Alex gave some idea (if it was him) of what he is doing at the moment on the Terzettby Mozart clip which I can no longer find. He said he doesn't sing at the moment but may continue later. He also defended himself against some nasty comments posted.
Vinco93, if you see him again, please let Alex know that his fans vastly outnumber the few who spread the rumors - they are not fans! I hope he returns to sing with the Tölzers as tenor or bass - whatever he is now, as he is a great musician!
Tell him that we follow his beautiful voice in America as well. When a treble voice breaks it is always a sad time but also a time to rejoice. His recordings are preserved and will be around for his children's children. He is one of our best! Thank him for sharing.
Robin and Alexander has two different vocies. Listen to them in Bach: Robin Schlotz, Alexander Lischke, Mattias Schkoderer. Or In terzett by mozart-
You cant compare this two boys vocies. There are good both of them Or was. Robin is as I heard a tenor now, and Alexander are focusing on his studies and left the chor about two years ago following his vociechanged
The boy is a child...this is quite remarkable. Let him sing with music but please somebody coach him on how to stand still and put some of that boyish energy back into the music.
Plus even professionals that i know sing with the music. Bach is complicated with the interplay between orchestra and soloist. All the boy choristers in the u.k who sing have music at the daily services in our cathedrals and also when did you see an orchestra perform without music. Not being sarcastic but I think he is doing a very good job.

If you go to a live concert do you see the lead singer reading from a piece of paper?
I know it's extra work but i recite from memory whenever i perform (spoken word) and i just think that when you see performers who read rather than recite it takes away any genuine emotion in their voice. All you see is the book.
My original post was ovbiously a joke because this lad is fantastic, but my point still stands: As good as his voice is it would sound better if he wasn't reading from a book.
O.K I take your point. However I play the organ a bit and it is a hell of a job to memorise Bach's Preludes and Fugues and play them accurately. depends on your ear and usical memory I suppose. I agree that many pianists I have seen ie pletnev play from memory and their perfomances are full of passion.
I have been at many classical conserts as Christmasoratorium, Matteuspassion, H-moll, Mozarts Grosse Messe in C-moll, Reqiuem, and so on, and almost every time the singers and the musicians and the conductor, and the choir have there notepapers with them
When a boy this age sings, does he get many breaks? I imagine most of the concerts are very long. It would be unfair on him if he doesn't get many breaks.
I think they are pretty well looked after. Benjamin Britten complained in in the 50's that the Vienna Boys Choir were exploited after they performed a piece he wrote for them. He heard it twice once at the beginning of a tour and at the end and at the end he was horrified. However don't think that is the case today. I have seen the choir house where the boys stay at Canterbury Cathedral here in the u.k and it has just been refitted at huge expense. The boys are really well looked after there.
Well, Benjamin Britten's choir pieces were a bit creepy, so I can understand ;)
Der Stress war immens. Die paar Thomaner die ich kenne fanden es jedoch toll, es hat sich ja gelohnt. Alexander Lische hat ein Leckekzem in dem Video, spricht für Nervösität-
I don't get why other people were "thumbs down on your comment" - I applaud your concern for the boys. However, the boys a trained carefully so that long concerts and rehearsals do not harm them. They, as far as we know, are quite well taken care of.
Zerlina12 do you know what is Alexander doing now since he is not at the choir? or maybe he is still there practising for rejoining it after the puberty? i mean is he seriously considering doing something related to singing in the future?
No, Im sorry I dont know anything about this boy. It would be fun to know what he is doing now, and what he is thinking about his singing in the future. Someone wrote somewhere on Youtube that Alexander was at least little bit interested to join the mans section in Tölzer kanebchoir when his vocie sattled. Biút I dont know. This I read for one year ago....Im sorry...
The silly notion that a concert soloist must perform without a score was not a tradition in Bach's day, Mozart's or even Beethoven's.
The tradition began with the piano virtuoso/composer Franz Liszt who played his own music in concerts without a score as part of the show he put on to dazzle his audience.
Other concert performers, eager to dazzle their own audiences, started to copy Liszt's dog and pony act of playing from memory.
Ok. I understand. I wasnt sarcastic. I was only saying what I thought was the reson why Alexander was using notes. Its only that. And its very often people have there notspaper when they are singing Bach or something else by other componist, the works are often three hours so...Im sorry if you thought I was sarcastic, it wasnt meant to be.
But Zerlina is right, nonetheless. 250 concerts a year that are each hours long. NOt to mention if he is going to be in an opera that year. Not to mention his age.
This comment is meant to be a reply to mattbod's comment on "The Niklaus Harnoncourt DVD ( Deutsche Grammophon) with the Tolzers perfoming the Christmas Oratorio" below; but my browser and/or YouTube has it a mind of its own.
Does Alexander appear in that? I've just ordered it. Radio 3 here in the UK rated it very highly. But, also from what I've seen here on YouTube, anything with Hamoncourt and the Tolzers is worth the investment!
No Alexander does not appear. This aria is sung by a young chap called Martin Gregor-Lutje who appears elsewhere on Youtube. He is excellent, a bit older tan Alex and with more power. You won't be disappointed:enjoy!
So do I. Alexander has a great gift. And he has a great ear for the classical music. We will jsut wait an see, and hope that someone who knows him tell him that he has many fans hear, and tell us what road of music he will take.
P.S It is a shame he has not continued singing after his voice broke. Many ex choristers make excellent adult singers if they continue. Andreas Scholl is a Bavarian like Alexander and is a world class Alto.
I think Alexander are going to sing after his voice changed and he get his new voice settled. I think it is too close still. I heard some people here on Youtube who has speak to him and he was telling them that he was at least Little interested to join the mans section when his new voice is good.
I hope he does Zerlina as he is obviously extremely talented and could make a career of singing in my opinion. I know that many have to experiment to see what range suits them best.
also, he is still only a teenaged boy! his interests may lie elsewhere, with regards to career. Though of course I certainly hope he keeps on singing, boys have a way of doing the unexpected...
These young German sopranos are amazing. It astonishes me to see one so young sing with such passion. Coming from England I am used to very good boy singers in our cathedral choirs. They are however much more restrained and less operatic than this.
I was privileged to hear the Thomanerchor Leipzig when they toured England a few years ago, I hope to see them again. A boys voice is trnasitory and therefore uniquely precious. Thanks for this.
So to continue on the last post, great melodies are all that's needed to sing anywhere. In fact, after listening to the tolzer boys, I often catch myself singing/humming the tunes afterwards...nothing different from singing the latest pop/rock hit song, really.
You don't need accompaniment. Most of the great operas have great melodies. Bach himself wrote great melodies - Bist du bei mir, for example. Plus, instrumental parts can always be hummed or imagined in our heads :D
Boys from other countries with that much training are equally as good (though perhaps in a different style). That said, I think because so much classical music does come from germany, it seeps more into general culture (as opposed to the US) and so the boys are more exposed to it that way, giving them a slight advantage. But I agree with Jairdan...every boy can sing well if trained well.
of course in the jungle it doesnt help with Bach. Bit art as music, theater and so on are something that brings happiness for many people in the world. I play theater on my free time and that give me very much. I listen to Bach in my stereo and that gives me joy.
I think Bach helps in the Jungle as well. I sing everywhere - while I'm walking to the bus, hiking...generally whenever I feel like it. When I went on a choir tour to china, someone started humming during a hike and by the end everyone was singing the song, and we all had a great time.... :D
Singing can give you a lot... In the famous boys choir schools you're part of a very long lasting tradition, sometimes reaching back into the middle ages. (Thomanerchor, Regensburger Domspatzen for a example) You're part of a community, who are devoted to the art. It can also give you self-esteem, singing is a special gift.
No, I disagree...Every -talented- boy who is TRAINED well, can develop such a singing voice. Germany has many good boys choir schools, which are often highly state supported, so even boys of familys with lower income, but singing ability can join. Culture is expensive. But there are a lot of good singers in other countrys. Not all are discovered and trained, some can't pay the tuition of an expensive boarding school...
Is it possible, anywhere here in the US, for boys to get such incredible musical training? How wonderful it is for these kids to learn so much, such great music at a young age!
There's also the St. Thomas Choir school in NY and the choir at the national Cathedral (washington D.C.).
In addition, there are many choirs not attached to a school that are absolutely marvelous. Indianapolis Children's Choir, Newark Boys Chorus are some.
I have a Christmasoratorium at home with Wiener Sägnerknaben with soloist, with harnocourt as the director. That one is too slow in the empi. And too heavy. I think this tempi at this movie is better.
I havent heard him singing in other videos. I think you cant feel the full impact of his voice because it was filmed from a distance maybe? I was wrong to say he hasnt any talent. That wasnt very nice. Fair play to him for having the guts to stand there amoungst all the adults and do what he does best.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
looks like a young boy reading a comic to me and desperately trying to avoid singing. He hasnt any musical talent. He should consider a playstation or an xbox.
Last I heard his voice hasn't changed yet. He's the last boy in his age group to still be singing soprano. Absolutely fantastic voice. I think in this one he's about 13, possibly 14.

