Valentina, this movement belongs to the orchestra... the flute and clarinet melodies just take us to heaven... I'd have loved it more if you had transcribed the full score for the piano...
i don't know how anyone could press a dislike button for this wonderful artist. I like a lot of music including heavy rock and Techno but i also love this too
I always thought that the old Rachmaninoff recordings by Lazaar Berman had the best playing possible.i was wrong! Your solo version of his concertos ( and Beethoven's "Hammerklavier" too) are so well played and full of fire, soul and melancholy that I'm speechless!
I'm a composer guy and rarely find that performers (other than jazz players) really "get" the music they are playing. You play pieces as though you are improvising them!
Music i share with my love ..take me and you down a wooded path..to a fountain pool..we sit snd stare into dancing waters...and feel the love without saying..music does this..i love you ;)
2nd Movement: at the very end of this movement is the heart-breaking moment. When the two melodies separate. . . .I miss that little oboe turn . . . . Now I realize that it's the violin part that I wait for.
Божественная песня в исполнении автора Эрика Кармена.Слушаю и не могу наслушаться.Только большой души человек мог придумать такое произведение.BEST!!!! (Russia).
I like her PJs. Looks very nice and comfortable. I usually play this romantic peice in my black speedo and a black bow tie. It really gets me in the mood and i experience minimal sliding on the paino bench. To each his/her own.
This is my prefered Rachmaninoff´s peace for sure. I´ve been looking for Valentina´s best performance of Rachmaninoff and I came to find right exactly in this genious composition. She playes it so brilliantly as if she had herself composed this masterpiece. BRAVO !!!
I'm trying to learn this (and this is the first concerto that I'm learning). Even though this is probably way above my level, does anyone have any tips for how I can attack this piece?
@JuJuandBob ol' fashion hard work and patience. For me, I usually attack the hardest section of a piece first, to get an idea of what it'll be like. Then I leave that for while, and attack all the easy parts.
@JuJuandBob Well certainly the hardest portion of this movement is the 2nd half of the movement, so if this is way above your level (you are far from alone) so I would NOT start in the middle, but build up your confidence by playing from beginning...otherwise you may burn out and give up. The first 10 pages are difficult but manageable, but after that you will find yourself challenged. lonewolf604 is right...patience and hard work. Do NOT give up...and seek help. This is hard stuff..very hard
@GabonViper1981 I am always on the verge of tears when I hear this piece. It is so precious. Thanks. It's nice to know someone else feels the same way. Many blessings to you.
You are playing very well as i really like your way of playing piano, but this time I have to disagree with your tempo, because i think you played this a bit to fast, like andante whereas the sheet sais adagio.... =)
Valentina, you're amazing. Thank you so much for letting us hear only piano part which is showing us another, deep dimension of 2nd movement from this piano concerto. I can't stop listen to this, so incredible, so ambiental! Thank you so much:) :) :)
no, I really love this piece of music and you play it very good. I once saw it being played in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Which is the best concert hall in the world...hehe..I'm Dutch. ;) (but great directors think like me)
This is quite amazing. This piece is so well known, that I, too, hear the orchestra. Just love the delicate pianissimos and wonder how the recording engineers will place the mic to capture them. Such luscious dynamics tend to get lost in the concert hall (I have been in the nose-bleed seats too many times!), but here we can savor them all and I hope the recording captures them too.
I felt the same way with Prokofiev's 2nd concerto, 1st mvt, the cadenza. except in that one, there is no orchestra in the cadenza, but when played well, it has the illusion of an orchestra. it took me a while to actually realize this hahahahha
i love being able to have the opportunity to hear pieces like these played 'raw' without an orchestra. allows you to really appreciate some of the sounds "lost" behind an orchestra.
What a magnificent and overwhelming tribute to Rachmaninoff ! Valentina, your playing here -without orchestra- is totally rewarding, it takes me to HEAVEN.
This is very exposed for any pianist - a slow movement - even with Orchestra, but it remains utterly captivating (perhaps even more so) without orchestra when Val plays it like this. It takes me on an emotional tidal wave !
Valentina is to record this concerto in Sept in London with the LSO. A landmark.
At last, a great exponent - I can't wait to buy the recording and of course listen to the comments on UK Classic FM :)
Magnifico. My favorite part of this movement occurs at 5:24 . . .the release of tension that Rach has built up to that point . . .and then the section from 8:15 to 8:55 . . . .Valentina is marvelous at both points
In all honesty this has to be the most beautiful slow movement ever writen for any piano concerto. It is simply so sweet and beautiful. I always feel like crying whenever I hear this movement. In fact this was the first piano concerto that I ever heard a little kid and it made me want to play the piano even more.
