I'm thinking of buying an iphone 3g from ebay. If I did this or something similar with my iphone using a normal At&t contract phones sim card, would I be able to use the iphone for calling/texting/pic messages/etc, and be able to use wireless for my apps, etc without a data plan? @failurejosh It would work, but AT&T would detect that you are using an iPhone on a contract plan an automatically charge you for a data plan. I only recommend doing this with a GoPhone sim.

@failurejosh Unfortunately no, their systems will detect it. I know someone who goes into an AT&T store and argues with them every month that he is not using an iphone (he puts the sim card back in his old phone when he visits the store), he was able to get them to reverse the charges for a few months, but now they know hes using an iPhone and refuse to reverse anything anymore.

hey, i just got an Gophone plan with Samsung SGH-A177!

So I called At&t, to activated the phone. so, well i talked to representive and said to wait 4 days till the phone can be use.. and it came with the Lock Sim Card! i post it up a Video so can see what happends! and wondering if i can use the iphone 4G on GoPhone! or i have to buy a SIM card From ebay like those people do to make it easier to use.

@rickdog141 You might need to go into an AT&T store and say that you need a new sim for an old phone. Tell them that your current gophone sim isn't working and this is an AT&T old phone. (don't mention iPhone). The service will work with a jailbroken and unlocked iPhone, but the iPhone does not need to be jailbroken or unlocked for it to work as I demonstrated in this video by activating the iPhone with the goPhone sim.
