...

  • wow, without the orchestra you made it sound gorgeous Valentina!

  • No words could ever describe something as stunningly beautiful as this. Absolutely superb.

  • 1:10-1:25, I keep waiting on Celeine Dion belting out "ALLLLLL BYYYY MYSELFFFFF, DONT WANT TO BE ALLLLLL BYYYY MYSELF ANYMORE.

1:36-1:45, is the hook from the verses....when i was young, never needed anyone...

Anyway, im off back to bed.

  • I don't know which movement I love the most.

  • Camille

  • Thank you so very much for this! I love this piece and come close to crying because it hits my heart. So great to hear it as piano solo!

  • @GabonViper1981 I am always on the verge of tears when I hear this piece. It is so precious. Thanks. It's nice to know someone else feels the same way. Many blessings to you.

  • You are playing very well as i really like your way of playing piano, but this time I have to disagree with your tempo, because i think you played this a bit to fast, like andante whereas the sheet sais adagio.... =)

  • Good video for a represed gay like you :)

  • 4:00 - 4:25 , the best part. so beautiful...

  • I'm completely amazed by Valentina's piano play. This is an angel indeed.

  • Valentina, you're amazing. Thank you so much for letting us hear only piano part which is showing us another, deep dimension of 2nd movement from this piano concerto. I can't stop listen to this, so incredible, so ambiental! Thank you so much:) :) :)

  • Thanks very much for putting all three movements on here, just a joy to watch.

It would be ace to see the 3rd piano in the same way,but this is just fine, thanks again.

  • I love her playing, a true merging of composer and artist. To hear his music played so would be the highest complement for the composer, in my view.

  • Un bonheur total, merci!

  • It is a chance to listen to the piano alone, very interesting to know what it is without orchestra. Thank you for posting.

  • I love her......style...

  • A golden video to an incredibly beautiful music, a performance that always touches our heart...

I will say forever: Brava, Valentina!

no, I really love this piece of music and you play it very good. I once saw it being played in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Which is the best concert hall in the world...hehe..I'm Dutch. ;) (but great directors think like me)

  • She is one that comes along once in a lifetime.

  • Wonderfull, magic and outer space

  • Alcides, tell the world how these videos were created, it is so much more than the timeless music...

the visuals totally captivate, as well

    douglas

in this piece, i hear Queen...some composition they did later....

    so influenced by this music

    douglas

  • such an inspirational work, that makes me want to compose...

    Brava! Brava! Bravíssima!!!

  • david, excuse me, but she's the piano master of the future AND of the present!!!

  • Quantas pessoas, assim como eu, choram ao ouvir este movimento...

E o balé das suas mãos é maravilhoso, executado com rara sensibilidade...

    Obrigado, Valentina...

  • her playing is just undescrible.

She played as if the love of piano music is her lifelong commitment.

She's the piano master of the future!

  • i dont know which one i love more. rachmaninov for MAKING this beautiful music or her for playing it so beautifully :)

  • Talk about a left hand. This lefthand is out of this world unique. OFF THE HOOK!!!!! Wicked left hand!!!

  • This movement makes me feel incredibly sad...

  • This is amazing, I can listen to this over and over and not get bored, I wish I could play like that.

  • This is quite amazing. This piece is so well known, that I, too, hear the orchestra. Just love the delicate pianissimos and wonder how the recording engineers will place the mic to capture them. Such luscious dynamics tend to get lost in the concert hall (I have been in the nose-bleed seats too many times!), but here we can savor them all and I hope the recording captures them too.

  • God has blessed you very much. Your talents add beauty to the world. Thank you.

  • Thank god.. Valentina. I have been looking forward to hearing this beautiful piece for long time. You are goddess!

  • Unbelievable. NO ORCHESTRA, yet no matter how hard I try I can't stop hearing the orchestra due to Valentina's playing! UNREAL!

  • no it has nothing to do with her playing , it has to with the memory part in the human brain

  • I felt the same way with Prokofiev's 2nd concerto, 1st mvt, the cadenza. except in that one, there is no orchestra in the cadenza, but when played well, it has the illusion of an orchestra. it took me a while to actually realize this hahahahha

i love being able to have the opportunity to hear pieces like these played 'raw' without an orchestra. allows you to really appreciate some of the sounds "lost" behind an orchestra.

  • I'm so touched with this mov2... Can't hold the tears out of my eyes...

  • What a magnificent and overwhelming tribute to Rachmaninoff ! Valentina, your playing here -without orchestra- is totally rewarding, it takes me to HEAVEN.

  • This is very exposed for any pianist - a slow movement - even with Orchestra, but it remains utterly captivating (perhaps even more so) without orchestra when Val plays it like this. It takes me on an emotional tidal wave !

Valentina is to record this concerto in Sept in London with the LSO. A landmark.

At last, a great exponent - I can't wait to buy the recording and of course listen to the comments on UK Classic FM :)

  • Amazing!!!

  • Magnifico. My favorite part of this movement occurs at 5:24 . . .the release of tension that Rach has built up to that point . . .and then the section from 8:15 to 8:55 . . . .Valentina is marvelous at both points

  • In all honesty this has to be the most beautiful slow movement ever writen for any piano concerto. It is simply so sweet and beautiful. I always feel like crying whenever I hear this movement. In fact this was the first piano concerto that I ever heard a little kid and it made me want to play the piano even more.

  • Do you play piano?

  • I agree with you 100%

  • As spellbinding and breathtaking as I knew it would be! I am featuring this in vlog of my Channel for those who have

yet to discover the pre-eminent pianist

of our generation. ~Terry in SoFL

  • Valentina *************

    Wonderful performance !

    Antonio

  • simply lovely

  • : ( i wish i could play like that... Its almost scary how well she plays.

  • Beautifully played, its lovely to hear this played without the orchestra, and so well played!

    Nice pj's btw. :)

  • ...like a dream. *****!