American Boychoir School, Princeton, NJ. However, it is not in the same style as Tolzer boys are taught.

There's also the St. Thomas Choir school in NY and the choir at the national Cathedral (washington D.C.).
In addition, there are many choirs not attached to a school that are absolutely marvelous. Indianapolis Children's Choir, Newark Boys Chorus are some.

Fine performance ... I think. Its difficult to hear him. Where was the microphone? He sounds like he's in the next room in this recording.

I have a Christmasoratorium at home with Wiener Sägnerknaben with soloist, with harnocourt as the director. That one is too slow in the empi. And too heavy. I think this tempi at this movie is better.

mastud: Listen to the video with Alexander in Terzett by Mozart...there you can hear hm better then here

I havent heard him singing in other videos. I think you cant feel the full impact of his voice because it was filmed from a distance maybe? I was wrong to say he hasnt any talent. That wasnt very nice. Fair play to him for having the guts to stand there amoungst all the adults and do what he does best.

I'm deaf in one ear and his voice is beautiful, and I have heard him sing in other videos and think any choir would make him their lead soprano

This comment has received too many negative votes show
looks like a young boy reading a comic to me and desperately trying to avoid singing. He hasnt any musical talent. He should consider a playstation or an xbox.

He is 14 years old now. And his vocie is very close too get changed now. It could happend any day now
Zerlina12 5 years ago
Last I heard his voice hasn't changed yet. He's the last boy in his age group to still be singing soprano. Absolutely fantastic voice. I think in this one he's about 13, possibly 14.

Has he stop singing now? Because of the voicebreak?
