I used to be against the right to bear arms...i thought this would spark criminal activity..but then i look at country like Canada, which normal citizens cannot bear arms, yet i still see gun fights in downtown anyway...so obviously if a criminal wants to get a gun, they're gonna get it regardless of the law. Interestingly the right to bear arms goes beyond just the right to own weapons. To bear is to have them on your person, and hold them ready for action. All Americans have the moral right to bear the weapons of their choice on their person and use them in their own defense. This is a uniquely American right that distinguishes Americans from every other nation.
The "guns are used for crime" argument only fools the simple minded. It's actually a very powerful argument to repeal laws that prohibit or restrict the owning and carrying of firearms by the average law-abiding citizen. In today's society one or two guys with handguns can feel confident robbing a business with nearly any number of employees/customers present. This is because existing laws make the armed, law-abiding citizen a rarity.
