I always wondered why nobody ever saw the possibility of taking Stan's songs and turning then into some type of theatrical musical? They all tell such great stories. The man has such an amazing talent.
One of the greatest musicians of all time. Can never be replaced, can never be duplicated, and cannot be denied as one of the best in the business. This is when the men and women in music had to make they're way, earn their spot. Now all you do is write a word on paper and get a record deal. Men like him, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, David Bowie. They had to pay they're way into success. And damn-it, they got what they deserved. I say Ridgway needs to be in the hall of fame.
@MishuTaste and facial effects :) :) Love this band! :) Miss the 80's the best rock, pop and metal groups ever! And do not forget the punk bands :) :P
@iediah I miss 80s music too. There was a new song out every week. Most of the pop songs were easy on the ears. I like to create playlists of new wave music. I might get an 80s heavy metal playlist set up...still working on it.
If someone was trying to track me down and murder me,I would want Ridgway having my back.He seems to be the perfect guy for those kinds of situations.
im a 15 year old boy surrounded people that listen to modern mainstream shit, this guy ceases to amaze me im so sick of the mainstream bullshit being played latley
Go chrismac94! I was lucky enough to see Stan Ridgway do an "in-store" performance at Gaslight Record Shop in Melbourne Australia in 86 or 87 - he can cut it live, as well as on record - keep searching out the good stuff - have you found Tom Waits' "Small Change" CD?
I've known about this song for over 20 years now... managed to get it on the "Best Of" CD.... This and Camouflage are really good, but Stormy Side Of Town is also really good...
THIS is a tune. I was always looking for this track, but all I knew was it was the one after camoflage...BUT...now I know its this one. Thanks poster...youve scratched a 20 odd year itch :)
Surely one of the best music videos I've ever seen. A brilliantly conceived and filmed tribute to film noir. Which is quite fitting, since the song itself is a tribute to film noir.
A rare case of a music video that actually fits the song it's done for, and not a bad shot in the whole production. Moody, evocative, intense, and thoroughly endearing.
Yes, alot of B-movies around 1986-88 used Stan Ridgway/Wall Of Voodoo-related music. In "Cutting Class", there are a couple songs by one of the guys from WOV, and well as CHUD II: Chud The Bud, which includes the same songs. "Night Of The Creeps" is a great movie, by the way!
Saw Wall of Voodoo when they supported the Clash. This was when Joe chose support acts like Futura 2000,Joe Ely, Holly & the Italians.
They came on stage in front of hundreds of London punks, Stan opened his mouth and spoke in his American accent
"This is going to get ugly" I thought
Sure enough, they were booed and gobbed off stage by the unappreciative audience after a couple of songs. The drummer dropped his jeans, bared his proud American ass and mooned the now cheering punks. CLASSIC.
@ScooterNerd He still perfoms in smaller venues...Hit him up on Myspace and he will send you his performance schedule...I have seen him at smaller clubs in LA and he is great!
Hey! Does anyone know where to get a copy of this album on CD? I burned out a vinyl copy and a cassette copy of this. I wonder if anyone knows of a video of Walkin Home Alone?
wow this is good..one of my favorites..to set the tone for life...everybody wants another piece of pie'...look @ us now in 2008..you can believe this came from Ridgway
By the way, does anyone know where the factory in this video (and pictured on the cover of the album) is located? I swear I've driven by that before. Please PM me with an answer if you know.
My words. I'm just glad I discovered Stan Ridgway and.. I saw him live in 1986. Stan could have been much more successful if he really liked but he's a way too intelligent and stubborn. I like him for that and his wonderful music
Man, missed your reply 4 months back. Only hit he ever really had in the UK was Camouflage. That kinda tarnished him really sadly as most folk didn't take him seriously. My next encounter was "Bing Can't Walk" on the movie "Slam Dance". Then two songs from Mosquitos got heavy playback on a local radio station and that was that. Hooked for life:) Mosquitos was one of the best albums of the last 20 years.
Every Ridgway song I have is on my iPod, and will remain so.
KrazyKat: "Music and film noir at its best. This song still sits in my ipod - always. Like a great movie you never saw. Or maybe did. Stan is a genius."
