Clear cheap shot. Spearing, high-sticking, elbowing, kneeing, and headshots are not allowed. They are cheapshot penalties, not bodychecks.
You don't call some, and not others. If a player can be responsible for his stick, he can be responsible if he headshots someone, accidentally or not. Judging whether it is "intentional" is crazy ... you can't read people's minds. If the shoulder hits the head, it is a headshot.
Sticking an elbow into someone's head when you miss your check is elbowing. What's sad is that the fans can't tell the difference between a hard check and a cheap shot anymore. That's why the cheap shot artists have taken over the league.
Slow guys like Malone can't keep up, so they need to get the elbows or knees out to get a piece of the player they're covering. It's reflex, probably not intentional. I don't know if it deserves a suspension. It definitely deserves 5 minutes, though.
Right call by Shanny. We can't review every single hit to the head as intention to hurt. He tried to line him up, campoli bent over reaching for the puck, that's that. It's hockey. He wasn't trying to take his head off, Malone even laid off a bit. At the rate they're going they might as well just ban hitting..... I totally disagree with Shanahan for not suspending Malone. In this case, the bottom line for me is that Malone could have avoided the hit but didn't. Maybe a one game suspension would have been the most appropriate thing to do, since it is now a precedent for shoulder shots to the head when some one is leaning in and the hit could have been avoided but wasn't because "you knew you could get away with it."

Malone tucked his elbow in and skate right into him without targeting the head. The head changed position, looking down making himself vulnerable. If you can't see this guy leaning in at the last second and trying to give a shoulder hit, then you are not going to be able to see much of anything, when it comes to head hits. Malone came from the center of the ice. Campoli came from behind the net. Players skate straight up all the time? No Box Score anywhere. This will lead no where. It would have better to have erred on the side of safety.

What difference does it make whether the player's head is looking down or up, the player should not get hit in the head, period. Removing all resposibility on the part of the puck carrier will result in a no-hit version of the game. It will essentially become flag football. The puck carrier has to be partly responsible. No suspension as far as I'm concerned.

Of course, Campoli should've kept his head up, but according to NHL rules, the attacking player must be aware of the risks of the hit, and accidental or not. Malone was carless about the hit. If he hit campoli lower, then it would've been different.

Malone did the right thing and braced for the hit. He's leaning out of the hit! That explains the lift of the foot. He's sees the hit coming and braces, that's all.
No suspension... His feet are on the ice, he didn't lift his arm to elbow him, it was his shoulder that connected. Clear cheap shot. Spearing, high-sticking, elbowing, kneeing, and headshots are not allowed. They are cheapshot penalties, not bodychecks.
You don't call some, and not others. If a player can be responsible for his stick, he can be responsible if he headshots someone, accidentally or not. Judging whether it is "intentional" is crazy ... you can't read people's minds. If the shoulder hits the head, it is a headshot.

Sticking an elbow into someone's head when you miss your check is elbowing. What's sad is that the fans can't tell the difference between a hard check and a cheap shot anymore. That's why the cheap shot artists have taken over the league.
Slow guys like Malone can't keep up, so they need to get the elbows or knees out to get a piece of the player they're covering. It's reflex, probably not intentional. I don't know if it deserves a suspension. It definitely deserves 5 minutes, though.

Right call by Shanny. We can't review every single hit to the head as intention to hurt. He tried to line him up, campoli bent over reaching for the puck, that's that. It's hockey. He wasn't trying to take his head off, Malone even laid off a bit. At the rate they're going they might as well just ban hitting..... I totally disagree with Shanahan for not suspending Malone. In this case, the bottom line for me is that Malone could have avoided the hit but didn't. Maybe a one game suspension would have been the most appropriate thing to do, since it is now a precedent for shoulder shots to the head when some one is leaning in and the hit could have been avoided but wasn't because "you knew you could get away with it."

Malone tucked his elbow in and skate right into him without targeting the head. The head changed position, looking down making himself vulnerable. If you can't see this guy leaning in at the last second and trying to give a shoulder hit, then you are not going to be able to see much of anything, when it comes to head hits. Malone came from the center of the ice. Campoli came from behind the net. Players skate straight up all the time? No Box Score anywhere. This will lead no where. It would have better to have erred on the side of safety.

I don't understand some of you people saying the players put themselves in that position for getting hit or the player should have had his head up. What difference does it make whether the player's head is looking down or up, the player should not get hit in the head, period. If your not looking down, how else will you know where to move the puck. Should fine the players with these dirty at least 25% of their salary and at least 15 game suspension.

To the CUNTS (you got me right, CUNTS) defending malone, watch other sports to see how they apply rules and discipline sometimes. For instance in rugby, rules are pretty clear about when and where a player must not tackle an opponent (they don't give a flying fuck whether a player has his head down or not), and players are taught since a very young age about how to hit. It's an ART which is enforced by rules which are applied to the letter and I don't care if too many fuckers are suspended.

I agree with Shanahan, this was a very hard decission. But, once again, it was the wrong one. Malone isn't a dirty player, but he has to be aware that of where campolis head is. Of course, Campoli should've kept his head up, but according to NHL rules, the attacking player must be aware of the risks of the hit, and accidental or not. Malone was carless about the hit. If he hit campoli lower, then it would've been different.

No suspension... His feet are on the ice, he didn't lift his arm to elbow him, it was his shoulder that connected. Campoli was hunched over with head down, What happened before during game in regards to hits is irrelevant, i didn't watch game, just the hit. If campoli was not hunched over, there would be no discussion on whether this hit was clean or not since it would have connected to his chest.
No leap, no elbow, no raising of arms to try and make elbow, no suspension.

That hit was to the head but it was clear that it was not intentionally to the head. Any person who plays hockey knows not to skate up their zone with their head down and out stretched like that. And people are saying he jumped or his feet left the ground. Anyone who plays hockey knows that when you hit someone your bound to leave you feet a little, especially in a open ice hit. And he was lined up for the hit way before he over extended himself.

@DJK29 u wanna talk livelihood? how about you go to a factory and watch the peasants work 9-5 and in a week, make a fraction of what these kids make in a game? that factory produces REAL shit. it makes things we need to use and things for us to trade, so our economy can survive. these kids dress up and play games and make millions. plus i pay these kids every time i go to a game, or every time i turn on the game on the tv. so shut the fuck up and think before you type, you fucking halfwit.
